Kindergarten Learning Activities May Dear Students, Parents, and Families: Thank you for your continued efforts in helping your child learn and grow. We appreciate you now more than ever as you are becoming your child’s primary teacher. We are providing you with more resources to continue your education at home. Please remember that we recommend that your elementary child only spends up to one hour daily on the assigned activities. Lots of additional learning will take place in non-traditional activities. Most importantly, take time to play, explore, cook, and spend quality time with family. Please plan times for the following activities for your child. READING: Read for 20 minutes per day. Read to your child or have your child read to you. You may choose to do each for 10 minutes. Choose a reading response activity to do verbally or written. LIT ERACY: Mondays and Wednesdays will be literacy focused days. Watch and participate with the letter sounds lesson video. Use the Tongue Twister pages to read to your child and have them recite back. Practice word wall words in a variety of ways. See the enclosed “menu” for ideas. PARENTS: Encourage your young writer to… (see checklist on included writing paper)● Sound words out. Kindergarteners should write the sounds they hear. Their spelling may not be perfect

and that’s ok!● Stretch words out and hear many sounds.● Spell sight words correctly.● Write neatly, with spaces between words.● Take their time and add details to their pictures. Pictures help to tell the story too!

Writing Prompts to get your writer started…● See list of Writing Prompts. Choose a few a week and send to another classmate or family you miss.● Make a Mother’s Day Card and include a letter telling your mom how special she is.● Write letters to Nursing Homes; see attached list of places.● Draw and write about your family’s favorite game and directions to play it.● Write about what you love most about each family member. “Dad is special because……”● Begin a journal and write one sentence for each day. “Today I………..”● Write and continue a story with a family member, each writing a sentence: “Once upon a time…..● Take a photograph of something outside and write a story about why you chose that.
