Changes to Planning Room Next term at KPS our students will notice some changes to our Planning Room procedures. Most of our students rarely visit the Planning Room but for those who attend, the Planning Room is a safe place where students who have not complied with our school rules in the playground can reflect on their behaviour and, with the help of a teacher, formulate a plan to replace unhelpful/unsafe choices with more positive actions. At Kincumber Public School we have introduced an emotion-based problem solving strategy into our Planning Room procedures which will start being implemented in Term 4, 2010. The new planning strategy is called PEACE CAR. Together, students and Executive staff will work through the playground incident in a calm and reflective way, encouraging individual students to think helpfully about their choices. By reflecting on the incident the teacher will be able to encourage the student to identify whether their thoughts and feelings at the time were helpful or unhelpful. Ultimately, the goal of the Planning Room is to ensure that students make more helpful choices in the future, therefore reducing the likelihood of re-visiting the Planning Room. Should your child visit the Planning Room for a behaviour-related incident they will be required to work through a Peace Car planning sheet. They will need to identify the problem they were faced with and the emotion they felt at the time this problem arose. The planning sheet provides an opportunity to track two hypothetical choices the student may have made in the same situation. By examining the consequences of these possible actions students are more likely to be able to reflect on which would have been the best option to choose and therefore provide them with more positive action choices and consequences, should a similar problem arise in the future. It is integral that students discuss their actions and consequences not only with the Planning Room teacher but also with their parent/s. Strong partnerships between home and school will encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour and support them in making more appropriate behaviour choices in the future. For more information, and to view the Peace Car planning sheet, visit the school website. Premier’s Spelling Bee Last Monday four of our students attended Ettalong Public School to compete in the regional finals of the Premiers Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Summer Lloyd-Johnson and Peter Lubke from Stage 2 and Fionn Henderson-Foley and Darcy Dunlop from Stage 3 for reaching this level of the competition. • Changes to Planning Room

• Premier’s Spelling Bee

• Regional Athletics

• Kincumber Festival

End of Term It is hard to believe we have reached the end of another term, with only

one more to go till the end of the year. It has been another busy term and there are many tired and weary students and staff looking forward to a well deserved break.

A reminder that Term 4 does not begin with a staff development day and is therefore not a pupil-free day.

Changes to Planning Room

Next term at KPS our students will notice some changes to our Planning Room procedures.

P & C NEWS

A BIG THANK YOU to Kylie Long for organising and running a cake stall at the Kincumber Festival on behalf of the school. Almost $500

was raised to go towards new playground equipment. Many thanks to others who helped out (Wendy Nunn, Meegan Rambow and Lee Beveridge) and to all those who sent in cakes to be sold. Thank you also to the YMCA and the children who made the yummy biscuits—

they were a great success! We are still looking for more volunteers for the Bunnings BBQ (West

Gosford) on 2nd October. We have help between 8am and 11am. If you can help anytime from 11am to 4pm, please let me know on: [email protected] or 0405 207 170. This is an excellent opportunity to raise more funds for the school. Many thanks to those

who have already volunteered their time. We are also still looking for a FETE CO-ORDINATOR for next year’s

fete. Please consider helping us out otherwise there will be no fete and we will lose a fantastic opportunity. Again, please email me on [email protected] or call 0405 207 170 if you can help.
