Aside from the fact that getting the attention or interest of the reader (professors for students' model essays and the targeted audience for general or professional purpose academic essays) is necessary, you are also creating a favourable first impression.

Start with an intriguing introduction.

Being noticed is not only about getting attention; it should also be about sustaining the attention because what you are talking about is relevant.

Show relevance from the start.

Support your intriguing introduction with a demonstration of the relevance of your topic.

Emotion gives form as well as substance to your discussion from start (introduction), to the main body (discussion) and to the end (conclusion).

Appeal to the emotion.

As part of your introduction, add emotion to what you are trying to present and argue.

Emotion is very effective as a call of action in the conclusion part because it appeals to the emotion, to the heart, not only the mind.

Emotion is form because it is a style. It is also substance because it gives heart, meat.

Structure sentences / statements to your advantage.

Do not be a blind slave of strict grammar. Yes, you do not need to always follow strict rules of grammar. When called for, you can restructure your sentences or statements to help you achieve more impact and, thus, get noticed for the right reasons and for the right purpose.

And besides, using only simple and plain words will bore readers and even lead them to thinking that you have a limited vocabulary.

Use jargon sometimes.

To be noticed, you need to use highfaluting words sometimes. Yes, the general rules say that you should avoid using jargon. However, there are exceptions to rules.

You have a purpose here and that is to be noticed so that you can get higher marks (for the student who will use your essay as a model) and get the interest of readers (for the individual who commissioned you to write the essay).

Inject a little humour.

Sprinkle a little funniness. Keep it decent. Sometimes serious things can be viewed with a lighter heart but still staying serious. Sometimes jokes can be thought provoking which is one way of demonstrating critical and analytical thinking.
