Travel with an open mind – you’re about to spend 11days with a group of people you probably don’t knowand taking on a completely new challenge. Embrace it,support each other and you’ll come back to the UKwith firm friends for life having accomplished a hugeachievement!

Packing a few home comforts will make all thedifference, be it biscuits, sweets or some squash toliven up your water.

Separate your clothes and toiletries into differentdry bags, not only will this ensure your items don’t getwet but it will also make finding things quicker duringyour trek! You should only pack what you need in yourday bag to keep it as light as possible!

Day 1 Depart from LondonDepart London for Tanzania.

Day 2 Arrive into Kilimanjaro airportUpon our arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport wemake our way to tonight’s hotel where we’ll receive abriefing and chance to prepare for the challenge ahead.Overnight hotel

Day 3 Start of the trek to Machame Camp Our challenge starts today at Machame Gate (1,743m),the beginning of our route up the mountain. We start at asteady pace through the lush rainforest giving us thechance to spot some of the colourful birds and wildlifewho call this area of the mountain home. Our campsitetonight is Machame Camp at 3,100m. Overnight camping.Trekking time approx. 5-7 hours

Day 4 Machame Camp to Shira Caves CampAfter our first night under canvas we wake early for ahearty breakfast before we set off for our second daytrekking. We leave the rainforest today and entermoorland plains scattered with rocks and heather. Don’tforget to look behind you where across the plains MountMeru looms in the distance! Our camp tonight is by ShiraCaves and sits at 3,840m. Overnight camping. Trekkingtime approx. 4-6 hours

Day 5 Shira Caves Camp to Barranco Camp We leave camp behind us this morning and head east forour ascent to the Lava Tower at 4,600m. This is greatacclimatization as we walk to a much higher altitude thanwe will be sleeping today letting our bodies slowly adjust.The scenery dramatically changes as we head into theBarranco Valley where we are met by huge senecioplants before we set sight upon our camp set at 3,900m.Overnight camping. Trekking time approx. 6-7 hours

Day 6 Barranco Camp to Karanga CampOur challenge this morning is the Barranco Wall whichwe can see from camp. The path to the top is steep but weare rewarded with stunning views across Karanga Valley,where will camp tonight at 4,040m. After lunch at campthere is the opportunity for a light walk with even more

fantastic views of the stunning glacial valleys. Overnight camping. Trekking time approx. 4-5 hours

Day 7 Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp Today is another shorter walking day as we ascend toBarafu camp at 4,680m. This morning’s walk is a short butsteep uphill climb across barren landscapes with lots ofboulders and rocks. Tonight we will have the chance torest and take in Kilimanjaro’s neighbouring peaks beforeour final push to the summit tomorrow! Overnightcamping. Trekking time approx. 4-5 hours

Day 8 Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp Our trek this morning begins very early and we ascendslowly but surely following the trail of torches in thedistance heading towards the summit. This will be a toughday but will certainly provide lots of memorable momentsas by sunrise we should be near Stella Point (5,750m),which lies on the crater rim, and as our eyes adjust to thelight we are treated to yet more breath-taking views ofglaciers and ice-fields shimmering in the new light ofmorning. From here we continue our trek to the Uhurusummit (5,895m), the roof of Africa! After ourcelebrations here we descend back down to MillenniumCamp (3,000m), our final home on the mountain, with arest stop at Barafu Camp on the way. Overnight camping.Trekking time approx. 10-12 hours

Day 9 Millennium Camp to HotelOur final day trek through the rainforest leads down tothe Mweka gate where we collect a certificate of ascentand say goodbye to the mountain. Tonight thecelebrations commence with a chance to party with ournew trekking buddies and reflect on the incrediblechallenge we’ve completed together! Overnight hotel.Trekking time approx. 5 hours

Day 10 Free Day Today is a free day to relax at the hotel or take a trip intotown before we transfer to the airport for our flight backto London.

FUNDING YOUR CHALLENGE…

With this option you are able to pay a portion of your event costs(whatever you can manage) and then raise the rest. This just means thatyou can do a little less fundraising and can make a contribution to yourchallenge yourself.

You can choose to raise the full amount of sponsorship to ensure yourevent costs and minimum amount to your charity are all covered! Thisway, you don’t have to pay a thing towards your challenge and yourcharity receives a huge amount of much-needed funds! Both Skyline andyour charity will be on hand with fundraising tips and advice to get youstarted.

You can pay your own event costs – this way every penny you raise will goto your chosen cause! We recognise that a huge part of the challenge canbe the fundraising element so with this option you are able to pay foryour own place and then raise the remaining amount for charity.

MealsPlenty of food will be provided for you by our amazing team of cooks onthe mountain – you will be amazed at what they can rustle up and youcertainly won’t go hungry! Most dietary requirements can be cateredfor, please advise upon booking.

PackingWe’ll provide you with a kit list tailored to this challenge when you book.Whilst trekking your bag will be transported to each camp by our teamof porters so all you need to carry is your day pack with your essentialitems.

FUNDRAISINGFundraising is certainly achievable if you put your mind to it andneedn’t be daunting - the important thing is to let everyone knowabout the great cause you are fundraising for and to enjoyyourself! With a bit of creativity, energy and determination youwill easily be able to reach your fundraising target. Here are someideas to start you off and we’re more than happy to help with anyquestions you may have!

Begin by setting up an online donation page and ask everyone youknow to donate – the more people you ask, the more you will raise!

Host a dinner night/coffee morning and charge guests for a delicioushome cooked meal or tea and cake.

Put on the ultimate fundraising spectacular and host a charity ball!

Host your own pub quiz or bingo night.

Dig out your unwanted treasures and organise a car boot or jumblesale.

Organise a games night and invite friends over, charging for anevening of fun and games!

Leave collection boxes in your local pub or shop or organise a bagpack at your local supermarket.

Your charity will be on hand to provide you with a fundraising pack andplenty of useful hints and tips to help you hit your target!

PREPARATIONAll of our challenges are graded from Moderate (1) to Extreme (5)and the Kilimanjaro Trek is graded as Extreme (5).Extreme challenges require a great deal of endurance and are notfor the faint-hearted as you will experience extreme environments.These challenges are tough but the sense of achievement you willfeel can’t be beaten!Training is essential to prepare yourself for the challenge and youcan find a full training guide on your Participant Page uponbooking on to the trek.

We will provide you with a full kit list tailored to your trek once youhave signed up so that you will be fully prepared before you go! It’simportant to purchase good quality kit and equipment that suitsyou - never underestimate the importance of good walking boots!It’s vital to trek with comfortable shoes that you have worn induring your training months.
