Swingers Club Gets You Stronger So You Can Golf For Longer
Kieser Training is launching its new ‘Get Back into the Swing’ injury prevention and
management session for golfers searching to find those extra yards in their game.
Kieser Training has designed a unique Golf Program for golfers of all standards that
builds core strength, flexibility and power in order to treat and prevent injuries.
Golf needs the whole body – including the neck, shoulders, wrists, hips and legs – to
work in coordination. However, research shows that back injury is a golfer’s toughest
opponent. Kieser Training are experts in strength training for prevention and therapy
of golf injuries. Kieser Training believes that a strong musculoskeletal system is the
best way for golfers to play for longer and enjoy the game.
Australian professional golfer Stephen Kennedy has first-hand experience of the
Kieser Training program. After a severe back injury threatened to derail his career in
2011, Kennedy worked meticulously with a Kieser Training physiotherapist to
rehabilitate his injury using Kieser Training’s unique, tailored exercise program. By
2013, Kennedy had been pain-free for over 12 months and went on to win a major
title of golf’s world long-drive championships in Nevada, USA.
‘The most important part about playing golf is your core strength, stability and
posture. Kieser Training has improved all that in an amazing way and allowed me to
generate more power. I cannot recommend it highly enough for golfers of all
standards,’ said Kennedy.
Kieser Training is now delighted to present its ‘Get back into the Swing session’ for
those seeking to play longer and stronger. The session will be held at (Location TBC)
on (Date TBC). It will give you the opportunity to:

About Kieser Training.
We’ve all heard that exercise is good for our health. It allows us to enjoy a long and
happy life. But what happens when due to injury you aren’t able to get out and enjoy
that round of golf, that game of tennis, that ski holiday or even the gardening?
Instead you find yourself paying for expensive knee or back surgery and a costly
hospital stay or, worse still, having to give up what you truly love doing because of
the pain it causes afterwards. This is where Kieser Training can help.
Strength for life
By 2055 Australian men and women will be living till 95 and 97 respectively. Kieser
Training can help ensure your life is strong and injury free. It is an international
brand that stands for strength, prevention and therapy. Swiss entrepreneur Werner
Kieser established Kieser Training, in 1967, after he observed the positive effect
strength training had on people’s lives. Research conducted in 2009 has shown that
Kieser strength training boosts energy levels, protects against pain, creates the basis
for peak performance, increases well-being and helps achieve goals more quickly.
Over the years Kieser Training has established themselves as leaders in strength
training and injury recovery. They have worked with various Melbourne sporting
clubs, including Hawthorn Football Club, Melbourne Victory FC, Melbourne Rebels
and individual Australian sporting champions such as golfer Stephen Kennedy and
Jason Day. The unique Golf program offered by Kieser helped Kennedy become the
2013 World Senior Long Drive Champion.
Kieser Training has a number of programs available to help everyone live the life
they want and be injury free. Their trained physiotherapists and Accredited Exercise
Physiologists (AEP) will tailor a program using unique equipment designed to isolate
and target specific muscle groups. Kieser Training will ensure your life is lived to its
potential and allow you to enjoy the activities you love whether they be tennis, golf,
skiing or gardening.

Braces and Hits: How Stephen Kennedy Drove to the
Top of the World
By Andrew Else
“I almost gave it away completely”
To be a world Long Drive champion, you require a certain explosive power. You need
a combination of strength in the hips, resilience in your back and enough durability
to withstand an average swing speed of 217km/h.
That is Stephen Kennedy today. Before he came to Kieser Training, he needed a
$1000 knee brace just to walk a golf course.
“It was the only way I could relieve the pressure on my front leg. My back was in such
bad shape that it affected all these other parts of my body.”
This was 2011. Kennedy was 42 years old with a bung knee and a bad back. A golf
career based on power and a career as a landscaping and maintenance manager had
taken its toll.
Like a player standing over a ball that’s knee-deep in rough, Kennedy was looking for
answers. In search of pain relief, he found an advertisement for Kieser Training in
Golf Victoria Magazine. Seven months later, his orthopaedic knee brace was an
expensive piece of rubbish.
“I found it to be a completely different type of training,” Kennedy said this week.
“You go to other gyms and you see people standing in front of mirrors using
momentum instead of muscles. Reece from Kieser actually did some research for me
and we put together some goals.”
Whilst goal-setting and determination are keys to success in both strength training
and golf, other common factors -equipment and technology advances - saw Kieser
provide an edge.
Kennedy’s enthusiasm for Kieser is clear as he recalls, “what sets Kieser apart is the
Lumbar Extension Machine. There is nothing like it. In a very short time my rotational
power went up by 70%.”
With his training plan in place, Kennedy was able to strengthen his back and
therefore release other areas of his body that were clearly compensating for his
weakness. The tossing of his knee brace was a final sign that he was ready to
compete again. That he was able to achieve this with twice-weekly strengthening
sessions whilst still completing his physically demanding work duties demonstrates
the effectiveness of Kieser’s program.
So with a strong body and a year’s worth of practice under his belt, Kennedy made
his way to Mesquite, Nevada USA for the 2013 World Long Drive championship.
Competing in the Senior Division, Kennedy became Australia’s first Long Drive
champion with a recorded distance of 369 yards (337m). He took home a $50,000
winners cheque.
Of course, this victory wasn’t about the money. This was about the achievement of a
goal that was formulated during his early sessions with Reece at Kieser Training.
When he acted upon that magazine advertisement, his bank balance wasn’t his
foremost concern. Although his back may have been able to support carrying a
novelty cheque, it couldn’t support the swing that would get him there.
With a world title under his belt, Kennedy continued to improve. Last September,
competing in the open age Long Drive Championship, he recorded a personal best
drive of 451 yards (412m). Although this was surpassed by his competitors, it again
showed the improvement in his body and technique.
His plans for the future still involve landscaping and golf, but he may be leaving the
Long Drive Championships behind. Kennedy is seeking to join the Australasian
Seniors PGA Tour. As he quipped this week, that means he’ll have to ‘work on his
putting for once’, but given he already carries a +1 handicap, he displays a knack for
understatement that you might expect from a long drive specialist from the
south-west Victoria town of Portland. The entry fees and travel costs are a concern
also, but that’s never stopped him before.
And after all, he’s saving money on knee braces.
Frequently Asked Questions.
What is Kieser Training?
Kieser Training is a strengthening and conditioning program that combines
conventional physiotherapy techniques with exercises on specific machines. This is
also known as medical strengthening training (MST) physiotherapy. Kieser Training
strengthens the body’s muscles and improves core strength, stability and flexibility.
It aims to prevent or treat injuries by building strength and endurance.
How does it work?
Kieser Training provides a system of balanced strengthening using 28 different
training machines. This allows clients to build strength using up to 41 different
exercises that take individual muscles through their entire range of movement.
How much does it cost?
Kieser fees vary depending on your circumstances and training needs. Consultations
with Kieser physiotherapists and exercise physiologists can be claimed through
private health insurance.
I’ve never been to a gym before. Does that matter?
No. Kieser Training is for everyone, no matter what your body shape or activity level.
Our clients are aged 15-87 and we tailor all programs to suit your lifestyle goals.
How does it differ from a normal gym?
Kieser Training is unique in that both an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and a
physiotherapist oversee clients’ exercise programs. While training, a physiotherapist
or AEP is always on-hand to assist with any training questions or needs, such as
assistance with technique or modifying exercises where needed. Kieser Training
Centres have a different atmosphere to typical gyms – there are no mirrors or
pumping music at Kieser.
Do I have to be in pain to use Kieser Training?
No. Kieser Training is about prevention just as much as it is about treating pain. We
firmly believe our methods not only cure pain, but also prevent it from returning.
Our training program helps build muscle strength and endurance so you become
stronger and are able to do what you love for longer.
What if I don't play sport? Can I still get benefit from Kieser Training?
Kieser focuses on preventing injury by addressing muscle weakness. Many of our
members attend Kieser to maintain their strength, joint range of movement and
prevent injury.
Kieser also has programs tailored to help people manage health conditions such as
diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis. Research has shown that regular strength
training is an important part of managing these conditions.
What is the Kieser Training Golf Program?
As you play a round of golf, your body gets tired and your balance, timing and
coordination are all affected.
Kieser’s Golf Program is a 12-week supervised conditioning program that aims to
increase core strength, eliminate back pain, increase club head speed and improve
flexibility.
The Golf Program involves the following steps:
An initial 1 hour physiotherapy consultation and assessment
An Initial strength evaluation
1:1 sessions with highly qualified instructors
Strength assessment and report upon completion.
Do I need a referral from my GP to attend Kieser Training?
You don’t need a referral to train with Kieser. To book in for an initial assessment,
