What does it mean to be forgiven? Why do we need to be forgiven? What have we done wrong? What did Jesus do so that we can say, “In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven?” The Apostle Paul, who became one of Jesus’ biggest fans, wrote many letters to early Christians. Paul wrote his letters to encourage the new churches - and to help them fix things that were wrong. Our bible reading today is from Paul’s letter to the Romans. Like a lot of what Paul wrote, it might be confusing for kids to understand. It’s actually confusing for many adults to understand too. Here’s what Paul wants us to know: It’s hard to be good, but if we ask God to help us, it’s easier. We all make mistakes. It’s what we do after those mistakes that matter. Sometimes the mistakes are huge and we hurt people. Sometimes the mistakes are small and only we notice. Anytime you make a mistake, pray to God and ask God to forgive you and then work to do better next time. When we ask God for help to do better, God hears us and helps us.

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven Look and listen today during the church service. Do you hear anyone say “In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven?” Is there a time when we say it together? Read through the worship bulletin, can you find those words anywhere?

• What does it mean to be forgiven?

• Why do we need to be forgiven? What have we done wrong?

• What did Jesus do so that we can say, “In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven?”

The Apostle Paul, who became one of Jesus’ biggest fans, wrote many letters to early Christians. The word of Jesus’ life, his actions, miracles, and teachings was spreading everywhere and churches were forming. Paul wrote his letters to encourage the new churches - and to help them fix things that were wrong.

Our bible reading today is from Paul’s letter to the Romans. Like a lot of what Paul wrote, it might be confusing for kids to understand. It’s actually confusing for many adults to understand too. Here’s what Paul wants us to know:

It’s hard to be good, but if we ask God to help us, it’s easier.

Where in the Word is the Word? Our scripture readings today are both from the Old and new Testaments: Romans 7:15-25a and Psalm 145:8-14.

Can you find these bible passages in your bible? If you don’t know what all the words and numbers mean, use this as your guide:

Something to ponder Let’s take a look at The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Knowing what Paul wrote to the Romans, I wonder what part of The Lord’s Prayer asks got to help us when we might make bad choices or make mistakes?

Challenge

Have you ever written a prayer? Why not begin by trying to put The Lord’s Prayer into your own words? Use the space below.
