Kids - One Republic

For our song we have chosen One Republic – Kids, which is from the pop genre. We have chosen this song because we feel it references an aspect of music that everybody in the group enjoys, its fun, upbeat and positive. Furthermore, we feel it has the right connotations of the pop genre that we wish to portray within our music video, digipaks and magazines. The song also meant we could incorporate the common representations seen with the genre.

What song have you chosen and why?

The inspirations for our music video include other pop songs and videos like Shawn Mendes DCE. They are inspirational to us through the way they are shot. Shawn Mendes uses a large amount of CU’s which a lot of other pop videos use this can be seen from his video Stitches. Therefore we took inspiration from this to include money shots of our artist, which is also a common representation within the pop genre.Another inspiration that we took from pop videos is the narrative aspect that One Republic and Maroon 5 use. This gave us slight inspiration to make a good narrative that will be able to grab peoples attention but not be cliché. From this inspiration we were able to construct a narrative that should be able to keep our target audience entertained for the duration of our music video.

What are you inspirations?

Our band are called Waimea and their brand image will be a simple logo with a “W” in the middle in a variety of colours. These logos will be on the digipaks but also printed on t-shirts that will be worn in the music video. This means that the artist is not only gaining promotion but are self-promoting their own merchandise. This will make the audience want to buy their stock and also continue to listen to the music. This results in them selling their brand image more and gain more fans and popularity. Our logo and brand image will be fairly similar to that of Rihanna. Rihanna uses the letter “R” which is very effective, this is because it is easily recognizable and so means the audience can distinguish the logo quickly from other artists. This will seen within the video, and also displayed as the key image on our digipaks.

Who are your band/artist (yours not the original) and what’s their brand image? Who are they similar to?

Who is your target audience?• Our core target audience will be young adults/ adults aged between 17-30. There is no niche

audience as the genre is widely known and one of the most listened to. The tastes and attitudes of our audience will largely consist of social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Most likely they will not follow the traditional methods of consuming media (going to cinema); using Netflix/ Amazon Prime/ Now TV are the more likely options. Our target audience is more likely to be interested in clothes and fashion and therefore be part of clothing tribes, this will be the same for music along with sports.

• Our music will serve our audience as a means of escape from the world. It will a source of entertainment and act as an emotional release whilst also helping them find their own personal identity. Our genre will help them find their own identity because our genre is very relatable for most people in a lot of situations (break ups).

• Due to the age range of our core target audience most of our music will be consumed online through apps such as Spotify, however YouTube will also be a main source of consumption for our music.
