Kleve spa baths museum
The Kleve spa baths museum located
on the Kleve spa boulevard, which is
lined by magnificent mansions, dates
back to the spa town's heyday, when
it was known as the "baths of Cleves".
The museum was built in two phases
(1845/46 and 1872), and was
situated next to the amphitheatre,
which was built in the 17th century.
The building fell into disrepair after
the First World War. The rebuilding of
the spa baths began at the start of
the 1990s. The building was
converted into a museum by the
typographer and designer Walter
Nikkels and the architect Heinz
Wrede. During the reconstruction and
fitting out of the new spa baths, the
team sought to maintain a balance
between old and new.

made it his goal to transform his ducal
seat and its surroundings into a
parkland of unprecedented beauty.
With the Kleve gardens, he left behind
a legacy which would serve as an
inspiration many times over, for places
from Berlin to Versailles.

Luther Memorial
The Luther Memorial, created by Ernst
Rietschel in honour of the great
Reformer Martin Luther and unveiled
on 25 June 1868, is the world’s
largest Reformation memorial.
Dom St. Peter
The Cathedral was the scene of several
milestones of European history. In
1048, Bruno of Egisheim-Dagsburg was
elected pope Leo IX here; in 1122, the
Concordate of Worms ended the
Investiture Contest, the struggle for
supremacy between the emperor and
the Church; and in 1521, Martin Luther
was summoned by emperor Charles V
to recant his teachings before the Diet
of Worms, a historic assembly that was
to change the history of Christianity.

Liebfrauen Church
North of the city centre, surrounded
by vineyards, at the place where a
Lady chapel once stood, a collegiate
church—the Liebfrauenstift (Our
Beloved Lady’s collegiate church)—
was erected by the Bishop of Worms
in 1298. It is the vineyard where the
famous Liebfrauenmilch is grown,
today sold as Wormser
Liebfrauenstift-Kirchenstück.
Herrnsheim castle
Herrnsheim castle, situated in the north
of the eponymous suburb, goes back
to a fortress built in 1460. Remodelled
into a baroque castle from 1711 on, it
was severely damaged in 1792. The
ruins were used to build today’s
empire-style castle after the plans of
Mannheim architect Jakob Friedrich
Dyckerhoff. In 1840 further alterations
were made.

Fischmarkt
The Hamburg Fishmarket attracts over
70,000 visitors to the Elbe every
Sunday. Here you can find fresh fish,
fruit baskets and tropical flowers.
Rumour has it that the hawkers
loudly shouting their wares at the
Fischmarkt can be heard all the way
over in nearby Reeperbahn.
The Alster Lake
The Alster is a big attraction for both
Hamburgs locals and visitors, offering
popular boat trips around the Inner
and Outer Alster as well as walks
around the water.
With a size of 164 hectares, the Alster
lake also has a long shoreline which is a
popular meeting point. Well-used
jogging paths run along the waters
and small sailing vessels and barges
make tours of the lake.

St. Michaelis Church
This distinctive landmark in Hamburg
is better known locally as the
"Michel". Visitors can admire the
church's impressive central vaulted
nave, containing three music organs,
and enjoy a beautiful view of the city
from the tower.
As you pass through the Hamburg
inner city, the church tower of Michel
can seem to follow you everywhere.
This may be due to the fact that, at
132 metres, the tower of the main
church dwarfs most buildings in the
city centre and can be seen from
many angles.
City Hall
The location of the City Hall is south of
the Binnenalster.
The City Hall is an impressive and
eclectic building which was built in
1897. In the City Hall you can find the
senate (State government) and the
Hamburg Parliament. There are regular
guided tours and exhibitions in the
Rathausdiele of the City Hall.

HafenCity and Speicherstadt
Whether it is the historical warehouse
complex in Speicherstadt, or the
currently under-construction Elbe
Philharmonic Hall, or even the large
passenger cruise ships in the docks,
there is a lot to explore in the
HafenCity quarter, located right on
the river Elbe.
Reeperbahn
On the Reeperbahn, Hamburg's red-
light district rubs shoulders with
restaurants, bars, theatres and
nightclubs. Recently the street was
voted Hamburg's best street in
Prinze.de, the city's entertainment
guide, followed by Schulterblatt and
Mühlenkamp. The street's nightlife
has something for everyone and is
the first stop for every nightowl.
