Introduction and Needs Assessment Summary
The Humble Independent School District (HISD) serves the communities of Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, Summerwood, Eagle Springs, and Fall Creek. The District’s boundaries encompass approximately 90 square miles in Harris County. Humble ISD is nationally recognized for the outstanding education it offers to students, and is listed among the 25 fastest growing school districts in Texas. The District provides a well-rounded program of public education for children from prekindergarten through grade twelve. In addition to basic instructional programs, the District offers special education, gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, remedial, college preparatory, career and technical programs, and an international baccalaureate program. The District is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Kingwood High School was established in 1979 and is the second oldest high school in the district. It is a comprehensive four-year high school that emphasizes student connectivity and leadership as well as academic excellence. Kingwood High School has a long history of well-established traditions and supports many various clubs and organizations as well as advanced placement and career and technology certification courses. A high degree of professionalism exists among our employees, and an on-going recognition of student and staff excellence contributes to this environment. The instructional program is geared toward having the student meet or exceed grade level expectations. Emphasis is placed on higher level thinking skills, including research methodologies and independent, complex and critical thinking skills. The faculty also understands that each student's future success is embodied not only in his high school graduation but also in his mastery of those specific skills - team collaboration, public speaking, integration and manipulation of technology, and an understanding of a global economy - that will enable him to compete in the 21st century. Kingwood High School attracts highly qualified personnel because of its commitment to excellence. Kingwood High School employs 216.9 employees consisting of 185.8 professionals, 12.9 educational aides, and 18.2 professional support staff. Professional employees include 176.4 classroom teachers with an average of 11.8 years of experience. Master's degrees have been earned by 51.1 percent of the teaching staff and 4.2 percent of the teaching staff have earned a doctorate degree. The Kingwood High School faculty believes fundamentally in the importance of continuous improvement and thus spends at least 2 hours each week as a professinal learning community meeting with instructional teams to create lessons that integrate high levels of student engagement and learning. These learning communities also discuss student achievement and create opportunities for all students to master designated material .
Campus Number: 101-913-002
Kingwood High School's staff members are dedicated to providing each and every student the best education through an intensive and challenging curriculum and sound research-based instructional practices. Under the leadership of Principal Melissa Hayhurst, the faculty works diligently to provide the best education for all students. Humble ISD’s comprehensive needs assessment shows continued growth is needed in student academic performance to reach Exemplary status district-wide. In order to address this need, we must employee, train, and retain highly qualified and motivated staff. To ensure limited disruption to instruction, it is vital that we provide a safe and secure environment and a welcoming culture and climate for all stakeholders. Kingwood High School's comprehensive needs assessment indicates that the structures we have created and improved over the past 9 years (Smaller Learning Communities and advisory) have provided the majority of our students with a supportive environment. 87% know at least one adult who cares for them, the first being their teacher followed by their advisor, and 84% describe their overall experience at KHS as either positive or extremely positive. The needs assessment also indicates that continued growth is needed in student academic performance not only to reach exemplary status but also to engage all learners at a higher level with lessons that are both creative and relevant. Although 84% of students reported feeling safe at school, it is essential as a learning community that we continue to teach, model and monitor positive student behavior.

Demographics
Humble ISD schools are organized by feeder patterns composed of specific elementary, middle, and high schools
(Atascocita High School, Humble High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, and Summer
Creek High School). In addition, HISD provides alternative options for its students through its Quest Early College
High School. Kingwood High School is in the Kingwood feeder pattern and serves 2644 students. Humble ISD’s
Associate Superintendent oversees our feeder pattern team to ensure coordination and quality instructional
programs within each of its campuses. Our school is lead by the building principal who ensures each staff member,
student, and parent is informed of how they can improve student success.
