KFFL Read to Succeed Month recapEvent overviewKPMG’s Family for Literacy (KFFL) Read to Succeed Month took place throughout the month of March 2017 kicking off on March 2, in recognition of Read Across America Day. The national campaign was designed to promote childhood literacy, while engaging our employees and the extended KPMG family to serve the communities where we live and work.

As part of KFFL’s Read to Succeed activities, KFFL chapters hosted book fairs at Title I schools in 70 U.S. cities allowing students to shop for books of their very own. A total of 70,000 books were distributed through this channel. In addition, in eight U.S. cities, KPMG held “mobile book fairs” providing educators who serve children in need the opportunity to obtain books that meet the needs and interests of their students at no cost. First Book’s National Auction Benefitting KFFL:

In addition to hosting book fairs, from June 5th through June 9th, KPMG’s U.S. offices participated in First Book’s National Auction to help raise money for their office’s KFFL chapter -- allowing them to purchase additional books for schools in their community. Highlights included:

— More than 40 KPMG offices across the country created exciting and fun-filled packages that were up for bid.

— Exciting selections included travel packages, sporting event tickets, memorabilia, entertainment packages, and more.

— The firm donated $1,500 to its Des Moines office for putting together the most creative package. Des Moines offered tickets to the Solheim Cup, Iowa Cubs and Iowa State Fair in addition to a three night stay at a local hotel.

— The firm donated $1,000 to its Minneapolis, Nashville and Albuquerque offices, whose packages attracted the highest bid based on office size.

— $73,000 total funds were raised for KFFL which will put more than 25,000 books into the hands of children in need.

KFFL Read to Succeed Month recapChanging lives one book at a time

Hi Everyone,

Two of us from Support for Families of Children with Disabilities participated in this giveaway. It was well organized and the books were wonderful. We were in and out in ½ hour and that counted everything. We can’t wait to see the smiles of the children when they receive their new books. They even smell good with that “new” smell. Our Staff sends a big thank you to your staff and volunteers. It was an exciting and happy day.

Sincerely, Elaine Butler, Librarian Support for Families of Children with Disabilities
