EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

19 December 20175

P R E P A R E D N E S S P L A N N I N G G R O U P S I N M S U

Emergency Preparedness - an ongoing process to

prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover

from an Incident that threatens life, property,

operations, or the environment

The Planning Cycle - A dynamic process of activity

aimed at establishing and maintaining preparedness

i.e. assessment, planning and preparation, response,

continuity, recovery, mitigation and prevention. This

planning cycle was introduced and integrated into the

business process of all departments in the

Hospital/Healthcare Facilities.

Major Incident definition - “an incident which

overwhelms or threatens to overwhelm the resources

of the healthcare facility due to its nature, type,

location, severity or number of casualties involved.”

CBRNE RISKS

As healthcare provider for the Oil & Gas Industry, our

CBRNE Preparedness is aimed at preparing for risks

associated with our daily operations, those associated

with the oil & gas industry and the risks which surround

our facilities geographically.

CLINICAL DECONTAMINATION

Clinical Decontamination is the process where

contaminated persons are treated individually by

trained healthcare professionals using purpose

designed decontamination equipment. This is full wet

decontamination using Clinical Decontamination Units.

During Clinical decontamination, medical intervention is

provided throughout i.e. life threatening conditions are

managed simultaneously.

DECONTAMINATION UNIT – THE MDU

Provide a safe & comfortable working environment

Clinical decontamination in a temperature controlled &

air flow controlled environment.

Durable & Robust

Simplicity, does not need special skills to operate and

can be operated with the fewest number of workers

Facilitate easy access for patients who are on trolley,

wheelchair or being carried.

Self-sufficiency – power, water, drainage for a good

period of time, without external supplies.

Provide privacy & dignity for patients, respecting the

local cultural norms.

Major Incident surge capacity( to serve as line of

control and fixed decontamination facility

Capable of isolating and protecting the remaining

hospital, ensuring business continuity. Designed to be

capable of being disconnected, dismantled and

removed in case of residual contamination or to remain

closed post-activity, to preserve evidence & facilitate

forensics

Provides clinical decontamination in a temperature &

air flow controlled environment, with air pressure

control, independent utility supplies, waste water

management etc.
