• Savings Account• Checking Account• Cheque• Certified Cheque• NSF• Stop Payment• Credit Card• Debit Card• Bank Reconciliation

• Payor• Payee• Outstanding Cheque• Cancelled Cheque• Post-dated Cheque• Stale Dated Cheque

Savings account• A place to save your money and earn interest• A passbook is used to record your money

Checking account• A safe and convenient place to hold your

money before use• No interest is paid

Cheque• A written order directing a bank to pay money

as instructed• A promissory note

NSF• Not sufficient funds• This means that there is not enough money in

the account that a person is trying to take money out of

Stop Payment• Is an action put into effect by a payor• It is used to cancel a contract

Certified Cheque• A stamped cheque that is guaranteed by

someone and cannot fail

Payor• A person who wrote the cheque

Payee• A person who received and will cash the

cheque

Outstanding cheque• It refers to money you owe• It is a cheque that has been written but

has not been cashed (reached your bank yet)

Cancelled Cheque• A cheque that has completed its life

cycle• It is stamped "cancelled" so it cannot be

re-used

Post-dated Cheque• A cheque that can only be used after a

future date, it cannot be cashed until then

Stale-dated Cheque• A cheque that is over 6 months old, no

longer legal or valid

Bank Reconciliation• To balance your chequebook• To update your records and see how

much money you really have

Debit Card• Your own money, when it's gone it's

gone, no negative balance allowed

Credit Card• Not your own money, it is borrowed or

loaned on credit from someone (like Visa or Master Card)
