Last year during our first district board training, the Major Emphasis commit-tee agreed that the district goal for the Eliminate Project would be $20,000,

which, although $2,000 more than we had achieved last year, is completely fea-sible. Over the course of five years, Key Club International has been promoting the Eliminate Project to eradicate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) from undeserved countries. So far, under all Kiwanis-Family branches, we have raised over $76.8 million of our $110 million goal. This money goes into the remain-ing 24 countries where MNT has not been eradicated, and only $1.80 can save a mother and her babies from contracting the disease. The Georgia district has been working productively to raise awareness and funds for these efficient vaccinations.

I hope that all is going well with you and that your Key Club year has been truly amazing

thus far. It’s been an honour and privilege to serve your great district and this past year has been nothing but a wonderul experience. I must congratulate you on the hard work you have done this past year on a club, divisional and district level. Governor Tyler and the 2015-2016 District Board have really gone the extra mile in ensuring that your district succeeds in all it’s endeav-ours and that this year was the epitome of service. For those of you who are interested in running for a Key Club officer position, I wholheartedly encourage you to

put yourself out there despite any fears and to chase your dreams as it is rewarding. Key Club Interna-tional definitely appreciates your drive, enthusiasm and dedication to ensure that our motto- caring our way of life, is reflected in your homes, school and community. I can’t wait to visit for District Con-vention and I’m looking forward to meeting you all and having loads of fun!

Governor’s AddressGreeting Georgia District,I can’t believe its February already and our year is quickly coming to a close. We are only a month and a half away from District Convention. It’s been such a good year and I am proud of all of you for doing such a great job, but the year isn’t over so we need to make sure that we are reading Lieutenant Governor Newsletters and making efforts to continue to reach our goals as our time on district convention ap-proaches.Be sure to be making plans to attend District and International Conven-tion. Both will be in the Atlanta metro area this year, so it is a good year to attend both and get a larger sense of what exactly the Georgia District and

Key Club International are all about. This year will be a lot of fun, with the Georgia District hosting International Convention for the first time in over ten years. The year has gone by so quickly and I can’t believe that not only is my time as our District Governor almost up, but that I am also about to graduate high school. I have been on board for 3 years now and I can’t really remem-ber what my life was like before it, so I am sad to see the year ending, but I am happy that I got to serve the Geor-gia District all this time. As always if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please ask. Thanks so Much!

Happy Holidays!

SecretaryGreetings Everyone, I hope you all had a happy New Years and a fresh start to a year full of service and tons of fun! Please do not forget that February is the month that offi-cer elections for your school must be help for the 2016-2017 year. If you have any questions regard-ing the officer election process, you can go online to the Georgia Key Club website, or contact your divisions Lieutenant Governor. Thank you for all the service you and all your clubs have done and I look forward to hearing about all of them, please share them with all of us on the district board and Georgia Key Clubbers by posting them on our so-cial media accounts!

I would also like to thank all of the clubs that have turned in officer information for

the 2015-2016 year. If your club hasn’t submitted in officer information yet,

it can be submitted online at http://www.gakeyclub.org/resources/officer-info/. Officer information is very im-portant because it helps ensure com-munication between the district level of Key Club with the club level! If you have any questions regarding officer information feel free to email me at [email protected], or you can

contact your assigned division’s lieu-tenant governor. I would love to an-

swer any questions you have! Thank you all and I hope you all have a won-derful year of service!

Secretary TreasurerHello Everyone! As we are approaching the end of the Key Club year, I want to say thank you for al the service work that you have done in your communi-ties. Being on District Board and hearing news about service projects that you all carry out, I am always amazed by how much impact Key Clubbers have made in the state. We still have clubs that haven’t paid dues yet. If your club has not paid dues for the year, your club is no longer in good standing. Dues this year is $14, and the deadline for dues was December 1, 2015. All informa-tion on how to pay dues can be found on gakeyclub.org/resources/dues. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I want to say another thank you to all the clubs that have paid dues al-ready, especially those that paid before the deadline! (Early bird anyone?)I cannot wait to see you all at District Convention. Although the deadline for most awards and contest applica-tions has passed, there are still some awards and contests that you and your club could apply for at Dis-trict Convention. Make sure to check those out!

Nearly 15 people from 3 different clubs in-cluding North Atlanta, Dunwoody, and Land-mark Christian showed up. The rally was held at

Georgia Tech in January and the college’s Circle K club provided pizza and bowling afterward. “It was super cool to learn about what was going on at a district level.. I thought there was just key club but it turns out there’s an entire Kiwan-is family!” Senior Diana Sweeney said. She plans to go to Georgia Tech in the fall and is looking at opportunities to join community service orga-nizations.

Members got more in-sight on District Conven-tion, contests and even fundraising ideas. Every-one had a great time and said they’d highly recom-mend an activity after a presentation.

The 2016 rally for Division 1 was a success!

Every year, the SWGHA Key Club puts to-gether 100 bagged lunch-es for a local homeless shel-ter. We buy water bottles, a dessert like M o o n p i e s , chips or fruit, and then there’s the part every-

one loves mak-ing: peanut butter and jel-ly sandwiches. Over the years, there have been many debates in our club about the most efficient way to make these s a n d w i c h e s : mix the peanut butter and jel-

ly in one bowl and then spread it on the bread, or put on each spread one at a time? And then...should we spread the c o n d i m e n t s with our hands, or with a plas-tic utensil? This year, the clean-est of us won,

and we spread the peanut but-ter and jelly one at a time onto the sandwiches using an array of plastic uten-sils. We didn’t beat our time record this year, but we cer-tainly had fun!

Divisional RallyOn February 6th, Division 11 had their Divisional Rally at the Marietta Trolley Company. Their meeting consisted of playing Key Club games, making paper flow-ers for a local elderly home, and electing the new Lieutenant Gov-ernor of Division 11 for the 2016-2017 year! We talked about Dis-trict Convention in March and International Convention, which we are so excited is being held in Atlanta this year!

Marietta Trolley CompanyAfter the meeting, we all went on a Marietta Ghost Tour, which led us by lantern-light through the areas in and around the Marietta Square. We ended up learning a lot about the civil war in the south and about the ghosts that are said to reside right here in our hometown. It was nice to see everyone having so much fun!

DIVISION 11

Finally, I want to thank my division for being so supportive and sticking

with me this past year and I hope

that the Lieu-tenant Gov-

ernor who succeeds me enjoys has as

much fun as I did!

Page 19: Key Ring - February 2016

On January 23, 2016 the members of Key Clubs from all around Divi-sion 13 joined together

for the last get-together of the year before District Convention this March. There were members from three different Key Clubs as well as three Kiwanis Clubs who came together for a lunch of waffles and official division business. There was a speaker from a local Brunswick environmental agency called Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, as well as a presentation by our District Project Chair on Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, a service project, and the election of a Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 Key Club year.

The service project was a crafty project where the attendees made valentines for the elderly living in local assisted living residents. There were around 50 valentines made which will be delivered on Valen-tine’s Day by local Key Club mem-bers. The elections followed, and of the three candidates, the winner was Riley Power from Glynn Acad-emy! She is a sophomore this year and is very excited to serve Division 13 and the Georgia District next year! Come and see her be installed at District Convention!

On October 22-23 AHS Key Club members helped out at Chi-aha festival. The AHS key club helps Keep Rome Beautiful by making hats for kids. Not just any hats though, hats that are made out of newspaper and ribbon. It may not seem like it but the kids are also learning about the importance of recycling by showing them how you can do cool activities with newspaper like make hats. ASH key club member Amber Philip said, “I love volunteering at Chiha because it’s always such success and it's such a fun environment to work it”. After the newspaper is wrapped around the kid’s head they get to decoration with their favorite Disney Character stickers and even their name. AHS key club member Abby Cummings said,” All of the kids loved getting to decorate their hats! One of the little girls put all Disney princess on her crown”. To most people giving up their weekend to have gone volunteering is not worth it but to have seen the smiles on the kid’s faces and help Keep Rome Beautiful it was worth it to AHS key club.

Remember the big pic-ture for our district project, we are raising

$120,000 dollars by 2020 in order to build a new Educa-tion Center on the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes Moun-tainview campus. We need your help, Georgia Key Club-bers. All it takes is $3.75 per member, and we will meet our district project goal of $27,000. With that being said, how will you raise your $3.75? It’s time for us to take charge, and start fundraising for the #foundation4education cen-ter. I look forward to soaring past our district project goal of $27,000 this year, so get out there and fundraise! Serve on, Georgia Key Clubbers!

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation.

This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club mem-bers serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through gifts to the G. Harold Martin Fellowships.

Clubs may request funding as-sistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The com-mittee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other orga-nizations to fund and complete the project.

As of right now, Kiwanis and UNICEF have raised over $104 million, but we still need $6 million to en-sure that everyone around the world is vaccinated from this terrible disease. In 2015, MNT was eliminat-ed from Cambodia, India, and Mauritania, so prog-ress is looking good! We are close to eliminating MNT in 21 countries, like Ken-ya and Haiti, but it is never too late to hold a fundrais-er at your school! Ideas in-clude selling hot chocolate, holding a car wash (once the weather gets nicer), or holding a raffle. Feel free to contact the Major Empha-sis chair for more ideas!

District Convention is coming in sooner than you think! Before the convention, the Major Emphasis and Kiwan-is Family committees would like to remind you to turn in your funds raised for the Eliminate Project (if you haven’t al-ready). Remember, if you raise $250, you’ll earn a patch for your club ban-ner, you’ll have reached the club goal, and most importantly, saved al-most 140 mothers’ and babies’ lives.

When you step into the doors of DCON, re-member to register for the Race to Eliminate, a fun and exciting scaven-ger hunt which will be held on Saturday at 2:00. The event will take about an hour to complete. You will be placed in teams of 2 or 4, and the winners will be crowned “Agent Eliminate” and receive special prizes. The cost is only $1.80, enough to immunize a mother and her future children from maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT).
