• Critical to the success of HEAnet’s mission will be to continue to develop strong relationships founded and created by John Boland and the team at HEAnet.

• There must be a core focus on these partnerships and relationships, as well as maintaining a great culture and supporting our talented team of individuals at HEAnet.

• This will be an early stage priority that must continue throughout the entire tenure.

High Speed Connectivity - HEI

New Network - 100Gbps• Dec ‘16 - DCU and IT Blanchardstown Connect• January 2017 - INEX peering at 100Gbps• March - Phase 1 ends, pilot complete• June - National core network complete• July - Five more universities connected • August - >50% of HEAnet traffic passes through

new network• September - GÉANT, GTT (transit), JANET,

Microsoft connected• More than 80% of HEAnet traffic passes through

new network• October - Schools connected

High Speed Connectivity - Schools

• Upgrading individual post-primary schools capacity beyond 100 Mbps• Some connected at 1 Gbps• Usage increased from 100 Mbps to 620 Mbps immediately

• Schools post-primary network now completely uncontended • Schools Traffic still growing 35% per year• Content Filtering capacity upgraded to 30 Gbps but can scale to 100 Gbps
