Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals has been manufacturing fireextinguishing foam concentrates and dry chemical pow-ders in England for over 50 years.

Cost efficiency, maximum fire extinguishing performance, versatility andstorage stability have all been achieved through a commitment to ongo-ing research and product development.

Synthetic FoamsFilmfoam (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) Synthetic detergent based Filmfoam concentrates aremade from a sophisticated blend of fluorocarbonand hydrocarbon surfactants. Their high fluidity onfilm formation on most hydrocarbon fuels providesquick extinction and ensures good re-sealingcapability if the blanket is disturbed. Filmfoam isavailable as a 1%, 3% or 6% concentrate. It is widelyused in the offshore and aviation industries. Theextensive range includes products certified to UL162,ICAO level B, EN-1568 Section 3 and UK DefenceStandard 42-40.

Filmfoam AR (Alcohol Resistant AFFF)A synthetic detergent based Aqueous Film-FormingFoam with a water soluble polymer which has beendeveloped specifically for use on a wide range ofhydrocarbon and polar solvent fires. Filmfoam AR iscertified to EN1568 and UL Listed under the UL162Standard.

Hifoam (High Expansion)A mix of synthetic foaming agents makes thisconcentrate perform exceptionally well when used atmedium and high expansion. Hifoam can be used atexpansion ratios from 10:1 to 1,000:1.

Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals is one of Europe’s leadingfoam producers with a wide range of products bothnatural protein based and synthetic chemical basedwith comprehensive approvals. Its global distributionnetwork covers more than 60 countries.

Proteinic FoamsProfoam (Protein)Protein foam liquid based on hydrolysed naturalprotein with added salts to provide an environ-mentally gentle and stable foam blanket at minimumcost. Protein based foams are used particularly in themarine industry and for personnel training. Profoamis available as a 3% or 6% foam concentrate.

Fluorofoam (FluoroProtein)High quality FluoroProtein foam liquids combinegood extinction and burnback properties onhydrocarbon fuel fires with modest cost and goodfoam stability. Fluorofoam uses telomer basedfluorocarbon surfactants to provide effectivehydrocarbon storage tank fire protection. Fluorofoamis available as a 3% or 6% foam concentrate. Extraperformance can be obtained by using Fluorofoam903 Plus, a 3% concentrate specially formulated foruse on 100% MTBE, unleaded gasoline mixes with upto 17% MTBE and a wide range of hydrocarbon fuels. These products are independently listed byUnderwriters Laboratories (UL) to its UL162 Standard.

Centrifoam (Film-Forming FluoroProtein)Centrifoam is a high quality blend of hydrolysednatural proteins with telomer based fluorocarbonsurfactants. Excellent fire control and extinguishingperformance is combined with good re-sealingcapability and superior burn-back resistance.Centrifoam is ideally suited to aviation applicationsand is available as a 3% or 6% foam concentrate withUL 162 Listing and ICAO level B certification.

Centrifoam AR (Alcohol Resistant FFFP)A multi-purpose natural protein based foam for useon a wide range of both hydrocarbon and polarsolvent fuel fires. Two grades are available, a 3x3 foruse at 3% on hydrocarbon and polar solvent fuels, and a 3x6 effective at just 3% concentration onhydrocarbons, but requiring 6% induction on all polarsolvent chemicals. Both products are UL Listed.

Freeze protectionKerr Fire Fighting Chemicals can modify the freezingpoint of specific foam concentrates to provide extrafreeze protection down as low as -25°C. Freezeprotected versions of Filmfoam, Centrifoam andFluorofoam are available.

ApprovalsSpecific products are tested to a wide range ofinternationally accepted approvals includingUnderwriters Laboratories (UL 162), EN-1568, ICAO,SOLAS, LASTFIRE and UK Defence Standard 42-40.

EnvironmentKerr Fire Fighting Chemicals operates a programmeto minimise the environmental impact that occursfrom the use of its foam concentrates from rawmaterials through the manufacturing process toproduct usage by the customer. All foamconcentrates are biodegradeable. Kerr Fire FightingChemicals is also pleased to confirm that all thefluorosurfactant chemicals used in these products aresourced from manufacturers using the telomerisationprocess which are free from any PFOS or PFOAmaterials.

StorageA long storage life is assured for all Kerr FireFighting Chemicals foam concentrates, whetherprotein or synthetic based. Specific storageinformation for each product is provided on thedata sheet.

Foam CompatibilityAll Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals foam concentratesare compatible for use along side other foamconcentrates during an emergency situation whenproduced through separate foam proportioningequipment. For specific handling conditions, pleaserefer to the relevant Material Safety Data Sheet(MSDS).

If the foam concentrate is required to be mixed inlong term storage with another reputable productof the same foam type, we recommend that ourtechnical assistance is sought to ensure the shelflife of our product is not compromised. Two foamconcentrates of differing foam types should never

be mixed together in the same storage tank, as thiswill result in stability problems and poor firefighting performance.

Types of WaterKerr Fire Fighting Chemicals’ foams are formulatedfor use with fresh water, sea and brackish water.

Powder CompatibilityKerr Fire Fighting Chemicals foam concentrates aresuitable for use with our wide range of foamcompatible dry powders. For specific informationregarding compatibility please contact us directly.

Technical SupportFull technical support is provided to cover adviceand assistance on the most suitable foams tochoose; application rates for specific fuels; testingof customer equipment and in-house foam sampletest facilities to monitor foam condition.

Quality ControlQuality assurance is paramount at Kerr FireFighting Chemicals. The manufacturing processesare monitored by a meticulous quality controlsystem ensuring conformity of raw materials, supported by regular in-process controls, inspections and testing. This high level of controlensures a consistently high quality of finishedproduct.

All manufacturing and laboratory operations areaccredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000.

PackingFoams from Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals arenormally packed in 20, 25, 200 or 210 litre plasticdrums. Bulk quantities are also available in 1000litre Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) oralternatively road tankers for European deliveries.
