Made using the “fabric of thread” method–

Synthetic hair is sandwiched between two pieces of water-soluble interlining. The layers are then stitched lengthwise to form the ‘warp’, then widthwise to form the ‘weft’. The swatch is then completed by dissolving the interlining in hot water, leaving only the hair and threads.

Effectively, this is a piece held together only by the threads that it is made up of..

TIES THAT BIND

The extravagant form of the hairpieces of the Long Horn Hmong is most faithfully replicated here as a statement about hair and its symbolism of abundance and wealth. Synthetic hair from wigs is used, to question feelings of the grotesque that are invoked by ‘disembodied’ hair as covering in today’s society, despite traditional practices of keeping human hair on the body.

This design is confident and sensual at the same time.

designed ‘fabric’ is made by interlacing hair with a cord like trimming to give it a formal and sophisticated feel. Similarly, since it is a weaving method, it is made and held together only by the few strands that give it its texture.

MILITIA

The black hair used here not only is elegant in its simplicity, but brings to mind the potency and connotations with virility that black hair has on traditional asian cultures.

This fabric is made with weaving a polyester trimming with a short bushy fringe, to replicate the texture of hair without using the actual material itself.

FRINGE

This draws reference to the traditional and simplistic forms of weaving, without compromising on its worthiness as a contemporary fabric.

Inspired by the appearance of hair in traditional contexts as a memento kept close to the body, its organic texture.

Interest– the juxtaposition of organic forms/materials with computer generated processes. A manisfestation of the writhing virility of natural substances such as hair, and the ordered, cold beauty of technology.

A collection inspired by hair, and its symbolism in Asianic cultures.

A fashion label for the thinking, new age individual, contemporary yet rooted to its traditional origins. Straddling between the definitions of Ready-to-Wear and Haute Couture, pushing boundaries of going over-the-top.

Dark, sophisticated, polished, gruesome yet romantic and beautiful.
