INTRODUCTION

The School of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 2007 from the mother school

of Pure and Applied Sciences. This was arrived at in line with the university expansion

programme and the current strategic plan.

The School constitutes of the following departments:

Civil Engineering

Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering

Energy Engineering

Computing and Information Technology

Water and Environmental Engineering

VISION

To be a dynamic, innovative, and competitive School in teaching, learning, research and

community service.

MISSION

To develop manpower and offer consultancy services in the fields of Energy, Electrical, Water and

Environmental, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software

development and construction management through training, teaching and research thus contributing to

the development of the country and realization of the country’s Vision 2030.

OBJECTIVES

The Objectives of the School are:

Promote high quality standard in teaching, research, consultancy and scholarship.

Develop manpower needs for Kenya and Other countries.

To provide professional skills in Research and Development of Technologies in different fields relat-

ed

to engineering

To produce enterprising Engineers who are professionally recognized by the Engineers

Registration Board (ERB) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).

Establish effective infrastructure and modern equipment.

To Develop and maintain community service and industrial partnerships.

B. Sc. Civil Engineering (5 years)

Mean grade of C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent

Mathematics - C (Plain)

English - C (Plain)

OR

Mean grade of C (Minus) at KCSE or equivalent

With Certificate in related field.

Mode of Study: Open Learning

Bachelor of Information Technology

Entry Requirement

Students wishing to purse the above undergraduate programme must satisfy the following:

The university common regulations

The candidate must have passed KCSE with a minimum grades in the subject indicated below

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent

Mathematics - C+

English - C+

OR

A distinction in Bridging Mathematics in KU

OR

Be a KACE certificate holder with a minimum of two (2) principal passes and one(1) subsidiary at A-Level:

Principal passes should be in;

Mathematics and Physics with credit pass in Mathematics in O-level

Accredited Diploma holders in IT or related fields from a recognized Institution with a credit pass may be

admitted into first year and acquire credit transfers for equivalent courses with credit grade at Diploma level.

Mode of study: Open Learning

MSc IT

The common regulations for master’s programmes in all Schools apply.

The general regulations for all master’s degrees in the School of Engineering and Technology

shall apply.

The following shall be eligible for registration for master of Science in Information Technology.

1. A holder of at least an upper second class honors:

2. A Bachelor of Science Degree in:

Computer Science

Information Technology

Computer Engineering

Software Engineering and other appropriate Bachelor of Science Degree in related areas with

specialization in any of the following:

a. Physics

b. Electronics

c. Mathematics

d. Telecommunications

e. Information Technology from Kenyatta University or any other University recognized

by the Senate.

3. Holders of Bachelors of Science degree lower second class division in the above stated areas will be

admitted provided they have two years experience in the Information Technology sector.

4. Holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems or related area from a

University recognized by Senate.

Upon successful completion of the course, the candidate shall be awarded an MSC in Information Technolo-

gy degree in one of the following specialization options:

Information Systems

Mobile Technologies

Telecommunications and Networks

Business Intelligence

Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department

Undergraduate Course

BSc Electrical and Electronics Engineering (5 years)
