OptixEQ 20201 Kentucky Derby Preps GP Race 11 - Holy Bull

GULFSTREAM PARK 01-30-2021 RACE 11

The Holy Bull (G3) has Derby points on the line and part of the OpJxEQ Road to the Derby race-of-the-day prep series. As shown on OpJxPLOT2020, the Surface and Distance PLOT shows a lot of horses are trying today’s distance for the first Jme. In fact only two runners have ever run at today’s 8.5 distance on the dirt.

#1 JIRAFALES comes into this race with a subpar MSW win at Gulfstream Park West. TOSS.

#2 WILLY BOI stretches out for the first Jme a[er two lower level sprint wins. No OpJxNOTES indicaJng stretching out or rouJng will be be]er. PLOTs as small to midsized circle. Pace factor, upgrade if the track is playing favorably to early pace runners.

#3 PAPETU overcame TROUBLE to run best OpJxFIG ever in a G3 stake over the track. PLOTs nicely the only concern here is the potenJal for regression off the big effort. His last OpJxFIG top set him back for awhile. He seems to relish running over today’s surface.

#4 AMOUNT just broke maiden in a race with a B+ typically indicaJng horse’s ability to handle a rise in class. The concern is his last race has come back very so[. Large SQUARE in a race with stretch out runners is probably a good thing.

#5 TARANTINO will try the dirt for the first Jme. He catches a pre]y so[ G3 group, but in his last two good turf efforts he benefit from good racing TACTICS.

#6 PRIME FACTOR earned a rare OpJxNOTES grade of A- in maiden score, however this is the first Jme facing winners and two turns so you do not want to take too short of a price.

#7 GREATEST HONOUR shows good OpJxFIG race to race progression. One of only two runners with two turn experience. He owns a massive OpJxPLOT SQUARE, but he is a closer so he is suscepJble to trip.

#8 SITTING ON GO comes off a layoff a[er showing some declining form in graded stakes company last fall. Those returning out of the Kentucky Jockey Club have not faired well in subsequent starts. On the plus side he has been freshened up, workouts look ok and he has two turn experience.

#9 AWESOME GERRY has shown good progression in one turn races. He gets deep post and style is to lay close. Other speed drawn inside. He either gets caught wide or works out good stalking trip.
