Fast and accurate results you can see - backed by the quantitative data to prove it.
Most particle analysers give you a distribution of particle size only. FlowCAM® is the imaging-based particle analyser that gives you over 30 different measurements for each particle, as quickly as the other systems give you only one size measurement, based on an assumption that all particles are spherical in shape.
While particle size distributions alone may be sufficient when looking at a uniform, homogenous sample of material, in the real world most samples that people want to analyze are heterogeneous and there is usually a need to find out the composition of the sample in terms of the amounts of each individual particle type contained in the mixture.
FlowCAM adds in particle shape (morphology) measurements as well as gray-scale measurements (transparency, intensity, etc.) and color information (optionally). All of these additional measurements can then be used by FlowCAM’s VisualSpreadsheet® software to automatically characterised different particle types in the sample.
The FlowCAM® is the first automated particle analysis instrument to use digital imaging for measuring size and shape of microscopic particles in a fluid medium. With industry-leading image quality combined with automated statistical pattern recognition software, the FlowCAM imaging particle analysis system is an important tool for detecting, identifying, and quantifying microscopic particles in a variety of applications.

HOW IMAGING PARTICLE ANALYSIS WORKSThe FlowCAM imaging particle analysis system contains three core technologies: optics, electronics and fluidics.
The fluidics system uses an ultra-high-precision computer controlled syringe pump to pull the fluid sample through a flow cell perpendicular to the optical path.
The optical system is similar to a microscope, and is used to capture real-time images of the particles in the fluid as they pass through the flow cell. Additional optional electronics can also capture two channels of fluorescence information per particle.
The FlowCAM VS benchtop model is ideally suited to a typical laboratory environment. The flexibility of the FlowCAM VS allows you to optimise the system for counting and sizing, superior image quality, and morphology characterisation. Available in four models, from the imaging-only VS-I to the top-of-the-line VS-IV with two channels of fluorescence measurement and scatter trigger capabilities. Each system is fully upgradeable to meet your changing needs and technology improvements.
VISUAL SPREADSHEETTurn data into insight with the powerful VisualSpreadsheet® Particle Analysis Software.
VisualSpreadsheet® gives you the ability to sort and filter actual images, improving on other systems that only allow you to sort and filter rows of numeric data. Ultimately this gives you a more in-depth analysis of your sample and a better understanding of your data.
The VisualSpreadsheet® Difference
• Sort and filter particle data based upon criteria you supply - the results are displayed immediately as particle images instead of numbers
• Accomplish complex particle filtering in seconds with immediate visual feedback. Immediately find and display all similar-type particles in a heterogeneous sample with sophisticated pattern recognition capabilities
• Create and save defined particle type libraries• Captures over 30 unique particle measurements including basic shapes, morphology and gray-scale and color
measurements
Go beyond particle size with FlowCAM.

The Laboratory Charge Analyser (LCA) is an essential coagulation optimisation tool for the water treatment professional. The LCA allows the user to determine the ideal coagulant dosage needed to achieve optimum NTU and TOC reduction in less than 5 minutes typically, earning it the moniker “5 minute jar tester”. The process of finding the optimum dosage simply involves feeding in a measured volume of coagulant into the raw water sample until the reading on the LCA indicates complete charge neutralisation has been obtained. Some pH adjustment may be required to achieve accurate test results. An option for pH measurement allows the user to also quickly determine the dosage rate of additives like lime or caustic when needed to raise the coagulation pH of low alkalinity waters. Titration of the coagulant and pH adjustment additives can be performed manually using the LCA-1, or with the touch of a button using the auto-titration features that come standard on models LCA-2 and LCA-3. The automatic titration feature further simplifies the testing process and helps ensure the most accurate results possible.
Benefits
• Quickly determine optimum dosage of coagulant needed to achieve charge neutralisation and optimise NTU and TOC removal
• Great for assessing minimum dosage of base needed to raise pH in low alkalinity waters to optimise coagulation
• Large sample size and magnetic stirrer ensures accurate results

INDUSTRIAL TOMOGRAPHY SYSTEMS
SEE INSIDE YOUR PROCESSKenelec Scientific is proud to represent the ITS range of products in the Australian market. Industrial Tomography Systems plc (ITS) is a world leader in process tomography. The company provides a range of electrical based tomography systems for research and process applications. These systems are unique – designed around patented technologies, expertise and in-depth knowledge built up over more than 12 years of experience and numerous industrial applications. Instrumentation, software and sensors from ITS are used to characterise a wide range of multiphase processes including mixing, separation, flow and reactions. ITS uses two distinct technologies to see what is taking place inside your process. Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) and Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT).
Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT)
The basic principles of electrical resistance tomography (ERT) are to take multiple measurements at the periphery of a process vessel or pipeline and combine these to provide information on the electrical properties of the process volume. ERT is applied to visualise multiphase unit processes to develop understanding; optimise performance and provide a basis of control. The most common processes relate to mixing, separation, flow and reactions.
An ITS electrical resistance tomography system consists of:
• Sensor Array These are a set of electrodes grouped in measurement channels, each of which delivers a cross-sectional image
• Instrument ITS provides two main instrument platforms, p2+ which is robust, operates up to 8 measurement planes and highly configurable and the v5r which operates 2 measurement planes at high speeds
• Software This provides three functions. Firstly it configures the instrument to fit the process conditions; secondly it analyses raw voltage measurements using inverse algorithms to provide a conductivity map; thirdly it has built in tools to allow analysis and export of tomographic data
Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT)
The basic principles of electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) are to take multiple measurements at the periphery of a process vessel or pipeline and combine these to provide information on the electrical properties of the process volume. ECT is applied to visualise multiphase unit processes to develop understanding; optimise performance and provide a basis of control. The most common processes relate to multi-phase flows and fluidised beds.
An ITS electrical capacitance tomography system consists of
• Sensor Array These are a set of electrodes grouped in measurement channels, each of which delivers a cross-sectional image
• Instrument The ITS main ECT instrument platforms is the m3c which operates 1, 2 or 3 measurement planes
• Software This provides three functions. Firstly it configures the instrument to fit the process conditions; secondly it analyses raw voltage measurements using inverse algorithms to provide a conductivity map; thirdly it has built in tools to allow analysis and export of tomographic data

INDUSTRIAL TOMOGRAPHY SYSTEMS
The P2+ ERT unit is a robust system that offers new and improved capabilities for research and industrial processes. The instrument operates by taking data from an array of 16 electrodes in contact with the process media. These are either mounted on a baffle / dip-pipe or around the circumference of the pipe or vessel. These data are processed to provide a conductivity map of the sensing zone. Supplied to customers all round the world (with installations at NASA to subsea operation and customers in each major continent), it has been designed and developed by ITS based on expertise in process tomography and improved over the years in performance and functionality drawn from customer feedback. In contrast to many systems-based measurement techniques, tomography sensors are able to rapidly sense throughout a volume. Thus providing a dynamic picture of what is going on inside a pipe or vessel, e.g. whether a system is homogeneous.
General Features
• Single modality (ERT) • The instrument can be provided in 2 sizes - compact (1 or 2 planes) and full
(expandable up to 8 planes) • Units can be supplied as rack mounted to be fitted in cabinets and enclosures
or as free standing units for laboratory use• Intrinsically safe module certified to EEx ia II C T6, available to operate linear
and circular tomo-graphy systems in a hazardous environment
Applications
Batch mixing, CFD Validation, Crystallisation, Filtration, Fluidised Beds, Hydrocyclones, Hydrogenation, Inline Mixing, Level Detection, Multiphase Flow, Packed beds, Polymerisation, Scale Up
The v5r is the newest ERT instrument from ITS and is suitable for a wide range of research applications. The instrument operates by taking data from an array of 32 electrodes which can be non-intrusive. Developed in collaboration with Leeds University and supported by the Technology Strategy Board, the v5r is a simple to use, high performance device, based on a new voltage-voltage measurement technique. This means that the instrument is able to respond to changing process environments, optimising its performance without the need for re-calibration, and has the added benefit of delivering a much wider performance envelope, thereby producing high quality data in large vessels (diameters over 4m) or highly conducting media (brine and other highly ionic substrates).
General Features
• Single modality (ERT) • Max number of electrodes – 2 x 16 arranged in 1 and 2 planes
Applications
Multiphase flow characterisation, CFD Validation, Filtration, Fluidised Beds, Packed Beds, Pneumatic Conveying, Extrusion
The m3c is ITS’s ECT instrument and is suitable for a wide range of research applications. The instrument operates by taking data from an array of 12 electrodes which can be non-intrusive. Supplied to customers all round the world with customers in each major continent, it has been designed and developed by ITS based on expertise in process tomography and improved over the years in performance and functionality drawn from customer feedback. The m3c primary operation is electrical capacitance tomography, although real and imaginary measurements can be taken.
