The PM LINE is comprisedof DC operated permanent-magnet single-surface bra-kes characterised by the factthat the braking effect is pro-duced by a permanent-magnetic field (electroma-gnetically released system).This means that the requiredbraking force is generatedwhen voltage is removed. Inorder to neutralise the bra-king effect, the permanent-magnetic field is counterac-ted by an opposing electro-magnetic field.PM LINE brakes ensurereliable brake release withzero residual torque in anymounting position and zerobacklash during torquetransmission.
These brakes are especiallysuitable for servo motorapplications.

The information provided in theoperating instructions must bestrictly adheared to whendesigning a machine (e.g. motor) and when usingthe brakes. The brakes aremanufactured and tested incompliance with DIN VDE 0580requirements. The insulationmaterials used conform withthermal class F norms. Thespecified times apply to thefollowing conditions: seperateswitching of the brake, opera-ting temperature, rated voltage,and rated air gap. All values aremean values that are subject to
variation. In the case of ACbrake switching, the couplingtime t1 is substantially longer.Wmax (maximum switchingenergy) is the switching energythat must not be exceededduring braking operations atmax. 3000 rpm. Braking opera-tions at >3000 rpm lead to asubstantial reduction in themaximum admissible switchingenergy per switching operation.Such operation is only permit-ted after prior consultation withthe manufacturer. The maxi-mum switching power Pmax isthe switching energy W thatcan be converted by the brakeper hour. The permitted numberof switching operations Z
(emergency stops) per hourand the max. permitted swit-ching energy Wmax resultingtherefrom are specified in thetable included in the operatinginstructions. If the brake isused for other applications,e.g. as service brake, the dia-gram (Wmax as a function of thenumber of switching operationsper hour Z) shown in the ope-rating instructions applies. ThePmax and Wmax values areapproximate values; they applyto applications where the brakeis attached to or built into themotor without additional coo-ling as well as to emergencystops. The specified transmissi-ble torques M4 characterises
the torque level of the brakes.Depending on the applicationof the brake, the switching tor-que M1 and the effective trans-missible torque M4 may differfrom the specified M4 values.The switching torque M1depends on the speed (rpm). Ifthe friction surfaces are conta-minated with oil, grease or dirtthe transferable torque M4 andthe switching torque M1 maydrop.
All technical data is subject tothe running-in conditions spe-cified by the manufacturerbeing observed.
Upon request, the brake can be supplied with customer-specific fitting dimensions and torques.
