Ken Dubrowski SketchbookI sketch a lot for my job. I tend to draw on any loose scrap paper I can find which drives my wife crazy. On any given day I have reams of scrap paper all over my drawing table and floor. In time, I have collected enough sketches to fill many boxes.

This collection is of my favorite and some of my less successful sketches.

I put this book together mostly to show the thought process that goes into an illustration and to give the viewer some history about the work. But really it gives me a chance to see them in a new way as some type of collection.

Some of these sketches did indeed became the illustration as it appeared in a magazine. Some thankfully never saw the light of day and some I wish were chosen over the one that went to press. After twenty years of doing this as a career, the selection seems entirely subjective.

But now, I get a chance to present them in a whole new light.

Thanks, Ken

And away we go...

The rejected sketch page...

I do a lot of illustration work for financial publications. One theme in many of these publications is growth...

...Another is renewed hope

Finding, searching and looking concepts.

These sketches were approved instantly with no changes. A feat that does not happen all the time...

Paper jams.

I drew these two pieces almost ten years apart and I thought it funny at how similar they were in theme.

I needed to come up with an idea for achieving success to get your message out.None of these made it past this stage...

Two versions for an article about waiting for investments to clear the "foam". I really wanted to draw the one on the right...

More ideas that never made it past the sketch phase about banks offering new multiple investment options. These ideas went through so many revisions that I could fill a book...Hey wait a minute...

Sketches for an article on pilots starting at a very young age. I liked the one on the left. They liked the one on the right

Red tape, rocks, and maps. Says it all doesn't it.

Two sketches for the same story. Still not sure why the angel on the right is wearing catchers gear...

You have your good days...

...And then your bad ones.

I just liked these as sketches when I did them, so they get included.

Sketches for article about a physician who had visions during his heart surgery.
