School Athletics CarnivalAnother successful carnival was held last Monday. The students had a go and were very proud of their efforts, often were keen to discuss how much they had improved form the previous year. Thank you to Mrs Carr and Miss Scott for organising this event. Everything ran smoothly allowing enough time for the shuttle relay. Thank you to not only the teachers who assisted in making the carnival run smoothly but also the teacher at school were rearranged timetables, covered additional duties and took extra students in their classes to support this day.

Mother’s Day Morning TeaThank you to those mums who were able to join us for a beautiful morning tea yesterday on the front lawn. Thank you also to Mrs Smith for co-ordinating the stunning set up, food and beverages to ensure this was a delightful garden party for all. We would like to wish all of our mums a very Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.

University of NSW ICAS CompetitionsOur school, like many others in our area, have supported the University of New South Wales ICAS assessment program for many years. Up until last year, the assessments – including reading, writing, mathematics and spelling - have been pen and paper tests. Like most schools, our school conducted the assessments before school, supervised by teachers outside of teaching hours. Whilst the results of the assessments provided interesting information, we did not use the analytics of the results to inform teaching practice; the data provided by ICAS is not directly linked to school-based teaching and learning programs. Parents and students appeared to enjoy receiving the certificates and other associated awards, however, it should be noted that the results/awards have never been used as part of OC/selective high school application processes. Late last year, schools were informed by ICAS that the new testing program would be administered via an on-line tool, which can only be facilitated within schools. Whilst we accept that on-line testing is a feature of the way we operate in schools, the logistics associated with ICAS going on-line is highly problematic, particularly for schools which have traditionally had high levels of participation. This information has been relayed to ICAS, however, there have been no decisions to provide a pen/paper option for 2019. Our school will not participate in 2019 ICAS. Whilst this is disappointing, I want to assure all parents that students will not be disadvantaged. The ICAS results, as mentioned above, have never been used to determine academic progress nor have the results been used as part of OC/Selective High School applications. It should be noted, that many of the larger primary schools in our area that have supported ICAS in the past have also opted not to participate this year.

NAPLANDuring the next two weeks students in Years 3 and 5 will sit the paper version of NAPLAN. NAPLAN is an assessment that all students across Australia sit in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN is a one off assessment that can provide valuable information to a school to identify areas or strength or improvement. For individuals it can also provide great insight in to their progress. However, these results need to factor in with a range of other information and the best source is your child’s classroom teacher. Teachers know the students extremely well and tailor the learning in the classroom to suit the individual’s needs. As always please feel free to contact your child’s teacher to discuss their academic progress. To assist your child with NAPLAN please ensure they get a good night’s sleep, eat nutritional food, encourage them to do their best and emphasise that these results will not affect their future. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or one of the Assistant Principals on Stages 2 or 3.Earn and Learn

We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program. During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you. From now until June 25, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect place in the collection box at school in the front office. The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from

a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including Mathematics and English resources, art & crafts, technological materials and much, much more! We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program.School UniformsTerm 2 generally means that most students will begin to wear their winter uniform. For the first two weeks I am happy for students to wear either the summer or winter uniform depending on the weather. This will allow them to be comfortable throughout the day. From week 3 all students will be expected to be in their winter uniform. Please make sure all items of clothing and equipment your child bring to school is clearly labelled. Thank you in advance for this matter.StaffingWe farewelled Mr Niski last week and welcome Miss Georga Broom who will now teach 4B. 4N will now be known as 4B in recognition of this change.I would like to welcome Mrs Eloise Goodhew, Mrs Josephine Chan and Mrs Joanna Williams, to our School Administrative Support Team and to the Kellyville Ridge Public School family. I know that they will feel very welcome by our wonderful community.

Don’t forget every day to remind your children how special they are and how much you love them.Mrs Rhonda Gosman - Principal

IN THE NEWS AT KELLYVILLE RIDGE NSW Netball Cup

On Wednesday, 8th May, our school was admirably represented by a Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 mixed netball team, who contested Phase 1 of the NSW Netball Schools Cup at Baulkham Hills Association Netball Courts. Throughout the day these netballers displayed talent, teamwork and tenacity! The Year 3/4 team had a very successful day, with them finishing undefeated and only conceding 3 goals throughout the entire tournament! A very impressive result, considering some of these players had not played netball before. The Year 5/6 team convincingly won 2 of their games during the day and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, encouragement of their teammates and improvement. Thank you to all our supporters who transported their children to the carnival and cheered them on during the day! We appreciated your involvement in your children’s pursuits. Mrs Carr and Mrs Dowling

Dance CampLast week, Georgie and Darcy from 6G attended “Dance Off”, a three day camp in Kurrajong. Georgie and Darcy are in the Senior Dance group and have shown their dedication and creativity to dance programs at KRPS for a number of years. Both girls should be proud of their achievements. Miss ShieldsWe were able to choose 4 styles which were tap, ballet, drama and glee. Georgie chose ballet and Darcy chose tap. Darcy’s favourite part was learning Natasha Crane’s choreography and Georgie’s favourite part was learning Marko Panzic’s JFH choreography. We also loved that on Friday we got to showcase all the dances we had been learning. Our family and friends were invited to this showcase and we really enjoyed performing for them. We’d like to thank Mrs Gosman for allowing us to have this experience! By Georgie and Darcy

Coding With Mr Easton

Years 3-6 are currently coding using the Micro:bit inventor kits with Mr Easton. The children code on the Mac laptops to make a visual representation on a separate LED screen.
