KEEPERS RETREAT “We had actually come to the village to view another property but as we drove past this one, we thought it looked like a lovely home, so we stopped and came in for a look around. We were completely taken aback by the dining hall and central staircase leading to the galleried landing and we wrote a cheque for the deposit there and then. Ground FloorThe ground floor has double entrance doors that open into a large dining hall which has a ceramic tiled floor and a grand oak staircase that leads to the galleried landing. From here, there are double doors either side of the hallway that lead to the drawing room and sitting room. The drawing room has a feature fireplace with stone surround, a double glazed small paned window to the front aspect, wall light points, discreetly hidden ceiling speakers and double-glazed doors that lead to the rear terrace. The sitting room is situated in the stone built part of the building and has leaded double glazed stone mullion windows to the front, there is a corner fireplace with exposed brick built surround and raised hearth with log burner. “The dining hall and staircase have been a real focal point of our 14 years here. Our guests often end up chatting comfortably on the stairs at dinner parties and they’ve also been the scene of plenty of fun, family photographs of us all. We can easily accommodate up to 12 guests around the table and it’s been a really fabulous space which we use all year round.”

“Flecknoe is a lovely village and we’ve been made to feel so welcome. The pub is well used by the locals and serves good traditional food and I never feel uncomfortable if I pop in by myself when my husband is away. The pub and the village hall are at the heart of the village and there is plenty to get involved in, including skittles, sports days, firework displays, big breakfasts and BBQs. There are lots of lovely walks right on our doorstep and I enjoy walking the dogs along the numerous bridleways and footpaths.”

“The garden looks out onto the cricket field behind us and it gives a lovely feeling of space. We like to sit outside in the summer with a glass of prosecco, just relaxing and watching a gentle game of cricket. I’ve seen deer and woodpeckers and, when the dogs allow it, the squirrels often run along the fence to eat the berries off the trees.”

Flecknoe is an extremely friendly quiet hilltop village with the ‘The Old Olive Bush’ public house which has three skittles teams and a weekly pub quiz. There is a wonderful community spirit with several village events including a produce show, harvest supper and auction, as well as progressive suppers allowing new inhabitants to get to know the locals. It also has a church and a refurbished village hall. Day-to-day shopping can be found in nearby Braunston, or Dunchurch. A wider range of shopping facilities can be found in Rugby, Daventry or Leamington Spa and a high speed Virgin train service leaves from Rugby to London, Euston arriving in well under 50 minutes. The property is a 40 minute drive away from Milton Keynes and has good access to the M1, M6, M40 and the M45 as well as fast rail links into London. There are a good range of state, grammar and private schools within the area including Bilton Grange, Rugby School, Lawrence Sheriff School for boys and Rugby High School for girls, Warwick School for boys.
