Gateway Foundation Scholarships for Continuing Students

What are Foundation Scholarships?

• A financial award
• Scholarships Range from $250 to $2,000
• Can be used for Gateway tuition, books and fees
Who can apply?
• Gateway students who– Have completed at least 6 credits; – Have a GPA of at least 2.0– Are enrolled in at least 6 credits (a few
scholarships require 3 credits)

How do you apply?
• Students complete an online application once per year
• The application period is from August 31 to October 5, 2015
• The application is located at www.gtc.edu/foundationscholarships

What will I be asked?
• Information about you
• Activities and experiences in your life
• What lead you to study in your field
• If you have financial need, describe it
• Name(s) and email(s) of at least one reference

How long will it take me to apply?
• Typically takes 1-2 hours to complete the application
• You can work on your application over time
• Write your short answers in MS Word, then cut and paste the text into the application

How can I increase my chances of earning a scholarship?
• Complete the application
• Talk with your references and make sure you
have their correct email address
• Take the time to answer the short answer

What about those letters of reference?
• You will increase your chances of earning a scholarship if you have more than one letter of reference.
• Folks who make good references for a scholarship are:– Gateway Faculty & Staff– Work Supervisor– Clergy member or leader in the community

What about those letters of reference?
• Some scholarships require different types of references like:– Gateway Faculty in Program Area– Someone who can address your leadership qualities– Someone who can address your mentoring abilities– Someone outside of Gateway like a leader in your
community or work supervisor• If you are in the nursing program, a clinical instructor• If you are a student with special needs, a member of
