Exposure to radiofrequency energyRadio wave exposure and SpecificAbsorption Rate (SAR) information

This mobile phone model KE970 has beendesigned to comply with applicable safetyrequirements for exposure to radio waves.This requirement is based on scientificguidelines that include safety marginsdesigned to assure the safety of allpersons, regardless of age and health.

v The radio wave exposure guidelinesemploy a unit of measurement knownas the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR.Tests for SAR are conducted usingstandardised methods with the phonetransmitting at its highest certifiedpower level in all used frequency bands.

v While there may be differencesbetween the SAR levels of various LGphone models, they are all designed tomeet the relevant guidelines forexposure to radio waves.

v The SAR limit recommended by theInternational Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is2W/kg averaged over ten (10) gram oftissue.

v The highest SAR value for this modelphone tested by DASY4 for use at theear is 0.443(stainless case) or0.417(aluminum case) W/kg (10g) andwhen worn on the body is0.245(stainless case) or 0.483(aluminumcase) W/kg (10g).

v SAR data information for residents incountries/regions that have adopted theSAR limit recommended by the Instituteof Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE), which is 1.6 W/kg averaged overone (1) gram of tissue (for example USA,Canada, Australia and Taiwan).

v Do not use your mobile phone nearmedical equipment without requestingpermission. Avoid placing the phoneover pacemakers (i.e. in your breastpocket.)

Avoid damage to yourhearingDamage to your hearing can occur if youare exposed to loud sound for long periodsof time. We therefore recommend that youdo not turn on or off the handset close toyour ear. We also recommend that musicand call volumes are set to a reasonablelevel.

Blasting areaDo not use the phone where blasting is inprogress. Observe restrictions, and followany regulations or rules.

Emergency callsEmergency calls may not be availableunder all mobile networks. Therefore, youshould never depend solely on your mobilephone for emergency calls. Check withyour local service provider.

Battery information andcarev You do not need to completely

discharge the battery before recharging.Unlike other battery systems, there is nomemory effect that could compromisethe battery’s performance.

v Use only LG batteries and chargers. LGchargers are designed to maximize thebattery life.

v Do not disassemble or short-circuit thebattery pack.

v Keep the metal contacts of the batterypack clean.

v Replace the battery when it no longerprovides acceptable performance. Thebattery pack may be rechargedhundreds of times until it needsreplacing.

v Recharge the battery if it has not beenused for a long time to maximizeusability.

v Do not expose the battery charger todirect sunlight or use it in high humidity,such as the bathroom.

Please refer to this signal as anindicator for your calls. When thereare no bars, that means that thereis no network coverage: in thiscase, you won’t be able to accessthe network for any service (call,messages and so on).

Installing the SIM cardand the handset batteryMake sure the power is off before youremove the SIM card or battery.

1. Remove the battery.

Press and hold down the battery releasebutton and lift off the battery cover. Turnthe phone up-side down, as shown, thenlift up the battery with your fingers andpull-out the battery.

2. Install the SIM card.

Insert and slide the SIM card into theSIM card holder. Make sure that theSIM card is inserted properly and thatthe gold contact area on the card isfacing downwards. To remove the SIMcard, press down lightly and pull it in thereverse direction.

3. Install the battery.

Insert the the battery into the batterycompartment as metal contacts meet inthe middle of the phone.Push down the top of the battery until itsnaps into place. Place the battery coverto the phone as shown.

WARNING! • Do not replace or remove the SIM

card while your phone is beingused or turned on, or data may belost or the SIM card might bedamaged.

v The metal contact of the SIM cardcan be easily damaged byscratches. Pay special attention tothe SIM card while handling.Follow the instructions suppliedwith the SIM card.

Charging the BatteryBefore connecting the travel adapter to thephone you must first install the battery.

1. Ensure the battery is fully chargedbefore using the phone for the first time.

2. With the arrow facing you as shown inthe diagram push the plug on the batteryadapter into the socket on the side ofthe phone until it clicks into place.

3. Connect the other end of the traveladapter to the mains socket. Use onlythe charger included in the box.

4. The moving bars of battery icon will stopafter charging is complete.

CAUTION! • If the battery is completely

discharged, the charging displaywill appear on the LCDapproximately 1 to 1.5 minutes afterconnecting TA.

• Do not force the connector as thismay damage the phone and/or thetravel adapter.

• Insert the battery pack chargervertically to wall power outlet.

• If you use the battery pack chargerout of your own country, use anattachment plug adaptor for theproper configuration.

• Do not remove your battery or theSIM card while charging.

Disconnecting thechargerDisconnect the charger from the phone bypulling the connector, not the cord.

WARNING! • Unplug the charger during lightning

storms to avoid electric shock orfire.

• Make sure that no sharp-edgeditems, such as animal teeth or nails,come into contact with the battery.There is a risk of this causing a fire.

Inserting the memory cardInsert the memory card into the slot untilthe memory card is fully inserted into theslot, as shown in the figure below:

Removing the memorycardCarefully remove the memory card out ofthe soket, as shown in the figure below:

WarningDo not replace or remove the memorycard while your phone is on, or datacould be lost and the memory cardmight be damaged.

Making a Call1. Make sure your phone is powered on.

2. Enter a phone number including the areacode.To edit a number on the display screen,simply press the key to erase onedigit at a time.

v Press and hold the key to erasethe entire number.

3. Press the key to call.

4. When you want to finish, press thekey.

Making a Call by Send Key1. Press the key, and the most recent

incoming, outgoing and missed phonenumbers will be displayed.

2. Select the desired number by using thenavigation key.

3. Press the key.

Making International Calls1. Press and hold the key for the

international prefix. The ‘+’ charactercan be replaced with the internationalaccess code.

2. Enter the country code, area code, andthe phone number.

3. Press the key.

Ending a CallWhen you have finished a call, press the

key.

Making a Call From the Contact listYou can store names and phone numbersdialled frequently in the SIM card as wellas the phone memory known as theContact list.

You can dial a number by simply lookingup a name in the contact list.

Adjusting the VolumeDuring a call, if you want to adjust theearpiece volume, use the side keys of thephone.

In idle mode, you can adjust the keyvolume using the side keys.

Answering a CallWhen you receive a call, the phone ringsand the flashing phone icon appears onthe screen. If the caller can be identified,the caller’s phone number (or name/photoif stored in your Address Book) isdisplayed.

1. Slide up and press the key or theleft soft key to answer an incoming call.If the Any Key menu option (Menu9.5.2), has been set to any key press willanswer a call except for the key orthe right soft key.

2. End the call by closing the phone orpressing the key.

Signal StrengthIf you are inside a building, being near awindow may give you better reception.You can see the strength of your signal bythe signal indicator ( ) on yourphone’s display screen.

v You can answer a call while usingthe Address Book or other menufeatures. If the phone is connectedto a PC via USB cable, incomingcalls will be rejected, but afterdisconnecting the phone from thePC you will see a Missed callwindow.

Entering TextYou can enter alphanumeric characters byusing the phone’s keypad. For example,storing names in the Address Book, writinga message, creating scheduling events inthe calendar all require entering text. Thefollowing text input methods are availablein the phone.

T9 ModeThis mode allows you to enter words withonly one keystroke per letter. Each key onthe keypad has more than one letter. TheT9 mode automatically compares yourkeystrokes with an internal linguisticdictionary to determine the correct word,thus requiring far fewer keystrokes thanthe traditional ABC mode.

ABC ModeThis mode allows you to enter letters bypressing the key labeled with the requiredletter once, twice, three or four times untilthe letter is displayed.

123 Mode (Numbers Mode)Type numbers using one keystroke pernumber. To change to 123 mode in a textentry field, press key until 123 modeis displayed.

Your phone provides a number of controlfunctions that you can use during a call. Toaccess these functions during a call, pressthe left soft key [Options].

During a CallThe menu displayed on the handset screenduring a call is different than the defaultmain menu displayed when in idle screen,and the options are described below.

Making a Second Call (Network Dependent)You can get a number you wish to dialfrom the Address Book to make a secondcall.

Swapping Between Two CallsTo switch between two calls, press key or the left soft key, and then selectSwap Call.

Answering an Incoming CallTo answer an incoming call when thehandset is ringing, simply press the key. The handset is also able to warn youof an incoming call while you are alreadyon a call. A tone sounds in the earpiece,and the display will show that a secondcall is waiting.

This feature, known as Call waiting, is onlyavailable if your network supports it. Fordetails of how to activate and deactivate itsee Call waiting (Menu 9.5.4).

If Call Waiting is on, you can put the firstcall on hold and answer the second, bypressing the left soft key .

Rejecting an Incoming CallYou can reject an incoming call withoutanswering by simply pressing the key.

Muting the MicrophoneYou can mute the microphone during a callby pressing the [Mute] key. The handsetcan be unmuted by pressing the [Unmute].When the handset is muted, the callercannot hear you, but you can still hearthem.

DTMF tones while callingTo switch on DTMF tones while calling(e.g. to use the phone with an automaticswitchboard) press the key [Options]followed by Send DTMF on. Select DTMFoff to disable DTMF tones. DTMF tonesare normally on.

Conference CallsThe conference service provides you withthe ability to have a simultaneousconversation with more than one caller, ifyour network service provider supports thisfeature. A conference call can only be setup when you have one active call and onecall on hold, both calls having beenanswered.

Once a conference call is set up, calls maybe added, disconnected or separated (thatis, removed from the conference call butstill connected to you) by the person whoset up the conference call. These optionsare all available from the In-Call menu. Themaximum callers in a conference call arefive. Once started, you are in control of theconference call, and only you can add callsto the conference call.

Making a Second CallYou can make a second call whilecurrently on a call. Enter the secondnumber and press the .

When the second call is connected, thefirst call is automatically placed on hold.You can swap between calls, by pressingthe key.

Setting Up a Conference CallTo set up a conference call, place one callon hold and while the active call is on,press the left soft key and then select theJoin menu of Conference call.

Activate the Conference Call onHoldTo activate a conference call on hold,press the key. Alternatively press theleft soft key [Options] and select Joinall/Hold all calls. Other users on hold willstay connected. To return to conferencecall mode, press the left soft key [Options] followed by Conference call.

Adding Calls to the Conference CallTo add a call to an existing conferencecall, press the left soft key, and then selectthe Join menu of Conference call.

Private Call in a Conference CallTo have a private call with one caller froma conference call, display the number ofthe caller you wish to talk to on the screen,then press the left soft key. Select thePrivate menu of Conference call to put allthe other callers on hold.

In Profiles, you can adjust and customisethe phone tones for different events,environments, or caller groups.

There are five preset profiles: General,Silent, Vibrate only, Outdoor andHeadset.

Each profile can be personalised. Press theleft soft key [Menu] and select Profilesusing up/down navigation keys.

Activate (Menu 1.X.1)

1. A list of profiles is displayed.

2. In the Profiles list, scroll to the profileyou want to activate and press the leftsoft key [OK] or OK key.

3. Then, select Activate.

Personalise (Menu 1.X.2)

Scroll to the desired profile in the Profilelist. After pressing the left soft key orthe OK key, select Personalise.

The profile setting option opens. Set theoption as required.

You can access various WAP (WirelessApplication Protocol) services such asbanking, news, weather reports and flightinformation. These services are speciallydesigned for mobile phones and they aremaintained by WAP service providers.

Check the availability of WAP services,pricing and tariffs with your networkoperator and/or the service providerwhose service you wish to use. Serviceproviders will also give you instructions onhow to use their services.

Once connected, the homepage isdisplayed. The content depends on theservice provider. To exit the browser at anytime, press the ( ) key. The phone willreturn to the idle menu.

New message Menu 5.1

This menu includes functions related toSMS (Short Message Service), MMS(Multimedia Message Service), Email,voice mail, as well as the network’sservice messages.

Text (Menu 5.1.1)

You can write and edit text message.

1. Enter the New messages menu bypressing the left soft key [OK].

2. If you want to write a new message,select Text.

3. To make text input easier, use T9.

To send/receive an email, you should setup the email account.

1. You can input up to 20 email addressesin the To and Cc field.

Inbox Menu 5.2

You will be alerted when you havereceived messages. They will be stored inInbox.

If the phone shows ‘No space for SIMmessage’, you have to delete only SIMmessages from Inbox. If the phonedisplays ‘No space for message’, you canmake space of each repository as deletingmessages, media and applications.

* SIM message

SIM message means the messageexceptionally stored in SIM card. Youcan move this message to the phone.

For notified multimedia message, you haveto wait for downloading and processing ofthe message.

To read a message, select one of themessages by pressing the left soft key

v View: You can view the receivedmessages.

v For each e-mail account you maysave up to 40 messages (totally200 for five accounts). v Message types:

Usually, the type of message is set toText. You can convert your text intoalternative formats. Contact your serviceprovider for the availability of thisfunction.

v Validity period: This network serviceallows you to set how long yourmessages will be stored at the messagecentre.

v Delivery report: If you set to Yes, youcan check whether your message is sentsuccessfully.

Alarm clock Menu 8.1

You can set the alarm clock to go off at aspecified time.

1. Select On and enter the alarm time youwant.

2. Select the repeat period: Once, Mon-Fri,Mon-Sat, Sat-Wed, Sat-Thu, Everyday.

3. Select the alarm tone you want andpress [Set].

Calendar Menu 8.2

When you enter this menu a calendar willshow up. On top of the screen there aresections for date. Whenever you changethe date, the calendar will be updatedaccording to the date. Security Menu 9.6

PIN code request (Menu 9.6.1)

In this menu, you can set the phone to askfor the PIN code of your SIM card whenthe phone is switched on.

If this function is activated, you’ll berequested to enter the PIN code.

1. Select PIN code request in the securitysettings menu, and then press [OK].

2. Set On/Off.

3. If you want to change the setting, youneed to enter PIN code when you switchon the phone.

4. If you enter wrong PIN code more than 3times, the phone will lock out. If the PINis blocked, you will need to key in PUKcode.

5. You can enter your PUK code up to 10times. If you put wrong PUK code morethan 10 times, you can not unlock yourphone. You will need to contact yourservice provider.
