The broad business orientation towards various areas of machine building and systems gives KEB a deep insight view into market needs and trends. In the past this was mainly based on drive solutions, where KEB today offers a wide range of products and supply to important brands in the world.

The development is driven by technical standards, where IPC technology and fast Ethernet communication via EtherCAT are core elements. Karl-Ernst Brinkmann started his own success story with six employees. Based on continuous growth, KEB has developed into a medium sized company with 1,200 employees. The KEB solution is a modern approach to the technology. Using only one patch cable you reach the entire devices available

on the network (local or remote).

Within KEB product portfolio there are not border between hardware and software.

The engine which runs the visualisation, the motion controller and the remote maintenance can be located everywhere you have a KEB

hardware product based on Win CE or Win 32/64.

The hardware choice is a consequence of the assigned task and the user is free to decide to have all in one device, and decide to use a

panel or a box connected to a KEB Monitor or decide to decentralize the kernel parts on different products to reach the maximum

performance.

The C6 HMI was designed using the latest graphic and communication technologies typically found in modern day smart devices such as tablets and smartphones. As a result, the C6 HMI provides the user a high quality Human Machine Interface experience while providing the user a competitive “right-price” edge.

“Right-price” does not mean the C6 HMI wasn’t designed for an industrial environment! The front bezel is aluminum and meets IP66/Nema 4X Indoor ratings. There are no moving parts: no fans, no hard drives. A fanless cooling design and flash mass storage maximize reliability.

Windows Embedded Compact 7 PRO in combination with COMBIVIS studio HMI Runtime (pre-installed on 256MB NAND-FLASH) makes the C6 HMI a power device supporting the latest XAML technologies like Windows Presentation Foundation and Silverlight for an attractive and functional user interface. Additional benefits for the user can be had with functionality such as web server, networking, database, historical trending, CFR21 and others.

Together with the KEB driver for CPU and drive, the C6 HMI supports a wide range of standards and third parties protocols. Based on Ethernet physical layer 2 and RS232/422/485, integrating with existing systems is easy. MPI protocol is also supported up to 187 Kbps when using a serial port/MPI adapter cable.

Bypass the typical remote access headaches of firewalls, VPNs and IT department involvement with COMBIVIS connect Runtime. COMBIVIS connect Runtime provides world-wide access using secure, tunneling solutions when remote support or troubleshooting is required.

The C6 ECON was built with the power for processing tasks. On-board RAM provides a good balance between cost and visualisation performance. Designed for economy and built with an Intel chip set, the user can easily use the C6 ECON as a panel PC for both a Human machine interface (HMI) and for motion control.

To maximize up-time, the C6 ECON was designed as a fanless system. Data storage is achieved with hardware options such as Compact Flash (CF), hard drives or newer solid-state drives.Two PCI slots are available for system expansion and adaptation by the machine builder.

The C6 PERFORM is KEB’s top end of product performance. Based on the Intel® Celeron Dual Core and Core® 2 Duo processors, the user can expect high performance visualisation. With the on-board processing power, the C6 PERFORM can easily be the Human Machine Interface AND the machine motion control.

The C6 MONITOR product family is a line of LCD displays for industrial environments which can be used in combination with KEB’s C6 Motion Controllers or third party devices.

When a C6 MONITOR is paired with a C6 box PC, the user can utilize the visualisation runtime on the motion controller, finding a good compromise between material cost and performance. All screens are designed and handled within the box PC.

The C6 MONITOR VESA is a product developed for customers who need a deeper integration between the Human Machine Interface and the Motion Controller.

Remote installations up to 40 meters (130 feet) are possible with the VGA remote kit.

This tool has been created for those who must develop and maintain supervisory control applications, user interfaces and data acquisition solutions.The software can be used in combination with the KEB programming suite COMBIVIS studio 6 to realize complete machine automation solutions, or as an independent tool for programming KEB HMIs.Choosing the right underlying technology is critical; this is why KEB chose to build with XML technology. Graphic Functionality

Products and tools for KEB visualisation solutions were designed to satisfy even the most demanding users in terms of speed and quality graphics. To reach this goal, all of KEB’s solutions are equipped with powerful microprocessors.

Project scalability is a programming must in today’s world and COMBIVIS studio HMI was built with that in mind. The user has the chance to re-use the same project for different sized displays/HMIs. The projects generated by COMBIVIS studio HMI are platform independent, utilizing an “interpreted language” which avoids specific hardware compilation.

To reduce the distance between the standard office activities and To minimize the division between standard office activities and industrial automation, all of the KEB products support a MEDIA function to easily open doc, xls, ppt and pdf files directly from visualisation pages without closing the program.

High quality graphics are easily supported with COMBIVIS studio HMI. Graphical objects are automatically

scaled according to the display size. Standard Vector Graphics makes easy work of bmp, gif, wmf and emf files.

The KEB solution for visualisation and control has been designed with flexibility in mind. With the COMBIVIS studio platform for automation and Human Machine Interface, the user has the chance to import the complete control variable database, reducing development time and combining the control and HMI. Independent variable databases can be created into the HMI project. The variable database is an integral part of the visualisation project, which is why a wizard is available to guide the user on database import/export and implementation.Everything necessary for the project is available within the system. A wide range of system variables can be used in combination with the PLC variable database to make customer operation very efficient, safe and stable.

The user can easily select the best HMI product according to the amount of variables needed. With the KEB products, there are no limits on

imported variables, but on the number of bytes in use (memory limit). Using the project navigator, the user can see the amount of

variables in use and the peak use during project operation. Variables listed as “in use” are all of the variables on the screen being

viewed, data logged and alarm monitored. The programming environment automatically reports where the variables

are used and, after double-clicking, jumps directly to the variable.

In debug mode, a wide range of tools are available for checking variable status, generating statistics and script checking. With the statistics tool, a user can verify the

number of variables used in the project and select the correct hardware that supports the range of variables and the

desired performance. Users are allowed to exceed these limits for two hours

for debugging and testing reasons – at that time, a runtime shutdown and restart is required.

Shared Memory: COMBIVIS studio HMI can export the variable database for use with third party software, greatly simplifying the integration between existing hardware and software.

COMBIVIS studio HMI handles Multi-Language projects easily with string tables. The tables can be exported in CSV format, sent out for external translation, and imported into the project again. HMI multi-language supports all ASCII or Unicode UTF-16 standards.

COMBIVIS studio HMIRecipe, Data logger & Alarms

Recipe function is a machine operation standard. The operator can choose the recipe based on production demands. If some adjustments are needed, the operator can save the new settings in a new recipe. Every recipe receives a unique ID, avoiding accidental saving over existing recipes. There is no software limit to the number of recipes, only the motherboard’s memory is the limiting factor.

Additionally, with the KEB solution, recipes can be structured in a parent-child configuration for easy inheritance of common values. Recipes can be stored manually or directly by catching the historical data from a database; all possible thanks to COMBIVIS studio HMI’s commands and scripts.

The data can be monitored using the dedicated grid object, which includes many

functions such as filters for analysis.The sampling of the variables can be made

based on time, by command or with a trigger. On Win 32/64 operating systems the standard ODBC interface to Microsoft database can be done in local or remote mode. For Win CE, just the local mode is

supported. The list of ODBC types supported by KEB products: MS Access, MS SQL Server

2000, 2005, 2005 Express, 2008, 2008 Express, MySQL 5.1, and Oracle Express.

COMBIVIS studio HMI offers power alarm management. The main task of the runtime is to generate an alarm in relation to a threshold of a variable or of a logical execution. The Alarm Management of COMBIVIS studio HMI is fully configurable and can fit the needs of any application.

Project alarms are grouped into objects, which are grouped into thresholds. The alarm activation can be triggered by a fixed threshold value or by a variable threshold value. Acknowledgement and reset operations on each alarm can be programmed.

In the same style, the data logger is a powerful tool for recording and managing data for further database analysis whether using ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) or IMDB (In Memory DB). Data can be saved as plain text, XML or encrypted.

For devices based on Windows CE, the use of IMDB avoids the conversion of ODCB connections in ADOCE and eliminates the need to install the ADOCE and SQL Server CE components. The result is less system load on the Windows CE device and increased performance.

Specific priority levels can be assigned to each alarm to help the user assess the situation quickly. Alarms can also be grouped into “Areas” for filtering the display of the alarms.

Statistical calculations such as alarm frequency and duration and notification methods such as SMS, Email, Print spooling and Scroll lock are also integrated into COMBIVIS studio HMI.

Create recipe screens manually or use the built in automatic wizard. Each recipe contains a “Variable”, “Description”, “Value”

and “User Unit” and can be encrypted for security.

The Trend tool is both a powerful viewing tool for data recorded by the Data Logger and at the same time a standard format CSV recorder. Recording is active even if the object is not displayed thanks to the “keep in memory” function. Trend is designed to provide maximum flexibility for graphically displaying recorded data.

The KEB product line offers the user a high level of security. Based on the general Users and User Groups properties it is possible to define how to manage the project security. For example, password protection can be activated for editing/modifying the project. Other passwords are possible during machine operation (user login/logout), etc.

Once a User Level is set to a certain value, only users at that level or higher can make changes.

All of the settings are saved in a file which can be saved into the runtime folder or located externally after specifying the network path for client-server projects.

The Trend function of COMBIVIS studio HMI allows the user to view and track selected variables in a graphical format and provides the most effective way to store, print and analyze variables such as temperature, pressure, levels, load cells and chemical measurements.

Curves may be displayed in either: historical, real-time, Time-Based, or X-Y.

Starting the trend function loads the user selected sample and display settings. The data buffer is expandable to 10,000 samples. When the trend function is stopped, the buffer contents are displayed. Behind the scenes, however, the trend function is still sampling and buffering.

The project can be protected by a password required anytime during programming or runtime start. Up to 1024 levels can be set.

Enabling the password management will require password entries even for runtime functionality.

The KEB products are CFR21 Part 11 compliant. The purpose of CFR21 Part 11 per the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is to create a legal equivalence of electronic documents (electronic records and digital signatures) to traditional paper. This is necessary with the increased use of factory automation and management of production processes which could be subject to review and approval by the USA FDA. To be compliant with 21 CRF Part 11, it is necessary to ensure that operator

records are always traceable (electronic signature). With KEB’s COMBIVIS studio HMI it is possible to enable the required electronic signature just within the user properties.

Many pharmaceutical companies intend to take advantage of the benefits arising from the use of electronic records. The footprint of paper documentation that must be stored for years is a motivating factor by itself. Additionally, the use of electronic records can significantly reduce the time of collection and review of required documents prior to the release of the drugs for sale.

With the supplied safety and access restrictions, the electronic records are protected from accidental loss, malicious loss or falsification.

COMBIVIS studio HMI also features an Audit Trail tool for logging a specific variable changes along with the cause of the change to

a database or to a text file. This provides a simple way to monitor specific machine settings over time for changes and the matching

causes. This function is also used for standard 21 CFR Part 11.

A “Child-Project” is a normal COMBIVIS studio HMI project which can operate independently, but is “connected” to the “Parent-Project” for a “Parent-Child” configuration. The parent project has all of its own project resources plus the project resources of the child project.

Expanding this idea, a parent project could have multiple child projects and a child project could have its own child project(s), becoming a parent project itself. The overall result is a project tree cascade, perfect for companies with distributed software development and/or modular machine designs.

KEB products are developed for connectivity. With this in mind, more than one method is possible to reach devices around the world.

With the KEB HMI solutions, a user can reach a device based on Windows CE or Windows 32/64 through a browser that supports Java machine – with or without password protection. Two users can be connected simultaneously. When a browser accesses a device, a remote instance is created which is different than the local display allowing the remote user to freely access any screens without affecting the local user’s screen.

COMBIVIS studio HMI offers a powerful and innovative feature that allows you to meet new challenges in the design of supervisory systems.

The KEB tool allows you to structure a project by decentralizing resources on other projects (children) with a dynamic relationship, providing the possibility to distribute the design.

OPC [OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) for Process Control] is the growing standard that greatly simplifies the communication bus based on different technologies. Quite simply with OPC, a unified interface between programs with different bus technologies for visualisation and automation can be realized.

COMBIVIS studio HMI is based on OPC Client, OPC Client DA and OPC XML DA. As a client, the KEB solution can exchange data with any OPC server that meets standards 1.0A and 2.0.

The distributed architecture of process control increasingly requires advanced solutions to handle multiple cells and workstations, control-only or display-only stations and multiple PCs connected. Connecting these devices over an Ethernet network is the most logical solution. The Ethernet network is now the most widely used physical layer because of its high-performance and low-cost attributes. The networking feature of KEB uses the efficiency of the protocols that are able to run on Ethernet networks to connect COMBIVIS studio HMI stations together in Client/Server modes.

For situations where machine remote access via the web is not allowed, KEB offers the COMBIVIS connect remote tool. COMBIVIS connect works independent of firewalls, creating an industrial VPN (Virtual Private Network) for complete device access. For mobile applications, please contact KEB.

Script and Scheduler

The power of the KEB solution is also measured in the Scripting functionality. For the most demanding customers who are looking for functionality that is not available as standard in our development environment, the powerful VBA (Visual Basic Application) scripting language provides the customized solution. This feature is available in both Windows CE and Windows 32/64 platforms. Additionally, Win 32/64 platforms also support VB.NET development.

A scheduler tool is provided for projects that require commands to be performed at predefined times or at predefined intervals. The scheduler will then be responsible for executing a command or list of commands based on the system time of the PC.

This functionality can drastically reduce the machine development time and provide performance benefits for users. For example, a machine can begin preheating before the

work-force arrives, or a machine can start a maintenance cycle every week.
