Medical School Admissions Committee:

Please forgive my tardy submission of this letter. **** had given this task to me weeks ago and

my office schedule has been most disruptive. **** has my absolute highest recommendation

and should not be at a disadvantage in your consideration of him.

I have known **** for over four years as his academic advisor. He has also been a student in

two of my classes and has sat with me many times to discuss his future plans.

Our initial project together began when **** had returned from a weekend working with a rural

ambulance service and was explaining how difficult it was to fully describe an ECG over the

phone while in the back of an ambulance. **** wanted to find a better way to capture andtransmit data in the ambulance as he stressed it would make a difference in small communities

where transport times approach an hour. Since then, he has worked on finding useful devices for

measuring physiological data in the ambulance and the ability to send this data to the receivinghospital so they could see it before the ambulance arrived.

**** was also a student in two of my classes; Biomedical Instrumentation and BiomedicalSystems Modeling. The goal of these classes is to have the student do a semester-long project on

their own. These classes allow a lot of student initiative and may-well lead to extreme

challenges. **** met these challenges. He formulated and pursued an interesting MRI question

about the performance of implanted chips. He finished the project, had it published in RFIDJournal, and appeared on a radio talk show to discuss it. This is what I want my students to take

away from my classes. The next semester in my second class, **** achieved the same. To this

day I use **** and his work as an example of how to excel in my classes.

In all of the investigations **** did with me he has shown a remarkable skill in moving between

the details of system function and the overall integrated picture. He has the ability to interpretcontributions from a wide variety of disciplines, including life sciences and physical sciences, to

the delivery of health care. He is able to multi-task in the extreme but maintains a congenialstyle and is a pleasure to work with on projects ranging from simple to complex.

**** has made many contributions to my teaching and research activities. In every case his

commitment and quality of effort had no relationship to the payoff, if any, for him. He regularly

provided interpretations of my more difficult topics to others in the class that were struggling. He even provided some ad-hoc lectures. Most importantly for me, he has shown great ethical

awareness and insight throughout our association.

Over the last four years, **** and I have discussed medical school and I have seen him work

very hard toward this goal. I believe the program at KCUMB can give **** the grounding hewants to become an excellent osteopathic physician.

I cannot stress enough how strongly I recommend **** to your school. He is an amazing, caring, and intelligent man who would make an exceptional physician. As an Engineer I am

sensitive to the misapprehension that that technology provides the Physician’s infrastructure.

From observation and study, I believe healing is the central theme. I strongly believe that ****can be and wants to be a great healer. Please contact me at any time if you need greater detail.

Sincerely,
