This three episode program of engaging battlefield tours will bring you right into the action of World War II. Follow GI's to the actual locations of the blood-soaked battlefields of D-Day through Hell's Highway in Hotland to the frozen Ardennes forests of the Battle of the Bulge. Careful re-enactments, special effects, animated maps and often unseen archival footage are artfully woven with the chilling testimony from veterans. Hosted by battle historian Ellwood von Seibold.

American Road To Victory

Sunday, October 2, 9 & 16 at 8:00 pm

In this moving and epic documentary series, Father Robert Barron tells the story of Catholicism around the world - using art, architecture, literature, music and the riches of the catholic tradition. Fr. Barron also examines low Christianity has helped shape the nature of this rich and powerful faith. Travel to some of the most magnif-icent and sacred sites in such places as Jerusalem, Rome, Warsaw, Istanbul, Sinai, Nazareth, and Lourdes and see some of the world's architectural and artistic master-pieces such as The Dome of The Rock, The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, rare views of the Pantheon and more.

Julia Robinson, a pioneer among American women in mathematics, rose to prominence in a field where she was often the only woman. Her work, and the exciting story of the path that led to the solution of Hilbert's tenth problem in 1970 produced an unusual friendship between Russian and American colleagues at the height of the cold war. Robinson's major contribution to the solution of H10 triggers a tour of 20th century mathe-matics that moves from Paris through the U.S. to the Soviet Union and back.

Explore the tensions and contradictions between Native and Italian-American participants in the ongoing Columbus Day parade controversy in Denver, Colorado. This very personal yet public conflict is visualized through hard questions about the freedom of speech, the interpretation of history, and what it means to be an "American."

Discover some of New England's most bone-chilling stories, myths and legends. Interviews with local authors and experts, along with personal accounts, reveal tales of the supernatural, the unexplained and the myste-rious. Visit the infamous Lizzie Borden home in Fall River, MA, the long-abandoned village of Dudleytown in northern Connecticut, the Hoosac Tunnel in the Berkshire Mountains, the New London Ledge Lighthouse and a Union cemetery in Easton, CT—the sites of terrible tragedies, supposed curses and ghostly hauntings.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

Tour the extraordinary locations and landmarks of Mexico in a way no visitor has ever seen the country before, through the eyes of its leader President Felipe Calderon. This is not the Mexico of media headlines or travel brochures, but a fast paced, non-stop adventure through Mexico's iconic spots as well as experiences that aren't found in any guidebook, but are still accessible to travelers. Explore the legendary ruins of lost civilizations, seek out their descendants and find ancient mysteries these sites have hidden for generations.

Part travelogue, part food fantasy and part documentary of self-discovery, this series follows acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and his Korean-born wife Marja as they explore and celebrate Korea's cuisine and culture in the company of chefs, home cooks and their good friend, actress Heather Graham. In each episode, Marja and Jean-Georges step into restaurants and home kitchens to experience real, authentic Korean cooking. The visit every corner of the country, then return to their kitchen in Westchester NY to re-create some of their favorite recipes.

This is the portrait of an artist; a glimpse at a butterfly who wants no association with her life as a caterpillar. Ilona sings, dances, orates, paints, swims and smells the roses, but will not, under any circumstances face the specifics of her painful past. Her downstairs neighbor aspires to unearth some of Ilona's many skeletons in order to learn how one transitions from a place of great sorrow to a place of great joy.

THE ANNALS OF JAZZ WITH RICHARD HADLOCKsunDays at 7 pm

The sound of surprise describes both jazz itself and the enduring premise of "The Annals of Jazz." Since 1959, host Richard Hadlock has been improvising on historical themes and bringing forth worthy performers—from Armstrong to Zorn. Each Sunday, we may find Annals in Europe, Asia, Latin America or Back of Town anywhere.

The Jim Cullum Jazz Band provides the musical backdrop for Vernel Bagneris’ portrayal of Jelly Roll Morton, the dapper ‘suit-man from suit-land’ and his journey to become the self-proclaimed ‘Inventor of Jazz.’

Prohibition was intended to stifle vice – but instead, it nourished clubs run by organized crime and created a hot bed for jazz – where “The parties were bigger…the pace was faster…and the morals were looser” (F. Scott Fitzgerald). Ken Burns joins host Wendell Pierce to bring us the sound of the speakeasies. Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and James P. Johnson are on the menu as Doug Wamble and Vince Giordano join the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Grammy winning a-capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock shines a new light on the work of Odetta, Abbey Lincoln and Nina Simone – and mark their own 30-year anniversary and try something new with a backing trio.

Nat Adderley was a fine trumpet player. But he spent most of his career in the shadow of his older brother, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. Nat ran the band business and wrote many of their hits. When Cannonball died, Nat carried on, not only with the band, but also with the family tradition of educating the next generation.

Hibbler brought many of Duke Ellington's most popular ballads to life during an eight-year stint with the orchestra and earned his place in the jazz arena with a rich, supple baritone. Sightless since birth, he became the first blind performer, even preceding Ray Charles, to achieve real popularity. His southern accent and emotional treatment of songs combined in an idiosyncratic delivery that found success in jazz, R&B and pop markets alike.

Born October 3, 1923, in Chicago, "Vonski is a founder of the Chicago School of jazz tenor saxophonists, cited by the National Endowment for the Arts. "With his individual sound, at once husky and melodic, he makes every song his own. And he does, at the Green Mill with fellow tenor Ed Petersen, New Year's Eve 2010, on JazzSet.

Sheila Jordan's unique singing style lights up Piano Jazz with guest host Jon Weber. Jordan reflects on her early inspirations in Detroit and chasing the great Charlie Parker, who later became a close friend. Along with brilliant pianist and collaborator Steve Kuhn, Jordan sets flame to "Hum Drum Blues and "The Touch of Your Lips.

Pianist Chuck Leavell has played with the shining stars of rock, country, jazz and pop, including Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band and Charles Mingus. Since 1982, he has been keyboardist and general music coordinator for the Rolling Stones. Leavell is also a dedicated environmentalist who maintains a tree farm outside of Macon, GA. He and Marian McPartland discuss their love of the environment and play "Georgia on My Mind.

Guitarist Yotam Silberstein from Tel Aviv made a great first impression at the Kennedy Center in the sold-out Ella! concert (as broadcast on JazzSet). Now he is touring worldwide with pianist Monty Alexander. Yotam's friend Roy Assaf on piano is a graduate of Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead training at the Kennedy Center.
