Candidates on the ballot are – Don Ash (incumbent), Rosalyn Brown (incumbent), Patricia Brune, Ray Daniels (incumbent), Jammie Johnson and Paul Jones. Four at-large positions are open and terms are for four years. Each candidate was given three minutes for an introductory statement. Following the introductions, attendees had the opportunity to visit with each individual candidate to ask questions and learn more about their vision for KCKCC and their motivation for seeking election. KCKCC Hosts Board of Trustees Forum

KCKCC hosted a KCKCC Board of Trustee Candidate Forum Sept. 24. Candidates on theballot are – Don Ash (incumbent), Rosalyn Brown (incumbent), Patricia Brune, RayDaniels (incumbent), Jammie Johnson and Paul Jones. Four at-large positions are openand terms are for four years.

Two Late Goals End Five Game Win Streak

Coffeyville negated a valiant KCKCC comeback with two goals in thefinal 7½ minutes in a home 5-3 women’s soccer win Wednesday.

The loss snapped a 5-game KCKCC winning streak and dropped theLady Blue Devils (4-2) into third place in the Jayhawk Conferencebehind Cowley College (5-1) and Butler County (4-1-1).

The Lady Blue Devils (7-2) will begin second round conference play at Butler Saturday at7 p.m. against the team that handed them their only other loss 3-2 in overtime.

KCKCC took a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the game when sophomore Kayla Deaverscored the first of two goals on a pass from freshman Melissa Siegel. The lead held upuntil the final 5:12 of the half when the Red Ravens got a goal from Ashley Talley andtwo from Louise Atkinson.

The Blue Devils pulled even with two goals in a span of just over a minute midwaythrough the second half. Freshman Connie Hughes got the first goal off a corner kick bySiegel and sophomore Sydney Guerra and Hughes set Deaver up for her second goal with22:09 left in the half.

The comeback felt short when Atkinson completed a ‘hat trick.’ Breaking loose frommidfield, the freshman forward from Middlesborough, England, drilled a shot from 22yards out with 7:29 left in the game and Talley added her second goal on a free kickwith 29 seconds remaining.

Learn Self-Defense with Dr. Mosier

Interested in learning self-defense techniques? Then you will want to make plans toattend a new weekly opportunity KCKCC is offering where you can learn self-defensethrough a class with KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier.

Using a mix of Judo, traditional Aikido and Taekwondo, participants will learn pressurepoints and joint manipulations that anyone can use.

The classes are 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays Sept. 12 to Nov. 14 in Upper Jewell. The coursesare free and all faculty and staff are welcome.

KCKCC Music Prepares for Fall Library Jazz Concert

The Kansas City Kansas Community College Music Departmentis making final preparations for its Fall Jazz Concert.

The concert is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the WestWyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St. in Kansas City, Kan. It isfree and open to the public.

The concert will include performances from the KCKCC student jazz ensembles – TheNew Century Big Band, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Jazz Combos, Funk Band and the college’sthree vocal jazz ensembles.

With four of their final five Jayhawk contests at home, the win putthe Blue Devils in position to move up in the conference standingsstarting next Wednesday when they host Cowley College at 6:30 p.m.

Defending national champion and No. 2 ranked Coffeyville leads theleague at 3-0 followed by Johnson County and Fort Scott, both 4-1;Cowley, 3-1; Highland, 3-2; Cloud County, 2-2 and KCKCC, 2-3.

The Blue Devils (11-7) stretched their winning streak to three in a row at Neosho,taking a see-saw 25-23 win in the opening set and then leading all the way in 25-15, 25-21 closing wins.

Big Finish Vaults KCKCC Golfers to 6th at

Ottawa

A big finish enabled KCKCC to climb into sixth place in the annualOttawa Fall Invitational golf tournament at Eagle Bend inLawrence Tuesday.

Seventh at 333 after the opening round, the Blue Devils chipped17 shots off the opening round for a 316 finish that the was thethird lowest round on the final day. The big finish enabled KCKCC(639) to vault past Tabor (659), which had led the Blue Devils byfour shots at the halfway mark.

Des Moines Area Community College finished just 11 shots over par in the 36-holeevent, a 587 total that was 20 shots in front of runnerup Metropolitan CommunityCollege (607). Five DMACC players finished among the top seven in medalistcompetition. Other teams finishing ahead of KCKCC were Ottawa (635), Rockhurst (638)and Baker (641).

Sophomore Cameron Riley, of Liberal led KCKCC, finishing in a tie for 12th with an 87-88-155 total. Three Blue Devils tied for 24th – Jacob Hall (84-81-165), of Tonganoxie; DylanFreund (85-80-165), of Cheney and Keegan Ellington (82-83-165), of Andover Central.Mark Towey (86-80-166), of Bishop Carroll was another stroke back in a tie for 28th whileKellen Welsh, of Olathe West had the Blue Devils second best round of the final day (89-79-168) in finishing 32nd.

KCKCC returns to action Monday and Tuesday when they’ll compete in the CulverUniversity Invitational that will be played on one of the premier courses in theMidwest, Porta Cima at Sunrise Beach, Mo., at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Blue Devils Launch 17 Shots in 3-1 Win at Coffeyville

KCKCC peppered the Coffeyville goal with 17 shots Wednesday night in a3-1 Jayhawk Conference win on the road.

The win kept the Blue Devils in the thick of the Jayhawk race. Tiedwith Neosho County for third place at 3-2, they trail Johnson County (4-0-1) and Cowley College (3-1-1) heading into the second round ofconference play.

Home Sunday against St. Louis Community College in a noon kickoff, the Blue Devilsresume conference play next Wednesday against Cowley in a battle for third.

Sophomore Marcos Cabral gave KCKCC a 1-0 first half lead by converting a penalty kickwith 37 minutes gone in the opening period. Coffeyville got even with an unassistedgoal five minutes into the second half before KCKCC won the sprint to the finish.

Freshman Lucas Santo took a pass from another frosh, Elijah Bathily, and outraced adefender for the go-ahead goal with 32 minutes left in the second half and freshmanforward Samba Gnokane clinched the win with an unassisted goal at the 72-minutemark.

Coffeyville managed 10 shots against goalkeeper Bosco Pery, who had three saves onfour shots on goal.
