Indian Oil sets up a coke gasification project, Paradip “L&T Valves is a wholly owned subsidiary of L&T and will remain a core business”, said Mr. N.V. Venkatasubramanian, CE & Director, L&T Valves, in a communication sent to all their cus- tomers, vendors and stake holders, dispelling rumours on divestment of the valves business by L&T. The letter reassures that “The management is fully committed to the growth of the company and will continue to provide world-class service to all customers and stakeholders.” Last year, L&T Valves had inducted Mr. Gino Loggia as Head of Interna- tional Sales to strengthen the inter- national marketing network. Gino has over three decades’ experience in international valve marketing, and is based at Sharjah. To quote Mr. Venkat, “Accelerated growth in the interna- tional market is vital to the continued success of L&T Valves. I am sure Gino will spearhead expansion into new geographies and segments and achieve the targeted growth.” L&T Valves has launched several value-added products such as HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System), Ultra High Pressure Valves in C12A and F91 as well as Metal-seated and Top-entry Ball Valves. The com- pany is very excited about the future, and has rolled out many initiatives, some of which are industry-first for valves, to reduce cost, enhance reli- ability and serve customers better. “The new Vision of L&T Valves is to be the most trusted valve company in the world that delivers Valves that Add Value”, concluded Mr. Venkat. Indian Oil, the nation’s biggest oil company, is evaluating set- ting up a INR 20,000-crore coke gasifica- tion project at its Paradip refinery in Odisha to con- vert the lowest- cost fossil fuel into gas that can be used to gener- ate power or make petrochemicals. Indian Oil has been evaluating the project even before the Supreme Court banned the use of petroleum coke and furnace oil in areas around the Indian capital, which is battling alarming levels of air pollution that’s risking human health. A 2 Mt a year coke gasification unit would cost INR 15,000 to 20,000 crore, adding pet coke produced in Paradip, Chennai and Halida refineries which can be used in the new plant to generate syngas. The syngas so generated can be used for power generation or further value addition done to produce chemicals used for making plastics and other products. Indian Oil already has plans to build a petrochemical com- plex adjacent to its recently commissioned 15 Mt a year Paradip refinery. L&T Valves to remain in L&T fold
