SACRED HEART PARISH

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION preparation begins this month. Application forms are available today and next weekend – only from a Priest, and only after Sunday Masses (or 5pm Saturday Vigil Mass). Parents and Carers of children in School Year 3 (or above) need to collect a form today, and return it no later than Sunday week, 17th September. You’ll then receive an invitation to the Parents’ Introductory session, and details of the programme which runs here on Saturday mornings. IF YOU’RE THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A CATHOLIC or want to explore Catholicism; or if you’re already a Catholic, and want to deepen and develop your Faith, the Evangelium programme runs at 7:30pm on Mondays in the Padre Pio room, beginning on Monday 18th September. Speak to one of the Fathers after Mass today, or register your interest as soon as possible, via the Parish Office. CHEWING GUM! Please don’t! Too much gum is being stuck to the seats in church. Ugh! Our Parishioner volunteer cleaners have great difficulty removing it. Remember also the one hour fast before Holy Communion – so no one should be chewing (or drinking) anything in church at any time. Thank you for your good manners and cooperation.

THE ORATORIAN COMMUNITY OF ST PHILIP NERI

If you missed last week’s Newsletter – then you’ve missed the monthly bumper edition with the September Prayer Page and extra items of interest and information, including how to sign-up, for FREE, for the Daily Maxims (Sayings) of our Founder, St Philip Neri. To get a daily delivery to your In Box, just go to: www.sacredartseries.com and click the button for “St Philip”.

Alternatively, for an App of the Daily Maxims (plus Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman’s Novena, Litany, and Prayers to St Philip), just put “St Philip Neri App” into your App search engine to get the FREE App delivered to your computer, phone or device.

THE FATHERS AND BROTHERS OF THE ORATORY invite to a September Summer “Thank-You” Barbecue, all those currently active in our Parish as Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy Team, Administrators, Altar Servers, Bell-ringers, Catechists, Cleaners, Collection Counters, Fellowship Group, Flower Arrangers, Gardeners, Handymen, Musicians, Readers, Schola and Choirs, Sunday Coffee-Makers, Welcomers, Youth Ambassador, etc. If you’ve not received your invitation by Tuesday 5th, please check with the Parish Office.

There will then be meetings, in the following few weeks, for some of these groups to reflect on good practice, and for refresher training, as well as considering inevitable requirements for child protection, health and safety issues, other legal responsibilities, and pastoral concerns.

OUR CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOP

The shop is open every Sunday 11:30am to 12:30pm, after the Solemn Mass.

"The Global History of Catholicism" traces the history of the Church from the earliest times to the present day. It is a large coffee-table sized book, beautifully illustrated, as an excellent present for a friend or loved one. Not for sale: donation only!

To go to our Church Shop, leave the church by the main entrance, down the disabled ramp, and left onto Richmond Hill. Then turn left down the stone steps into the ‘Catholic Institute’ (clearly etched into the arch over the entrance) where the shop is located, at the rear of the small hall.

The event will include a Eucharistic Procession and Holy Half Hour, formation and testimony about serving, and team games. The day begins at 10am in the Discovery Centre, and ends at 3:30pm. Please bring a packed lunch and your Server’s robes”. Brother Andrew, our MC (Master of Ceremonies), will meet our Servers next Saturday at St John’s Cathedral PO1 3HQ.
