Hello KSPS families, We are already halfway through the term and there are a lot of a great events happening at KSPS! Today students, parents and staff participated in the annual school fun run. This event again proved to be very popular with our school community and it was great to see so many parents attend and complete the course made up of many challenging activities! The event of course raises money for our school, while students who have fundraised receive excellent prizes for their efforts. Total fundraising efforts will be announced in the next couple of weeks. I would like to particularly thank Ms Howard for her efforts to coordinate this years Fun Run. Also, student NAPLAN reports were sent home with students (years 3 and 5) last Thursday. As explained previously KSPS has demonstrated positive overall progress in NAPLAN. If you need more clarification regarding your child’s NAPLAN results, please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher. Independent Public School News Thank you to all of those parents who completed the one question and comment survey regarding the idea of Katherine South Primary School achieving IPS status. To date the survey responses are overwhelmingly in favour of KSPS to complete the process of becoming an IPS. I thank parents who completed the survey for reading up on the concept and making an informed decision with their responses. Based on the support the school has received from the school community, KSPS will submit an IPS application. This still does not guarantee the school becoming an IPS, as the final stage of the process is a presentation to an executive board, where the decision based on school data and programs is made. I will keep you well informed of our progress with this exciting journey. School Survey: Parent Perception Just a reminder that Katherine South Primary School invites you to complete a parent feedback survey. A link to the survey can be accessed below and by using the access code provided below. The survey aims to gather feedback from parents on their children’s experience at the school. Surveys are also being conducted with students and staff at the school and the findings will be used to inform the schools priorities and improvement plans. Your opinions are important to us and will help us understand what we are doing well and how we can improve your child’s schooling experience. The survey is confidential and is expected to take about 10 minutes. The results of the survey will be shared with students and parents in Term 4 through the school newsletter and reported in our Annual Report in 2017. As the survey is confidential and anonymous, no results will identify any individuals. I encourage all parents to take this opportunity to complete the survey by Friday the 2nd of September (next week) to provide us with feedback. Survey Link: https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/ dFDFHTsY Access Code: EYHHkeHa and Week Next week is National Literacy and Numeracy Week. KSPS have had our literacy and numeracy team working hard to put together an engaging program for students to promote the importance of literacy and numeracy. We have many high quality activities planned for students and KSPS Book week will also coincide with Literacy and Numeracy week. Mrs Piper will be promoting great book sales in the library and next Wednesday we will be having our book character dress up day where students, staff and parents are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. There will be prizes for the best dressed student, staff and parent! Character day will commence with an assembly to parade our dressed up students, which will be judged by our Town Mayor Fay Miller. I look forward to seeing you there. Questacon Science Circus This week we were fortunate enough to have the Questacon Science team at KSPS to present interesting science experiments and explanations to our students. Our students were very knowledgeable in the presented areas as they have worked on these previously in science class. This was a great experience and promotion of science for our students, especially as it followed Science Week lessons. Have a great week! The staff of Katherine South Primary

School have formed a team to

participate in the Relay for Life.

The relay in on Saturday, 3rd

September and we are currently

seeking donations for our team.

This week in Science, the Year 3/4 students have

been learning about heat energy. They

investigated the expansion and contraction of

water as it heats and cools as well as exploring

how it produces energy. It was also great having

the Questacon Science Circus here, They put on

a fantastic show for our students.

Father’s Day Stall

KSPS will be running a father’s day

stall on the 1st & 2nd of September and

are looking for volunteers to come and

manage the stall.

You may remember that earlier in the

year we held a mother’s day stall with

fantastic results, so we have purchased

items from the same supplier to run

our father’s day stall.

The hours that we need are from

8.30am to 2.30pm for those two days.

Please let Jacqui know if you are able

to help out so she can put a timetable

together.
