Water Rates are on the Rise
Nationwide water rates are on the rise. Those that haven’t gone
into effect are in the proposal state and will likely pass.
City of Baltimore – July 3, 2013
Baltimore officials voted to raise water and sewer rates by 42 percent over three years,
despite residents who pleaded for relief and a city audit that called the increase
"higher than necessary.” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who controls the spending
panel that approved the increase, said she didn't have the "luxury" of voting against it.
As mayor, she said, it's her responsibility to work to prevent breakdowns and repair
water system problems.
Pennsylvania – December 19, 2013
For the second time in four years, local Pennsylvania American Water customers saw
their rates increase. Residential customers in the Main Division, which serves 140,000
customers in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, experienced a 5.58 percent increase
on Jan. 1, 2014. Commercial customers saw a 4.3 percent increase. Rate increases are to
make capital improvements, including upgrades to treatment plants, dams, storage
tanks, wells and pumping stations.
Common Reasons for High Resident
Water Usage
• Resident habits.
• Residents often aren’t aware of leaks or don’t report
them when discovered.
• Water conservation tips aren’t provided to residents
(many residents see no relationship between the amount
of water they use and their cost to live in the property).
• Older fixtures.
• Poor or aging plumbing.
Water Usage Statistics
• More than 45% of water use in the average American home occurs in the
bathroom with 27% being used by toilets. Older toilets can use up to 7
gallons per flush.
• Showering accounts for almost 17% of residential water use indoors.
Replacing an older showerhead can save us to 50% in water usage.
• Bathroom and kitchen sinks account for 16% of the water used in the
average American home. Replacing older faucet aerators can save up to
40% of water used.
Why Flappers Aren’t Enough
Replacing old flappers can help reduce water
usage but using lower cost models found in
retail stores only offers a temporary solution.
Lower cost models wear out quickly and start
to leak resulting in them having to be replaced
and additional expense.
Going Green Without Spending Green
Water Conservation Pay-Out-of-Savings Solution
How it Works:
Step 1
Obtain property survey and a 12 month water usage history.
Step 2
• An accurate evaluation of water conservation potential at no cost to you.
• A plan for rebuilding property components at Minol’s expense.
• A Pay-Out-of-Savings Program that applies your monthly savings in water
and sewer costs against the installation cost until the investment has been
paid off.
Could you benefit from a water
conservation program?
Minol installs high-quality, proprietary equipment with a five year warranty. If
you don’t save, you do not pay.
Does your property qualify?
Property is older than 5 years
Spending more than $250 per unit annually
No billing program in place

No Up Front Costs to Owners
• Qualifying properties can save up to 40% on their water/sewer bills with the installation of our low flow, water saving components.
• The program is paid for from the savings generated until our investment is paid.
• We will generate more net money long-term than our competition.
• We have more than 25 years of success with this program and have saved portfolios hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on their water/sewer cost.
