My name is Kat. I am a graphic designer and illustrator from Kingston.

I have been part of the curation team for the Interesting Times exhibition. It has been an exciting and valuable experience If you have any questions about the show or my work feel free to find me at the private view or contactme via my website: www.katherinesullivan.co.uk

My strengths within design are; illustration, printing, critical and reflective writing as well as using the main Adobe Suite programs (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator). I am inspired by current news, social issues, music posters, record layouts, and book design.

I am interested in creating narratives, illustrating my own and other people’s ideas, thoughtful concepts and designing solutions. I particularly enjoy working with others on larger projects. I also enjoy creating my own zines and visiting book fairs. I am a passionate about design and how if can be used as a positive tool. I would ideally like to work in a multi-disciplinary design studio or publishing studio. I also enjoy working on freelance briefs. I would like to gain more commercial experience and continue to develop my design skills further.

I am currently looking for potential junior positions and work placements. I am also available for freelance work and collaborative projects. If you would like to get in touch please email: [email protected]

Enjoy the exhibition!

Poster design for the art exhibition, Every Picture Tells A Story.

The exhibition features the work of local artists and inmates at HMP The Mount, Bovingdon.

A blind auction of all the exhibited work will be held at Watford Central Library Lecture Hall. Several of my screen prints will be in the exhibition and auction.

All proceeds from sales will go to Storybook Dads. A charity which dedicates itself to maintaining bonds between prisoners and their children to support rehabilitation.

Anthology of a City is a project that depicts a journey through a city in four stages; struggle, questioning, understanding and hope. Throughout the project I explored how the written word translates to a visual image and how book and layout design can alter the flow of a narrative.

It is a collection of written pieces that are both observational and reflective. The intention of Anthology of a City was to create something meaningful that would

resonate with the stages we each face on different journeys, as well as describing the interlinking nature of our decisions.

I explored Anthology of a City by creating a series of books that depicted the story. Each time the revisions were pushed forwards and retold through different layouts and mediums.

Reveal & Discover is a book that explores the process of letterpressing a manifesto. The book shows photographic examples of variations of the manifesto. It is also

a celebration of the individuality of layering and printing within letterpress.

I named the book Reveal & Discover after the process of peeling back the paper after you have printed.

Creating a series of possible book cover designs for One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey.

My final design was entered into the Penguin Design Award 2012. The competition brief enabled me to design an illustrative concept that embodied an author’s story.

During June 2011 I spent two weeks working with The FA graphic design team at Wembley Stadium. One of the larger projects I worked on was designing the wall graphics for the hallways to The FA offices and corporate boxes.

For this project I was put in charge of the photographic direction on each wall as well as working with the team to produce the concepts and final designs.
