The U.G.C sponsored women health awareness and economic

development training programme was jointly organized by Dr. Abdul Kalam

Club and Karuppur Village on 03.03.2016. The function started with prayer in

Karuppur village. The principal Dr. V.S.A.Subramanian presided over the

function. Mrs. R. Ananthavalli, H.O.D of Zoology welcomed the gathering.

Mr. Solai Alagu Somaiya, Chairman, Karuppur village felicitated the function.

Dr.G.V. Gopinath delivered a lecture on “Herbal medicine and Women

Health Care”. He explained in detail about the traditional knowledge on

medicinal plants and traditional practices for treating various health problems.

Further he discussed about cost effective treatment and conservation of

medicinal plants. He created awareness on the usage of local medicinal plants.

Dr. N. Vijay Anand trained the village people on mushroom cultivation.

He explained about the spawn, preparation of mushroom bed, maintenance and

harvesting of mushroom. Further he encouraged them to culture mushroom and

to get nutritious food.

Dr. J. Arockia John Paul trained them to generate income from

vermicompost preparation. He explained about the various steps involved in

vermicompost preparation i.e., selection of earthworms, vermiculture, food for

earthworms, vermibed preparation, maintenance of vermibed and harvesting of

vermicompost.

There was an interaction with the village people with experts. Mrs.

Kanagasudha, Assistant Professor of English proposed vote of thanks. The

programme was really useful to village people.

RALLY AGAINST FEMALE INFANTICIDE

On 04.03.2017. Our Department Staffs and students, Health and Urban

welfare Joint Director, Tiruppattur, Tiruppattur Government Hospital Doctors,

Nurses and other staff members are joint together and form a rally against

female infanticide. This rally started by town chairman Mr. Somasundaram by

raising the flag. This rally start from Thiruthalainathar temple, it will go in to

the town areas like, Gandhi statue, Bus stand, Anna statue, and finally finished

in Government hospital. In this rally all student and staff members have plug

cards in their hand and raise their voice against female infanticide. At last our

staff members Mrs. R. Ananthavalli, Asst. Professor, Dr. P. Sivakunar, Asst.

Professor and Mr. M. Karthigeyan, Asst. Professor delivered a speech against

female infancide. At last the head nurse Mrs. Dhanalakshmi delivered vote of

thanks.

Apart from serving the school children of the Government High

School, T.Pudupatti by taking free coaching classes in English, our

Department has taken a step further to extend its community-oriented

services to benefit the villagers by adopting the village, T.Pudupatti.

Some of the members of the Department of English along with about 70

boys and girls of II and III year B.A English Literature Course of Study

went to T.Pudupatti, on 11.02.16, 12-2-16 and inaugurated the village

adoption programme.

V.S.A.Subramanian principal, presided over the function.

Dr.V.Ramakrishnan H.O.D. of English of our College offered

felicitations. Mr.V.GurudevrajanK.R.Balamurugesh, and P.Subbiah

Senthil Kumar, J.FelciaGnanatheepam, C.Kanagasudha participated in

the function.

The Panchayat Chief Mrs.V.Saraswathi the President of the Parent's

Association Mr.Nehru, and Staff Nurses S.Annapoorani, T.Gayathri, and

S.Anushya were the special invitees.

S.Annapoorani delivered a fine lecture on Cleanliness of our Home.

About 50 local women attend the meeting. The lecture was followed by

an animating interactive session.

It was indeed a hearty function, the people evinced tremendous

enthusiasm.

The students and teachers of chemistry department, Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal

College, Tiruppattur conducted a two days programme in village Korati.

On 26.09.2015, we conduct green initiative programme in which we planted

several type of saplings in Korati village about 50 saplings were planted in the public

park and road side empty places especially in school, around the drinking water pond.

We selected the useful trees like Neem tree, blue berry, banyan tree, Ficus religiosa

tree and Pongamia pinnata. So, the peoples may use the fruits and nuts for their lively

hood. They use the trees as shadows for them and their cattle. In the programme nine

boys and thirty seven girls of our department effectively participated with the social

interest and of their own accord involved in the proliferation of using trees and their

benefits in their day to day life.

The village people and the school teachers appreciated our activity and felt

thankful to us. The students and teachers of chemistry department, Arumugam Pillai

Seethai Ammal College, Tiruppattur conducted a two days programme in the village

Korati. On 27.09.2015, we conduct a programme based on local issues in

which the following concepts were emphasized through pamphlets that were supplied

.

Avoiding non-recyclable plastics that create environmental pollution

Avoiding tobacco products that may create health problems like lungs cancer,

oral cancer

Rain water harvesting,

Essential of soil testing and using the calculated amount of the needed

fertilizers

In the programme nine boys and thirty seven girls of our department

effectively participated with the social cohesion and voluntarily involved in the

propagation of using natural manure and avoidance plastics in their day to day life.

The village people received our students and heard them patiently. They

realize the above points whole heartedly. They appreciated our activity and felt

thankful to us.

Department of Computer Science, Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College,

Tiruppattur, in an endeavour to carry out welfare measures to the people of surrounding

villages, pursue extension activities. Department of Computer Science has conducted an

extension activities at Thiruvudaiyar patti, a village near Tiruppattur on 17th October 2015.

In the programme seventeen boys and thirty one girls of our department effectively

participated with the involvement.

Tree plantation is good for the environment. Everyone knows that trees are the

source of oxygen. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen without which the survival

of living beings is not possible on earth. Trees also provide us with many benefits necessary

for survival, including clean air, filtered water, shade, and food. The planting trees are little

things that students can do. On the request of the vice-president of the village Neem tree

plantation around the temple was carried on by our students.

In the afternoon, students distributed the notice to the village people about the

importance of rain water harvesting. Water is one of the valuable gifts given by nature and

it is very important for the human survival. Today water is used for almost everything and

the usage of water has increased to that it was created the uncertainty about our future.

The rapidly rising population in India is causing many problems. There are very few

resources of water available for the use, hence creating the necessity of saving water. Rain

Water Harvesting as a method of utilizing rain water for domestic and agricultural use is

already widely used throughout the world. Rainwater harvesting is one of the efficient ways

to save water and reuse it. The students are quite interested in doing good things to the

people and they were motivated by the joy and kindness of the village people shown to

them.

Village"

Saplings plantation:

Department of Physics, through its extension activity programme, conducts

tree plantation programme in its adopted village Kottaiyeruppu near Tiruppattur,

Sivagangai district. Variety of programs, which also includes saplings plantations,

was conducted during this extension activity. All the forty six II B.Sc., students were

taken to the Kottaiyeruppu village on 10th

and 11th

October 2015 along with staff

members of Physics department. Students planted various varieties of saplings such

as neem, banyan, peepal, guava etc., in the Govt. school campus situated in

Kottaiyeruppu village. The saplings, which will grow as trees with time, gives

numerous benefits to the human beings such as oxygen for breathing, reduces erosion

of soil and pollutions in waterways and also as shelter to variety of birds. Inculcating

the habit of sapling plantation in the students mind will also help to reduce the effect

of global warming in our universe.

Tips to achieve success in higher secondary examinations

Physics department adopted a village known as Kottaiyeruppu near

Tiruppattur, Sivagangai district. All the forty six II B.Sc., students went to the

Government school Kottaiyeruppu village on 10th

and 11th

October 2015 along with

staff members of Physics department.

Some of our second year undergraduate Physics students gave some valid tips

to the higher secondary first year students on how to achieve success in higher

secondary examinations, with the help of power point. School students interacted

enthusiastically with power point presenters.

On 10.10.2015 – 11.10.2015, we went to Nedumaram village along with 46

students from II B.Sc Mathematics. They encouraged the school children and insisted

them the importance of preserving the nature by planting more trees. The villagers

were asked to gather at the temple to have a meeting with our students. They

shown by the students.Our college students were motivated to plant more trees in the

college premise and to keep the campus clean by collecting plastic waste and covers.

Extension activity provides a link between the College and the Society.

In order to create socially sensitive citizens, the second year students are made

aware of the common extension activities through department specific

extension activities during the Induction Programme at the commencement of

each academic year. Staff members and students of all the departments of

Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College, Tiruppattur adopted villages, in an

endeavor to carry out welfare measures to the people of surrounding villages.

Department of History carried out two day extension activity at

Neelamega perumal temple at Senbagampettai on 10th

and 11th

October, 2015.

In the programme 16 boys 13 girls’ students effectively participated with the

social view and voluntarily involved in cleaning the temple campus.

We also conduct green initiative programme in which we planted

several type of saplings in Senbagampettai Village especially Neelamega

perumal Temple, school and primary health centre. Our second year students

actively participated in the programme. We have planted various plants like

Neem tree, Peopal tree, Sale, gulmohar, Ashoka, blue berry, banyan tree etc.

So, the peoples may use the fruits and nuts for their livelihood.

to their home under village extension programme for our beloved

founder VallalArulmamaniThiru. NTS. Arumugam Pillai Birth

Anniversary . We request 150 seedlings from tamilnadu Forest

department. They Issued 50 neem + 50 Teak + 20 Kontrai + 30

Neermaruthu seedlings. Every year we are following the Slogan like One

Tree for Family [Teak]&One Tree for Society[Neem] .

As a part of the curriculam under the CBCS system followed by the Alagappa

University, II year students of Economics Department undertook Extension Activity

on 10.10.2015 at Ranasingapuram Village, 2kms. away from Tirupathur enroute to

Madurai. “General Sanitation and Hygine” was chosen as the theme for the Extension

Activity, this year.

Mr.M.Chinniah, (Village President,) Mr.N.Kannan (Vice President) Mr.

M.Sethuraman (PTA Secretary) and Mr.M.Sheik (Clerical Staff- Panchayat office)

welcomed the students and staff and congratulated the Department for having chosen

a theme, which should reach all the village people.

The theme was divided into 4 sections viz, (1) Evils of using Plastics (2)

Diseases caused by Mosquitoes (3) Problems created by consuming Liquour and (4)

Importance of using latrines at home

A flex board was prepared consisting of do’s and dont’s of all these matters

and placed in front of the Panchayat office, so that all the village people can see it.

Girl students were divided into two groups and they visited almost all the

houses in the village to explain the contents of the flex, the need to maintain the

sorroundings clean particularly the evils of open defecation for nature’s call.

Boy students were divided into three groups for cleaning activities. They

cleaned the village drinking water tank, the playground, the yard for drying paddy

and the temple premises near Panchayat Union office.

Girl students cleared the area around the Community Hall, Ration shop and

the Elementary school.

All the students cleared the plastic wastes thrown in streets in the village and

cleaned the bushes along the roadside.

Extension Activities thus prove as a source to communicate essential

information to the village people and create awareness among them. This visit to

Ranasingapuram has made the people understand the necessity of keeping the village

clean and at the same time students were able to have an opportunity to serve the

village people.

The Department of commerce organized one day camp at

Akilmanai Street and Poomayee Amman Temple on 18th October 2015.

in order to fulfill the extension activity 4BEA3 subject. The following

activities were undertaken by our II B.Com A & B students (140

Students). Tree plantation, cleaning, creating awareness etc. were

carried out. To create awareness on dengue, Sanitation and Health

Awareness, Awareness for mobile banking, Awareness for Jandhan

Yojana, Awareness for mental health and Stress Management,

Importance for Primary and Health education, Importance of water
