Kartavya -A Corporate Social Responsibility club

We would like to give a brief outlook about our club Kartavya. There are many ways to achieve

societal development. IIM Raipur chose the way which would cater to the upliftment of Raipur as a city

where we are and as a place of opportunities.

Some past achievements:

1. December 2010 Christmas eve celebration withorphans

Encouraged everyone to spend time with orpahs onChristmas eve

Students in our batch have become a regular visitorto orphanage balashram

Games were organized and events took place Children were also served food and the auspicious

day was thus celebrated

Students provide help both in terms of financial andemotional

2. IIM Raipur has a compulsory course on Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, so asto create a framework in the mindset of young leaders to do business while considering

important social and environmental factors.

3. Kartavya team organized Blood Donation Camp in IIM Raipur campus in association withIndian Red Cross Society. Students participated enthusiastically taking the responsibility and

about 50 students donated the blood for good cause.

Doctor and Red Cross members very much appreciated the effort of students and said that it

feels proud watching students are coming forward and taking their social responsibility. Regular donors,

first time donors and girls too felt great satisfaction after donating their blood.

4. Kartavya team Coordinated in organizing Chhattisgarh State Level Paralympics AthleticsChampionship, 2011.

On the 7th

November 2011, Paralympics games: Chhattisgarh Chapter concluded at Pt.

RavishankarShukla University campus, Raipur. In the event, physically impaired students from many of

the districts of Chhattisgarh had participated. Kartavya team coordinated in management and

Distribution of Certificates and prizes for the participants and the winners.The Chief organizer

appreciated the work of IIM Raipur students and admired them for helping in such a noble cause.

5. Shrama-daan at IIM Raipur CampusThe celebrations of the founders day of IIM Raipur started with Shramdaan, a volunteering program by

Kartavya The campus had large tracts of unused land and the need to use it constructively was long felt,

it was on this occasion that the students pledged their time for leveling the ground so that it can be

beautified for future purposes. Members of Kartavya mobilized the resources for the project and

identified the areas that could be worked upon. The students from both batches came in large number

for the cause, what was surely an arduous task.

In true managerial sense teams were created with tasks and objectives defined which involved clearing

out sections, creating layout for passages and marking areas for sports and recreation activities.

Members of Kartavya:Umesh Chopra, Abhas, KirtiSinghal provided the resources for the activities and

also ensured that the efforts turn into a tangible output.

The end of 2 hours of labour by over 80 students resulted in clearing an area measuring over 200 meters

wide and equally long.

6. A Kite Festival was organized on the eve ofMakarSankrant at SOS Children VillageManaCamp, Raipur by Kartavya team. SOS has pioneered a family approach to the long-term

care of orphaned and abandoned childrenA rare practice of Kite Flying was made alive by

the IIM Raipur students along children at SOS village. Apart from this, contests such as Music

Chair, Antakshari and Art-n- Craft ware conducted where kids showcased their talent and

participated enthusiastically.

The winning students were rewarded with the chocolates and other prizes. The students

thanked children and staff for the wonderful experience. For many students it was an

experience when one really feels good from inside and gets a sense of doing something that

matters. All in all the experience was a rewarding one for both the children and the students.

7. Art competition for village students (3rd March 2012)Kartavya organized a drawing and painting competition for students of SejbaharMadhyamik

Government School, Raipur. When students from various nearby villages of Sejbahar reached school

today morning, they did not know that the day is going to be different from normal routine days.

Soon the best of the artists among them assembled in a room where they were first taught the basic

skills of watercolor painting by students of IIM Raipur. The whole program was part of commitment

taken by students of IIM Raipur to bring out small differences in society in and around them

8. A tree for a name Tree plantation by pioneer batch of IIM-Rp (29th March, 2012)An initiative was taken to plant trees and leaves a memorable reminder for the forthcoming batches.

The tree plantation under the banner of Kartavya carved story for a generations to come. It significantly

showed the efforts of students towards the environment. Whenever in the near future, the first batch

visits the campus a proud smile will make them realize their old memories and will create new

memories.

9. Clothes donation campaignin collaboration with GoonjGoonj a NGO dedicated for the making clothes a matter of concern has agreed to collaborate with

Kartavya to make IIM-Rp a nodal center for Chhattisgarh. The collected material would be used as a

motivation for villagers to repair their own roads, dig wells, build bridges, clean their villages etc. under

Cloth for work initiative.

We have already collected 3 big cartons of clothes and other materials. Hope to do more collection and

make our society a better place to live.
