Karol Wojtyła was born in Wadowice on 18 May 1920. His parents were Emilia Kaczorowska and Karol
Wojtyła. He had a brother Edmund and a sister Olga. When he was a child his parents called him „Lolek”.
Olga died when he was 4 years old. Edmund was very important person in his life and when he died,
Karol couldn’t stand this event. He was a very good student. Karol was going to school in Wadowice.
As a young boy, Lolek played football, went skiing and travelled with his father. On 13 April 1929 his mother died, when he was 8 years old. A month later he took
on First SaintCommunion.

Studies and hard work
Between 1938 and 1944 Karol had to study and work
very hard. He and his father left their family house and
emigrated to Cracow, where Karol started his studies.
In that time Karol wrote some poems, played football,
played in theatre and met his friends too.
He worked in guarry because his father fell ill and Karol had to earn some money. On 18
February 1941 his father died. After his death Karol felt he wanted to be a priest
and he went to seminary in Cracow.
On 13 October 1946 he got holy orders from Adam Sapieha.

Bishop and cardinal
On 4 July 1958 Karol Wojtyła was nominated to be a Bishop. His consecration took place in Cathedral in Cracow. He worked and lived in Cracow. In that time
he met and conversed with young people and went to
evangelical travel.
On 30 December 1963 Karol Wojtyła was nominated on
Archbishop of Cracow’s Metropolis.
Four years later Karol Wojtyła was nominated on Cardinal.On 29 June 1976 he received a red birret
from Pope Paul VI.

Archbishop Karol Wojtyła was nominated to Pope on
16 October 1978. His name was John Paul II.
John Paul II was very important person all over the world, especially for Polish. His friends were young people. He believed in them and he
asserted they are the future. John Paul II went on a lot of pilgrimages.
He loved people and they loved him too. Although he wasn’t young man he tripped in mountains
or went skiing. He couldn’t stand inaction.

On 13 May 1981 Turkish terrorist Mahmet Ali Agca shot to Popa on St. Peter’s
Square in Rome. The doctors came to Popa’s help and he recovered.
When John Paul II left the hospital he visited to Ali Agca in the prison.
They spoke a lot there.

On 2 April 2005 at 9.37 p.m. John Paul II died.
Now we have only some photos or films,
but we remember him and never leave behind.
