Historical Context of Problem

• Britain promises two sides land• Fighting quickly breaks out because Britain

removes itself from the problem• The United Nations pass Resolution 181 but

Arabs quickly object because the Israelis would get more land than the Arabs

• After Israel declares itself an independent state, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq invade, but ultimately lose much of the land the UN had set aside for Arabs.

Explanation of Problem

Jews and Muslims both value Palestine because it is the “Holy land”

Because of these high values, neither side wants to give up

War has been getting worse over the years, with Intifada and suicide attacks

Will It Work? Has been tried before, Arabs revolted causing

the plan not to work. Arabs aren't involved anymore.

Each side wouldn't let up the opportunity to have their own state, so of course they'd take it.People who are involved with both sides wouldn't want to pick a side to fight with, so that their losing an ally, and making an enemy.
