She had bold ideas and wanted to use her experiences to lift the immigrant population. She wanted to attract and retain the best teachers and provide equitable access to resources. However, in her first year on the School Board, she faced the challenges of a global pandemic. One year later, she spoke to Kappa again at our annual tea, but this time via Zoom. It had been a very intense year for her with a divided community and a divided country. For every email she received to keep schools open, there was one to close them. With infection rates soaring, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools had just decided to close until mid- January²a tough decision to make, and many parents were upset. She also apprised us that although the health of the teachers is important, Senate Bill 113 stresses the health and safety of children, not teachers, to have the authority to go to remote learning. We were able to hear from our public official just how challenging this year has been. Surprise Guest at Kappa Tea! Awards Committee NC DKG News, Winter 2020 Donna Rudisill, Chair One of the Awards Committee goals for 2021 is to document the professional achievements of members such as National Board Certification, Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and longevity 50+. The committee will collect information using the Professional Awards Survey. Presidents and editors are asked to distribute the link to the survey to all chapter members. Professional Awards Survey: https://bit.ly/NCDKGPAA When completing the Professional Awards Survey, members should reflect upon their entire educational career. Focus on awards you received and not committees or boards you served on or community or church awards you received. Each member should complete the survey by March 1, 2021.

Tech Tip: Charge your phones, computers and other electronics as often as needed. However, once at 100%, remember to remove the charging cord. Leaving the cord attached causes unnecessary strain on the battery and shortens the battery life.
