The Kansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (KS-LSAMP) provides programs for students throughout Kansas with the goal of increasing the success of underrepresented students in STEM. The alliance consists of community colleges within the state of Kansas as well as Kansas State University. K-State School profile Kansas State University was established in 1863 as the state of Kansas’ land-grant college. K-State is home to many multicultural organizations on campus, including HALO*, BSU*, NASA* and AASU*. Forty percent of K-State ‘s student population is made up of first generation students. The university awards $29 million in scholarships each year that are based on academics, activities, service and financial need. Currently, 7 out of 10 students receive financial assistance scholarships, financial aid and more. KS-LSAMP participating colleges at K-State include the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture and the College of Education. K-State KS-LSAMP activities: Research Immersion: Pathways to STEM (RiPS): An eight-week summer program during which students visit K-State to conduct independent research projects with faculty members in their field of interest. Developing Scholars Program (DSP): Allows students to conduct research during the fall and spring semesters. • LSAMP seminars: Features topics related to student academic and professional development. Transfer Student Visit Days: Organized specifically for transfer students to visit K-State. • Scholarship opportunities.
