Parent Teacher Interviews Coming home shortly will be details of our parent teacher interviews which will be held in Week 6, Wednesday 6 March. These interviews are a perfect time for you to share your child’s areas of interest and any special information that will assist your teacher in building positive connections with your child. At Narromine Public School we value our parent teacher interviews as they serve to support stronger links between home and school. Please return your interview nomination form to ensure your place is secure and your teachers are available. Please remember that parents can
arrange to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s learning anytime throughout the year by contacting the Administration Office on 6889 4566. Family Volunteers All family members who are volunteering at our school in 2019, must complete the annual Working with Children Check through our office. This involves presenting 100 points of identification and signing a declaration. This check is a mandatory requirement of the Department of Education and must be completed each year. At Narromine Public School we also request the presentation of a Working With Children Check (volunteers) approval. All volunteers must visit our office upon arrival at our school to sign-in and collect a visitor’s badge. We greatly appreciate the contributions of our family volunteers and I thank our entire community for your assistance in keeping our children happy, safe and healthy. Policy for mobile phones, portable computer games, MP3 players/ipods, cameras and similar devices. Introduction There is a wide range of technology available today including mobile telephones, iphones, ipads, pagers, digital cameras, game systems, portable CD and MP3 players/ipods, personal digital assistants and other similar devices. Narromine Public School has reviewed the value of these devices and examined research regarding mobile phones and student success. The following criteria have been considered in the creation of this policy: • Opportunities for learning, • Patterns of student use, • Parents perceptions that mobile devices improve student safety and security, • Concerns of parents relating to the risk of harm to students through misuse, • Internet capabilities and connectivity of new technology, • Privacy issues for members of the school, and • OUR CORE BUSINESS- student learning. Students attending Narromine Public School are not to bring mobile telephones, portable computer games, MP3 players, ipods, iphones, ipads, cameras or similar devices to school. This policy will support the schools aim to provide a safe, caring environment for all students free from disruption, cyber bullying and invasion of privacy. The school will ensure that parents are able to contact students at any time during the school day to communicate important information. The school will work with parents to ensure children can stay connected in exceptional circumstances. Narromine Public School acknowledges that some parents may wish their child to carry mobile phone when travelling to and from school. Students may do this as long as they do not use the phone during school hours. Phones must be handed in to the school office for safe keeping during the day. IF STUDENTS BRING A DEVICE TO SCHOOL WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE SCHOOL IT WILL BE CONFISCATED. Students will be directed to take the phone to the office where it will be registered.

Life Education
NPS students are lucky enough to have Life Education
visiting our school in Week 6. Life Education works in
partnership with schools to deliver PDHPE outcomes. Research shows that well designed
schools-based health education programs play an important role in helping children develop the
skills needed to make informed decisions. The Life Education Van allows children to explore
creative and collaborative learning in a space that is entirely different from a traditional
classroom. Children are encouraged to participate and learn through engaging education
experiences, which we believe bring out the best in all children. Specially trained educators
present vital health and safety messaging through tactile and multisensory activities. Each
session is designed to intrigue and excite children of all ages, which captures their imagination
and has a lasting impact! Life Education is FREE for our students; NPS covers the costs involved
to ensure that ALL of our children participate in this fantastic educational experience.

Maths Matters
Learning to Count
When children are learning to count, they like to touch, point to and move objects as they say the number aloud – so
encourage them to!
• Have your child count toys, kitchen utensils, items of clothing as they come out of the dryer, collections (such
as stickers, buttons or rocks) and any other items your child shows interest in counting.
• Mix it up! Have your child count a set of objects but start at different places in the set (for example, start
counting in the middle of the set rather than at the beginning). This helps to develop the idea that the counting of
objects can begin with any object in a set and the total will still be the same.
• Sing counting songs and use counting in meaningful ways in games, such as Hide-and-Seek. Counting games,
rhymes and songs exist in every culture. Some counting songs and rhymes help children to count forward and
backward as well.
• Have your child skip count (counting by twos, fives or tens) to count larger groups of items quickly. Use objects
such as blocks, pasta pieces, toothpicks or buttons.
• Develop your child’s awareness of the symbols used to represent numbers by making it a game. Look for
number symbols in your home and neighbourhood such as on the television remote, on the microwave, on the
telephone keypad, in flyers and media and on signs.
• Play a number version of I Spy. For example, “I spy something that has the number five on it,” or “I spy
something in this room that there are three of.”
Ask for your child’s help to count items in your home. “I wonder how many chairs we have around the table? In this
room? In the house?” Count windows, light switches, lamps or beds. You might record “how many” by using a
combination of numbers and pictures.
Family Literacy Challenge
Get a family team together and have a go at the fun challenges to be in the running for a $10 canteen voucher. Make
sure you get your entry in the bright pink box in the foyer at the office. You have to be in it to win it!! To collect the
prize you need to make sure you have one name of a family member per entry. For example: The Jones Family- Andrew
Jones 4W.
Week 4 Vocabulary. Using the word ‘bibliopole’ create as many small words as you can. Bonus points if you write
down the meaning of the word.

PBL News
Our PBL focus over the next two weeks at Narromine Public School is to show
respect by using good manners and listening. Students are encouraged to use their
manners when interacting with others in and out of the school. Some of the
examples that students identified as good manners included saying please and
thank you, playing fairly with others, encouraging others to join in their games as
well as taking turns.
Narromine Public School students understand that by listening to others they are
showing respect. Students are encouraged to follow the 6L’s – Legs, Laps, Lips,
Looking, Listen and Learn. By doing this they are taking responsibility for their own
learning.
Students will be required to achieve 241 points for RED level and 253 for BLUE.
Thank you for your support with your child's education.

School Sport
For Term 1 on Fridays in Weeks 6 - 11, Year 3-6 students will be going to the pool for sport. NPS values the impact
participation in sport has on student learning. NPS has budgeted to support this activity and therefore, pool entry will
be covered by the school. Students need to bring their swimmers, towel, sunscreen and hat. It is expected that
students participate every week as sport is a compulsory component of the curriculum. If for some reason one week
they are unable to participate please send a note to their classroom teacher explaining why they cannot participate.
