Finished Projects for Kaleidoscope Squares

The square shape of the basic pattern limits its use primarily to shapes with right angles. Some simple uses for a completed 36 x 36 intersection square are small ornaments or necklace pendants. A collection of six completed squares could form a cube shaped box.

In a band, you can create bracelets, napkin rings or a bar of stitching along the edge of a purse. A larger collection of Kaleidoscope Squares could cover a pillow or an e-reader sleeve.

I chose two of my favorite pattern sequences along with coordinating wool felt from Weeks Dye Works and had one band finished into a pincushion and the other as a design element on a small zippered bag.

The pin cushion pattern is a variation of my 4-Color Experimental Panel. Below is a photograph of the base layer.

Panel 5 Canvas Preparation:

Step 1: Cut your chosen canvas and tape the raw edges of the canvas with Artist’s Tape.

Step 2: If necessary, draw the desired outlines for the project squares. If you plan to have unstitched canvas as part of your pattern, use basting threads to identify the perimeters so there is no risk of marks showing on blank canvas.

Step 3: Mount the canvas on an appropriate pair of stretcher bars.

Step 4: Review the step by step stitch charts for the 7 Steps.

Step 5: Collect your threads and begin stitching your keepsake from Stitch of the Month 2017!
