ROBERT FROST

Robert Frost's life and his poetry are very unique. His childhood and teen years were pretty depressing. His adulthood was interesting, but gloomy. Even though Robert Frost died, people will always remember him. Robert's poetry is very well known and praised. I will begin this report by explaining Robert Frost's childhood and teen years.

Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California. When Robert was only eleven, his father died. With only eight dollars, he moved to New England with his mother and sisters. In high school, Robert became interested in literature and poetry. His teen years were full of different jobs like, teaching, working in a mill, reporting and editing, and even working as a cobbler. In the year 1891, at the age of 20 he published his first poem entitled, “My Butterfly.”

Finally, Robert went to Dartmouth College and Harvard University. Unfortunately, he never got a degree. In the year 1895, Robert married Eleanor White and started a farm in New Hampshire. “Eleanor and Robert Frost had six children: son Elliot (1896–1904, died of cholera), daughter Lesley Frost Ballantine (1899–1983), son Carol (1902–1940, committed suicide), daughter Irma (1903–1967), daughter Marjorie (1905–1934, died as a result of puerperal fever after childbirth), and daughter Elinor Bettina (died three days after birth in 1907). Only Lesley and Irma outlived their father. Frost's wife, who had heart problems throughout her life, developed breast cancer in 1937, and died of heart failure in 1938.” (http://wikipedia.org/) In 1912, at the age of 38, Robert sold his farm and moved his family to England where he devoted himself to writing. In 1915, he and his family moved back to the U.S. In 1920 he was a very well known poet throughout the states. “About Robert Frost, John F. Kennedy said, ‘Robert has bequeathed his nation a body of imperishable verse from which Americans will forever gain joy

and understanding’” (http://www.poets.org/).

After Robert moved back to the States, he lived and taught in Massachusetts and Vermont for many years.

Robert Frost died in Boston on January 23, 1963 from a heart attack. “At the time of his death, Frost was considered a kind of unofficial poet laureate of the United States of America” (http://www.readprint.com/). “At the time of his death, Oxford University Press said, Frost’s poetry frequently presents pessimistic and menacing undertones, which often are not recognized, or analyzed” (http://www.en.wikipedia.org/). We will all remember Robert Frost for his poetry.

“Stopping By Woods On A Snowing Evening” is one of Robert Frost’s most popular and unique poems. I read this poem and thought it was wonderful. I think it can mean a lot of things depending on how you look at it and interpret it. One poem by Robert Frost really caught my eye. It was “The Road Not Taken”. Here is the first paragraph:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler, long I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

In this paragraph, the rhyming scheme is a, b, a, c, b. The whole poem itself is a metaphor about making choices like a fork in the road.

Another interesting poem by Robert Frost is “Fire and Ice”. It talks about how a guy would rather have the world perish in fire but if it were to perish twice, he knows enough about ice and how it is destructive too. Here is the poem “Fire and Ice,” by Robert Frost.

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desireI hold with those who favor fire. But if I had to perish twice,I think I know enough of hateTo say thay for destruction iceIs also greatAnd would suffice.

The rhyming scheme is a, b, a, a, b, c, b,

c, d. Robert Frost’s poems are great!

Robert Frost’s life was remarkable and his poetry inspires many people. His childhood and teen years were very unfortunate. His adulthood was depressing but he had many great achievements. Even though Robert Frost died he will never be forgotten because his poetry will always live on.

October1

By Robert FrostTranslated by Kai Workman

In the poem “October,” by Robert Frost, Robert does not want fall to end. I think photo demonstrates one reason why. It is the Tuckahoe River in fall.Photo by, Michael Hogan.http://www.hoganphoto.com/uckahoe_river_fall.htm

O hushed October morning mild, The quiet October morning is calm, Thy1 leaves have ripened2 to the Fall4; The leaves have ripened during

Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild, The next day’s breeze, if it is crazy,

Should waste them all. Will blow away all the leaves5.The crows above the forest call; The bird above the trees chirp;Tomorrow they may form and go. The next day, the birds could get together and fly away or migrate6.O hushed October morning mild, The quite October morning is calm,Begin the hours of this day slow. Start this day slow.Make the day seem less brief. Make the days longer7.

Hearts not averse to being beguiled, Hearts do not like being enchanted8,Beguile us in the way you know. Enchant us the way you want to.Release one leaf at the break of day: Let a leaf go of a leaf in the morning. At noon release another leaf; In the afternoon let go of another leaf; One from our trees, one from far away. Take a leaf from a tree here, take

another from somewhere elseRetard the sun with gentle mist; Slow down the sun with mist.Enchant the land with amethyst9. Make the land look magical.Slow, Slow! Slow down October! For grapes sake, if they were all, Do it for the grapes, if they were

everything Whose leaves are burnt with frost10. Their leaves are already dying because of the cold.Whose clustered fruit must else be lost-- Their fruit is dying--For the grapes sake along the wall. Slow October down so that the grapes can grow.

The Lockless Door The Alien By, Robert Frost by, Kai workman

My dog was howling too.6But the knock came again

The wind was howling.5In prayer to the door.

We had a great time.5And raised both hands

My dog was with me,5I tip-toed the floor,

It helped a lot.5I blew out the light,

Of my many thoughts.5With no lock to lock.

To clear my busy mind6And I thought of the door

I decided to walk6But at last came a knock,

It was late at night,5It went many years,

I didn’t say hi.5To alter with age.

He was out of sight.5To hide in the world

No more alien,5I emptied my cage

In the night sky.4So at a knock

There was flashes and lights

6At the door may have been.

In his own U.F.O.6To whoever the knock

He then flew away5I bade a “Come in”

I froze where I was,5Back over the sill

There stood an alien.6And descended outside

My dog and I stared.5I climbed on the sill

A storm was brewing5My window was wide;

Hello, my name is Kai. I live in Santa Cruz, CA and I spend most of my time at soccer fields and skate parks. I’m 12 years old and in 6th grade. My hobbies are playing soccer competitively and with my friends, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I have a brother, a mom, a dad, and some fish.

If I could go anywhere in the world I would like to go to Manchester, England so I could go see my favorite soccer team, Manchester United, play at their home field. My favorite soccer player is Cristiano Ronaldo. He is on Manchester United and an incredible player at that. If my career as a professional soccer player doesn’t involve Manchester United, I would like to play for the Houston Dynamo.

I am really interested in engineering and hope to one day to create the most fuel-efficient cars of the future. I would like to go to Cal Poly for an education in engineering. I am interested in engineering because it would be fun to make something that helps people and you can call it your own.

My favorite skateboarder is Rodney Mullen. He is extremely good at what he does and seems like a nice guy. I hope to be as good as him one day.

I have a great life! I enjoy many things. I have a loving family and that’s what matter. Ciao.
