How do you dance through life?Dance is a part of my daily life whether I’m working or not. I’m a member of an Alvin Ailey dance company in NYC. I love to take classes in all sorts of styles from Ballet to Hip Hop and learn new ways to move my body and re-invent my voice as an artist. What is your biggest dream?My biggest dream is to live a happy life, inspire children to dance, and continuing to travel the world. What’s your biggest fear?My biggest fear is not overcoming life’s obstacles. What beat do you move to?Music drives me. I have to listen to music constantly to keep me on track. It’s kind of like a soundtrack for my life! When I’m not plugged into my headphones, I’ll be singing songs out loud or in my head. How do you dance through life? I’m freestyling my days, I’ve made a profession out of my love for dance and the arts. Right now I’m choreographing and dancing for the recording artist Santigold, producing the dance concert series The Pearl, and dancing Salsa internationally with Griselle Ponce.

What’s your biggest dream?My dream is to be able to be in a position to help those that cannot help themselves and to make a substantial contribution in the entertainment world.

Describe your personality in a sentence.They call me London Brown. Living in the thick of Babylon, where we just need to stay focused, we have to go at, strip down, and find your true self, your passion, your role and your greatest self. Live, love, be free, create and evolve! I’m just a girl from London living in New York creating the woman I want to be and the life I want to live.

How do you dance through life?I always felt London was a place I needed to be born in and to got to school in, my grandfather left Pakistan and Africa to then move to London. I never met him but felt the same, I was always searching for a place to call home. At 18 I had left Europe and was living and supporting myself in Brazil. But at 19 I found myself living and working for a clothing brand in New York! I just had to follow the course my life was taking! Now at 21, I have completed a university degree, live in New York, am in magazines world wide as the face of major ad campaigns, host and interview for online TV channels and am working on a film-documentary inviting to understanding the culture in the Caribbean. I see myself as a citizen of this world. If your soul yearns for something, you must take yourself there, and let yourself grow and evolve into your greatest self.

What is your biggest dream?Hmm ... my biggest dream is that everyone moves to his or her own beat. I want people to see the beauty and treasures that’s all around us. We are so accustomed to letting them school us their way, to live our nine to fives, buy a house, get a mortgage and live for the system ... like sheep. We need to wake up. Maybe ... experience foreign people, foreign places. To leave the familiar. To make it within your means to do so, cut down on things you don’t need, have faith in your dreams, let your soul be touched by the unknown. By a culture, a tribe, a land that you are not familiar with. Let yourself get to know your real ‘self’. What makes a man? What is love? What is God? What makes you happy and at peace? What can you truly offer and what can you learn? We need to discover the answers to these questions. Oh, and another dream and long term goal is to have myself lots of babies and build myself a little tribe!

What’s your biggest fear?I really don’t believe in the concept of ‘fear’. Maybe we need to take that word and idea out of our vocabulary? We should try to trust ourselves. It all happens so we can learn and over-stand things. I try not to fear the unknown or loss. Kind of try to have the peace within. Fear hinders us, I try not to consider it in my life.

What beat do you move to?I definitely move to my own beat. I left London for Brazil at 18; I realized I had to fully support myself financially and in other ways. No one would hold my hand and teach me how to live my dreams or provide the means for me to do so. I had to make it happen, the craziest thing like packing up and moving to Brazil solo, or moving to New York, I knew if I wanted it, I could make it happen. So I did. My mother was a single mother so I never got any help financially from her, she is my biggest blessing, and she really taught me the importance of living within my means. But I wanted to live big. So I made sure my means matched my dreams. You have to put in the work!

Which song best describes your present life?Hmmm I’d say any Zouk tune. It’s a popular genre of music in many African countries such as Cameroon and Cape Verde, but also to communities in Brazil and most importantly in Haiti. Which is where my partner from New York and I are going to next month to start filming a really exciting project! Which I am super grateful for and excited about. When men and women dance to a slow Zouk song it’s magic. It’s just beautiful.

Describe your personality in a sentence. Lover and appreciator of all forms of movement, music, fashion and all things artistic. I live to converse about those things, which I am truly passionate about with anyone willing. Good food, love and art make me absolutely happiest.

How do you dance through life? I constantly work on perfecting the intricate rhythm that is my life. My life is a constant dance, balancing, stretching, and striding through my daily routines in pursuit of long-term goals. I go to school full-time pursuing a career in dance therapy while dancing for a college-based hip-hop dance team and directing a hip hop dance company. Dancing part-time with a professional contemporary dance company while also balancing any gigs that present themselves. What’s your biggest dream?To live for what I love and love the life I live. I aim to be passionate about everything in my life. What’s your biggest fear?I fear that dancing will become less about how it moves and inspires people and more about selfish desires like fame and acceptance. I also dread leading a life that I hate and am uninspired by.
