MY AIMS IN DOING RESEARCH IN JAIMINI CHARA

I must explain that I had been giving excellent predictions throughVimshottari dasha and vargas which late Shehadri mentioned in his booksbut which I popularised on a large scale.

But I had to use Chara dasha and many other dashas of Jaimini out ofsheer necessity and demand. The reasons are:

1. During my service career I was posted in Shillong (1962-63) when Imet many Bengalis who had lost their birth horoscopes when they werefleeing from what then was East Pakistan.

2. Then I had two postings in Calcutta (1967 to 1969 and again from 1975to 1978 when again I met many Bengalis who had lost their birthhoroscopes when they were fleeing from what then was East Pakistan.

3. From 1978 till my retirement in 1990, I met many Punjabis andHaryanvis and Delhites who were either refugees who had lost theirhoroscopes while fleeing from West Pakistan at the time of the partition ofIndia in 1947 or had Arya Samaj background and never got theirhoroscopes prepared. When they felt the need to have astrologicalreadings, some of them came to me and I found out that if I fixed theirlagnas properly on the basis of the scanty information they provided,without fixing the degrees of the lagna, I could give them helpfulpredictions on the basis of Chara dasha and seven, and only seven

karakas.

I also found that being a government officer with ten to five office hours,I was always short of time and I needed accurate Vimshottari dasha aftercorrecting the birth time which is wrong in ninety percent times. I solvedmy problem by heavily relying on Chara dasha and Karakas and doublechecked it with Vimshottari dasha without using vargas in most cases andgave good predictions though some went wrong awfully also.

In those cases where I had accurate horoscopes, I used both dashas andeven some conditional dashas on which I did lot of research but have leftit to my colleagues in the Astrology Faculty of the Bharatiya VidyaBhawan. In these cases I invariably used divisional charts most of which,(leaving some) I have revealed in my books. Let me talk about ECMD.

Keeping this background in the mind follow my discussion of the

horoscopes under ECMCD or Education, Career, Marriage, Children andDeath.

Follow my line of reasoning by preparing charts in which all birthhorososcopes are:1) Marked with karakas.2) Mark the Karakamsha (KL) alongwith the Atmakaraka also in the lagna.

3) Mark the putrakaraka (PK)4) Mark the darakaraka and also the darakaraka navamsha in the birthhoroscope. (DKN) and note the dual use I make of it for marriage andalso death.5) Mark the upapada in the birth horoscope.

Computing the Chara dasha periodsIn calculating the periods I neither add one extra year for exalted planetnor deduct one extra for debilitated period for the following reasons:1) Since there are only twelve rashis, so the maximum dasha period canbe of twelve years only. If Mercury is at two degrees in Kanya,by addingone year to full twelve year period it will become thirteen.2) If Jupiter is at two degrees in Makara, for the Dhanu period the periodwill be zero which appears absurd to me as no rashi can have zero period.Additionally, Dhanu periods are known for rise and fall, sudden events andeven tragedies. If in a horoscope there is a zero year for it, someimportant events cannot be seen at all is my experience.3) In timing events in horoscopes which have exalted and debilitatedplanets as in the case of Queen Elizabeth II and Chandrasekhar, theformer prime minister of India, I will show how following my method,timing of events becomes accurate.

I and my students have followed this method and have given manysuccessful predictions with timing becoming accurate. The illustrativehoroscopes being used here are of those famous persons who life eventsare historically documented and the horoscopes used have correct lagnasthough the degrees of the lagna may be debatable. But in using Charadasha that is not a handicap.

NOTE: I use the Karakamsha lagna in the birth horoscope for many goodreasons which are sound. I will explain it. If all karakas are used in

navamsha it is called Swamsha. It is the tradition followed in many partsof northern India and gives excellent results. See a sutra for example:

Shukrendo Shukradrishe rasavadip 49, meaning that if Venus is inKarakamsha lagna and is aspected by Moon, he will become a dealer inmedicines etc. (Suresh Ch, Mishra Jaimini Sutram of Ranjan Publications,1989 edition in Hindi)

Anyone in the world with Moon and Venus in the same degrees asAtmakaraka and Amatyakaraka in the birth horoscope will also have themin navamsha and they all will become dealers in medicines. If you judge itfrom Karakamsha in lagna it may give a different meaning and lot offlexibility is available for interpretation. It is why traditionally, northIndian astrologers put Karakamsha in the birth horoscope and judge theresults.

If you blend the results from Karakamsha in lagna and Karakamsha inSwamsha (meaning all karakas put in navamsha as south Indianastrologers do) you get better results.

Special PointFinally, no writer on Jaimini has talked of Darakaraka as both giver ofspouse and also death. Death should ofcourse be predicted after findingout the span of life which is a tough task and should be approachedthrough many techniques combined in a harmonious scheme andtechnique.

MY SEVEN STEP APPROACH

Originally written for Journal of Astrology. This article and relatedmaterial has been syndicated to other websites.

Lost in wilderness, shrouded in the ambiguity of aphorism and interpreted in arbitraryfashion by astrologers with genuine to fraudulent claims, Jaimini astrology will continue tobaffle astrologers for many more decades.

What then should be the approach of an astrologer in genuine search of working andworkable Jaimini methods tormented me, as it must have many astrologers. I thereforeevolved a seven step approach.

First stepEach astrologer wanting to make Jaimini astrology his predictive tool mustfirst read whatever books are available, most of them in translations.

My Findings:KarakasThe first problem was to decide when to use seven karakas and wheneight. It was not a ticklish problem at all as if all planets are calculatedupto seconds, there never was a clash between two planets contesting forthe position of a karaka. Try it and see if I am right. I solved this problemeasily.

Meaning of Karakas:My Original ResearchI studied whatever was available on Jaimini and collected a huge libraryand found that no one, even the most respected Krishna Mishra orNeelakantha even hinted at how these Karakas were to be used. It waslike someone telling me that helived in Bombay but never gave hisaddress. It shocked me totally and sometimes I felt that either it washidden or these great and famous commentators never understood theiruses. Then, B.Suryanarain Rao, B.V.Raman, P.S.Sastry or Iranganti

Rancharya who wrote articles in the Astrological Magazine never evenpointed out or produced any research to show how these karakas were tobe used. I took a bold decision to do it myself, a task which had neverbeen done before by anyone.

Rule of harmonyThen as in law, so in astrology follow the principle of harmony in theinterpretation of karakas. I reasoned out myself and came with aworkable method which has turned to be a very effective tool forprediction. I have shown it through various examples for twenty six yearsnow in 2010 and will show many more in this article.

AtmakarakaIn Parashara you have the first house and its lord for self so that shouldbe the Atmakaraka a planet with the highest degrees.

In Parashara you have the third house and its lord for siblings etc so that

should be the Bhatrikaraka. So that should be a planet with the thirdhighest degrees.

In Parashara you have the fourth house and its lord for mother andhome etc so that should be the Matrikaraka. So that should be a planetwith the fourth highest degrees.

In Parashara you have the fifth house for education, children, mantraetc. So the fifth karaka must be Putrakaraka. So that should be a planetwith the fifth highest degrees.

In Parashara you have the sixth house and its lord for enemies, diseasesetc and so it should be the Gnathikaraka.So that should be a planet withthe sixth highest degrees.

In Parashara you have the seventh house and its lord for spouse etc andso it should be the Darakaka. So that should be a planet with the lowest

What about Amatyakaraka then ? What about the second karaka then ?

It is Amatyakaraka which means a courtier or an important man in thecourt of a king in the days of monarchy. So in our days it should mean animportant man and by extension your own importance. Is it a hint aboutcareer I wondered and proceeded with this assumption with my researchand got amazing results as I will show.

What about a karaka for father? The problem is easily solved if you useBhatrikaraka and Sun for father and Bhatrikaraka and Mars for siblings ashas been as shown in some books on Jaimini. Here we must remember

that sthirakarakas must always be considered in Jaimini astrology.

AbbreviationsThe abbreviations I used then were AK, AmK, BK, MK.PK.GK. and DK. Ithen combined sthirakakas like Sun for father, Moon for mother etc.

PadasFor padas I decided not to use any exception and got excellent resultswhich I will show partially in this article or a later article.

Second stepWhatever the translators say must never be accepted blindly. Rememberthat most of the translators are Sanskrit scholars but not distinguishedastrologers or successful predictors. We are grateful to them for makingavailable many manuscripts but we must become cautious when it comesto their what I call shloka mauling and sutra chopping boast.

My FindingManoj Pathak a teacher of astrology in the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, NewDelhi, decided to do a research on Parasharas Chakra dasha and foundthat out of eight different translations of available Parashara texts, noastrologer knew how to compute it. The translation they gave never gaveany accurate results. He has solved the problem amazingly now. He andhis students have been giving brilliant readings based on Chakra dasha.Soon they are going to come out with an amazing book.

Through experience you will know when and how to ignore thesetranslators or even commentators (though there is none really who can becalled a commentator of these books) and then getting enmeshed in aconfusion, seek a way out of it with lot of struggle if you persist with yourresearch.

Third stepTest whatever has been understood on the well known events of your ownlife on your chart and on those of your family members or friends whoselife events are known to you with correct events and correct dates.

My FindingThe results I got were amazing and brilliant and it is the experience of mystudents also.

Fourth stepNow try it on the well known horoscopes of famous people and test thevalidity of your understanding on the horoscopes of yours and of yourrelation and friends which you have done earlier.

My FindingIt is what I am going to show in this article.

Fifth stepDo not bring in fanciful theories which are not mentioned in anytranslation of Jaimini like the CHAR KARAKA SUBSTITUTION which is afanciful, if also fraudulent, theory being circulated now.

My FindingReject totally what is not given either in Jaimini sutras or in the Jaiminiportion in Parashara text otherwise you will walk into a cave where youwill suffer astrological suffocation.

Sixth stepWherever your testing necessitates it, modify with reasons the translationof Jaimini texts remembering that most of these translators were and areonly Sanskrit scholars and not sucessful predictors because of which theymay have misinterpreted or even wrongly translated some shlokas andsutras.

My FindingIt is a risk you take but not rashly or with fraudulent claim that you havelearnt it from some secret tradition which can be dubious and fraudulent.Claiming to be belonging to a secret tradition is marketing.

You must prove it and replicate it over a period of many years as I havedone before publishing my research. Your aim must be to contributesomething for understanding the changed and changing times throughastrology and reject or modify whatever has agricultural and pastoralconnotation when these books of astrology were written.

Seventh stepWithout losing respect for Krishna Mishra or Neelakantha, the famouscommentators on Jaimini sutras, keep in mind that their ownunderstanding or interpretation may be incomplete or even wrong.

My FindingI will refer to it later and not in this article.

After laying the seven step approach let me explain how I proceeded ininterpreting Jaimini astrology within my own limitations. I took a bolddecision to do it myself, a task which had never been done before byanyone.

Just as you begin to grow mature you will learn that you have to avoiddiscussing astrology with an astro-neophyte as much as the dogmaticpandit who argues that his interpretation of a shloka from a Jyotisha bookor even a sutra alone is correct. Challenge him, if you are in a mood toargue with him, to show the correctness of his interpretation on tenhoroscopes and he will run away but become your enemy for the rest ofyour life. On such occasions remember God and Oliver Goldsmith both.Every absurdity has a champion to defend it. OliverGoldsmith.Remember Oliver Goldsmith againIf you were to make littlefishes talk, they would talk like whales.

Simhastha BrihaspatiDo not accept any interpretation given blindly as for example in MuhurthaSamhitas, Simhastha Brihaspati or Jupiters transit in Simha is forbiddenfor marriages in some muhurta books. Late Sri S.K.Kelkar did some workon it, being a suave non-traditionalist, found that marriages done in thisperiod were just like any other marriages and that the promise in thebirth horoscope alone showed correct results. I got done a larger researchby asking seven women astrologers, who had collected one hundred andsixty seven horoscopes, to produce a largeresearch, the biggest on thesubject till date and they were amused to find that there was no terror inSimhastha Brihaspati marriages. Some of the marriages which were threedecades old were very happy ones.

The need to do this research arose because this is the only muhurtha Ihave seen which is not universal but relates only to the territory betweenGodavari and Ganga. One astrologer argued with me and said thatall gods(remember that it is said that Hindus have 33 crore gods) go away to

south India and do not remain in the north at all. I, in turn asked him ifthe railway minister of India spent sleepless nights during this periodwhen Jupiter was in Simha.

The panchanga (almanac) makes ignore these researches and continue tofrighten people with the fictitious results of marriages performed whenJupiter is in Simha which occurs every twelve years.

When these untested dogmas become source of fright, astrology ceases tobe the super science it is and, becomes a superstition. It is so withshlokas and sutras also. Do not accept them blindly as we do not knowwhat are genuine and what are interpolated.

Make your own bold research hoping that someday some wise astrologerswill see the utility of this for the modern age. Tradition should berespected not as a dogma but with malleable intelligence. The aim shouldbe to bring in liberal elitism without violence to scientific and acceptableinterpretation of rich astrological tradition of ours given by wise pundits

like Madhura Krishnamurthy Sastri and men of his caliber.

Working sincerely and most scientifically only one can see theextraordinary beauty of astrology of Hindus. Let me give on instancewhich shows timing without embarrassing the Indian Police Serviceofficer, in service, whose wifes horoscope is being discussed.

A police officer Ajay Kashyap (IPS) posted in Delhi was selected for aprestigious job in UNO in 2010 as I had predicted, but he was not beingrelieved by the authorities in Delhi including the Lt. Governor because ofthe Commonwealth Games in October 2010. His wife, an astrology studentin the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, asked me and I told her that according toher horoscope, she would be out of India by 17 August 2010, CWG or noCWG. I had to devote some time to calculate it which is a tedious task.

PranamThere was considerable uncertainty about my husband's movement fromIndia on account of his posting abroad. This dilemma was posed to Shri KN Rao our guru, a few weeks ago. Later when students asked me, I explained that it is through the Charadasha which I had taught to them and which jyotisha softwares calculatewrongly. Let me give instances from the horoscope of Indira Gandhi howchara dasha shows some events in her life to the nearest date. In thecase of Mrs. Archana, see the chart and the DK in Mithuna and it isMithuna dasha running which is favourable for her husband. When sheasked the question it was the antardasha of Kanya from where the DK isin the tenth house of elevation about which I had given prediction to herhusband earlier last year (2009)

Now the pratyantara dasha running was of Karka from where DK is in thetwelfth, Mithuna. This pratyantara dasha was ending on 17 August 20101.It was easy to predict that by 17 August 2010 her husband would be out ofIndia. She acknowledge it through email and told me that the objectionsof the police commissioner Delhi, Mr. Dadhwal and, of the Lt.Governor,were overruled by the Home Ministry which she had not expected andwhen the orders came, she booked tickets for New York for 17 August.

This is the beauty of Jaimini and the Chara Dasha I have researched on,not caring for obscurantist pandits who, knowing English, reel off theirsuperstitions in the internet forums and also in astrological journals. Leftto themselves, they cannot prove the validity of their own interpretationon one hundred horoscopes at least.

Some of them will come out with fanciful theories by saying thatShastyamsha, (D 60) is used to see past birth and some other vargas likeD 40 from what you inherit from your mother and D 45 for what you

inherit from your father with the fullest confidence that MaharshiParashara will not come down to the earth and complain about beingmaimed. These are fanciful theories which can never find any supportfrom available texts of Parashara and cannot be proven on hundreds ofhoroscopes.

(Those who use Jhora will observe that the Cancer PD ends on 18th Augwhereas the event happened on 17th Aug matching with the ending ofCancer PD as calculated by K N Rao. )

I have lot of feedback from people to whom I have given consultationwhich I cannot disclose and betray confidences. It is better to say thatyou have an astrological observation and request other astrologers to testit on horoscopes in their possession to help astrology progress with theastrologer remaining in the background.

I tell students not to accept blindly what is given in the translations ofBrihat Parashara etc. not to be overwhelmed by the pandit who rattles offlot of gibberish in Sanskrit but knows no astrology of practical use to us inthe day to day life. I am quoting these letters, among hundreds I have, only to show thatunless you have healthy respect, with healthier skepticism, for thepandits, you cannot break new ground and rescue astrology from itsprimitive state in which it still thrives.

When students bring instances of shocking, primitive meaning of someshlokas from jyotisha books, I tell them to observe these in manyhoroscopes and see if it is fitting into the pattern of life as it is in twentyfirst century. Otherwise you will go back to primitive astrology becausepublishers all over the world know how to sell the rubbish they publish.And there are writers who pay for publishing their books which suits manypublishers. But you will not easily come across writers who can synthesize these andput them in proper perspective for modern life. Ask yourself, as a veryintelligent woman student of ours, asked me after reading a latest versionof Phaldeepika and reading the results of the seventh house and planetsplaced there, if all this was to be accepted as gospel truth. For somewomen the seventh house is entire horoscope.

Sun in 7H:He suffers mental tension, physical pain and distress from the wife.

Moon in 7H:Moon in the 7H gives ample conjugal comforts and pleasure. The wife isvery charming with a chiseled physique.

Mercury in 7H:7th Mercury would tend to bestow a wise and pretty wife to the native.

Jupiter in 7H:Jupiter in 7H bestows a beautiful and sagacious wife.

3) Indira Gandhi and her ruined married inspite of Moon being in theseventh house.

4) Devegowda 18 May 1933, 10.09 Hassan Karnataka with Karka Lagnaand Saturn in the seventh house.

5) Bush Sr. 12 June 1924, 10.43 Milton, MA USA with Simha lagna andMars and Ketu in the seventh house.

I can reel off instances after instances to show why astrology which hadbeen rescued from the hands of primitive half literate pandits who hadkept alive the tradition of jyotisha somehow (we are grateful to them)was modernized by B. Suryanana Rao, Dr. B.V.Raman and some of theircontemporaries to the extent it was possible. These days with veryintelligent, well educated and argumentative students who do not haverespect for all teachers, the challenge of modernizing astrology is beingmet more satisfactorily than ever before. This is to be seen and

experienced to be believed.

That is what Ambica meant when she wrote I thought I should thank youfor grooming me to handle the position I do today. Your research patternis so well thought out that it can beat even the best of institutes.

I have produced it here because when I was defending the case ofastrology in the Supreme Court on 3 Nov 2003, I was aware of the viciousarguments against astrology and its primitive interpretations taking us toprimitive age and leading to saffronization which was the pet communistargument. While other astrologers who could have joined as petitioners-in-person and argue in English chickened out, I was left alone, the onlyastrologer, to fight the battle against Indias top lawyer, Shanti Bhushan.Because my astrology is modern not primitive, interpretative in approach,non dogmatic in conclusions and methodical in vast replication, I won thebattle. That is what our students do and shine brilliantly, some of themappear to be super brilliant and are the future greats of Hindu astrology.

Some of the crooked ones will become Kaal Sarpa Yogis also.

Same is the case with the ayanamsha. We use, Lahiris. If someayanamsha lunatics come out with different values, let them battle it outwith modern astronomer to prove their point and not run away from thebattle. Since I rely on Jaiminis karakas, I have found that Lahiri alonegives them correctly for correct results. Other ayanamshas sometimesconvert the Atmakaraka into Darakaraka and the whole sequence andranking of karakas is turned upside down. One very sattwick swami fromsouth India, Tamilian or Keralite, by the name Sadashiva Giri had met memany years ago and asked me to see his ayanamsha. I told him that wewere not interested in any astronomical discussion or even SuryaSiddhanta. He said that his ayanamsha was based on divine inspiration(Deva Dutta) and that publishers in Delhi and the late R. Santhanam hadinsulted him.

An American woman, Deborrah Ress said that she would finance thepublication of his book if I wrote the preface. I did it neither accepting his

ayanamsha nor rejecting. I asked readers to judge it themselves as I didnot want to insult a swami who was not boastful at all like ayanamshalunatics I have met often and so many times.

I have fought this battle for fifty years and now the new generation ofeducated astrologer will do it better than what I have.

Let me quote from the research.

Jupiter in Simha successful marriagesIn the end, it must repeated that researches must be produced inastrology with evidences to rescue it from fraudulent, foolish and frivolousastrologers. It must also be remembered that in the case of theRamayana and the Mahabharata and other Puranas, the BhandarkarInstitute of Pune has done researches to remove interpolations fromvarious versions. In the case of astrology such work has not been done.Different publishers have published different versions of many of these

books. For instance, one can see different versions of the BrihatParashara Shastra and see some conflicting versions and contradictions inthem. It is not difficult to assume that in the Muhurtha books similarinterpolations may have taken place. The prejudice attached to Simhastha

Jupiter and marriages may be an interpolation. At any rate, through ourastrological research we see no reason to accept it as an astrologicallyvalid objection to marriages. K.N. Rao 10 September 2003

Let me here also refer to my argument in the Supreme Court as apetitioner in person in 1990 and 1991 when the reservation issue wasbeing discussed. I had shown to the court that in both Backward ClassesCommission reports of Kaka Kalelkar 1955 and of B.P.Mandal 1978,astrologers were classified as backwards! The jocular argument I had putwas that in Mandal list of Andhra Pradeshs backward classes, Vaidiki andNiyogi were mentioned (such was the abysmal quality of his investigation)and I am a Niyogi Brahmin of Andhra. And known as an astrologer also, Icould claim to be backward doubly. Why do astrologers want to remainbackward now when we can rescue it from narrow and irrationalinterpretation and make it a subject higher than any being taught in theuniversities, more scientific and more helpful and bafflingly brilliant?

I have encountered both types of pandits: one who knows some astrologybut has a ferocious pride of pedigree and obnoxious family hauteur andthe other immensely likeable scholars with winning humility like SriMadhura Krishna Sastri who earn our eternal gratitude for their enormousscholarship and lack of pride and acrimony.

Jaimini Astrology - 7 Step Method III

It has been customary at the end of an astrological debate, actually aquarrel (these days about Jaimini dashas) -- astrologers come awayclaiming victory. Starting with a Sanskrit shloka or sutra, a fatuousrhetorical war path, they end up abusing each other. I have seen it sooften, astrologers using very offensive language and uttering arrantnonsense. They spout ill-informed academic poison. They cannotovercome their obsessions. Involved in such quarrels, you find yourselfbetween a precipitous rock and a deep sea.

My argument offends them. I asked them how they can claim to knowJaimini astrology without using Karakas. I have said that it is original

research, not available anywhere else except in my two deeplyresearched books on Chara Dasha and Mandook Dasha which I tested andrested before writing them. To say that you know and do Jaiminiastrology without using Karakas is like saying that you do Parashariwithout using seven grahas (leav ing out Rahu and Ketu).

Jaimini astrology is epic in scale, mythic in symbolism and operatesthrough subtlest hints which are sub-atomic. Imagination is needed tounravel aphorisms. Jaimini astrology is the greatest branch of astrologyever found anywhere in the world, dazzling in its vast range but bafflinglyrecondite. One lifetime is not sufficient to grasp it. Even with what littleone grasps, one begins to give a false impression of being a seer. Insteadof quarreling let us arrive at a consensus.

I have repeatedly told students of astrology to follow some steps whendealing with doubtful horoscopes. Once convinced of their correctness,they should not to bother for the criticism and comment of most of theastrologers. It is, for example, preposterous to show the horoscope of

Atal Behari Vajpai with Tula lagna for different years, 1924 or 1925 andprove a point or a research. Read the biography of Atalji and see whathoroscope is given there!! It is Vrischika lagna and 1924 birth which Ialone have used among astrologers, as far as I know, and I will show it ina later article .!!!

Follow the steps given here.

First step:When in doubt about the correctness of a horoscope use CharaDasha as I do, as I alone do. Verify some indisputable events of ahoroscope like education, marriage, children, career etc. if such detailsare available. Examine it again through the most popular Vimshottaridasha and, if you arrive at the correct degrees of the lagna, a strenuousexercise, use the relevant vargas. Applicable conditional dasha should beapplied. It will be shown in the cases of Sachin Tendulkar and BenazirBhutto in this article.

Step two:Before accepting a horoscope, collect as many events of amans life as you can and verify them soundly. Choose bio-facts as I callit, always for verification. It must be done consistently applying the sameparameters to horoscopes after horoscopes.

Step three:Give some short term predictions to them or, about them,and get or collect a feedback to be convinced that you are working withcorrect or corrected horoscopes. If majority of your predictions havecome out correct, do not get yourself influenced by the claim ofastrologers that they have a different horoscope which alone is correct.The horoscope of Atal Behari Vajpai is a good example to remember allyour life.

Step four:Always ignoreponga pandits who claim to know the meaningof Sanskritshloka or sutra and, knowing English, dash off their opinions,these days, on different fora of the internet or even some astrological

journals.

Step five:If inspite of all these you discover that you have committed anerror in getting or working on a wrong horoscope or, if your verificationwas faulty, admit it honestly. Otherwise, astrology will suffer and you willget dubbed as dishonest. Let astrologers be not liars. To date, I haveadmitted in writing my failed predictions giving reasons.

Step six:If in doing a research on horoscopes, you come across abrilliant predictive clue, test it on as many horoscope as you have in yourpossession. The sample size for testing must be at least twenty five. Donot stop here but give predictions only on this basis for some time to testthe soundness of your discovery. Then use it openly in your predictionsand, if you like, in your writings.

Step seven: When you read articles of some writers you begin to pickand choose easily. Some writers are very honest and will not use doubtfulhoroscopes and justify with vehement dishonesty. Do not waste your timereading them anymore.

Step eight: Similarly, you will see some writers using good techniquessoundly and some, not. Follow only the techniques of honest writers. Youwill realize soon that in the world of astrology there are many maliciousfellows, betraying their low upbringing at the earliest. Contributingsomething positive is not their primary aim.

Step nine: Always use, when you are doing the analysis of a horoscope,more than one dasha though while writing, you may show and use onedasha only for brevity and clarity.

Step ten:Re-check what you have written. This has been always a faultwith many including me because while wr iting thoughts that race in themind lead the writer into unconscious errors which he fails to correct. This

keeps happening is my honest opinion. The racing mind moving fasterthan the eye has made me a very incompetent proof reader.

Step eleven:In doing a research on any dasha, unless some indisputablefacts are verified stage by stage, the results shown in stray incidents likebecoming a prime minister, have no meaning. Show the birth of siblings,the nature of education, some events relating to parents, career patternswith its good and disastrous landmarks and, of course, marriage andchildren with proper timing. Most of the researches show one or twoevents only which cannot validate any dasha with conviction andconfidence. That is the line I have strictly followed in my books andarticles, with examples. Every book on lesser known and used dashas orlesser used dasha which has come out of the pen of BVB teachers of Delhifollows this line strictly.

Step twelveWhat to hide and what to reveal is a tough task for even an experiencedwriter of astrology books. There are certain subtle factors which point tofatality and sexual crimes. Neither in predicting nor in writing should theybe revealed is a view I share with many astrologers of earlier days ofhonest astrology. It now is a forgotten dream amidst so manyunscrupulous astrologers.

In writing over a period (from the prediction about the death of IndiraGandhi to Benazir Bhutto, from 1984 to 2007), I have restrained fromeven talking about it, what I always regard as the clinching factor, even inmy conversations with astrologers. In the case of Rajiv Gandhi, I was sosure of his violent end but the amended Terrorist Act his governmentpassed, choked many astrologers from even expressing honest fears. Inmaking predictions about their coming end I used the more obviousplanetary combinations which I have taught but never referred to thesubtle and secret factors.

Having said that let me deal with the horoscopes of some importantpersons which have been always a source of hot debate and acrimoniouscontroversy.

I will use in this article, the horoscopes of:

1) Sachin Tendulkar

2) Benazir Bhutto.

and others.

But first the controversy relating to the Karakamsha must be dealt with.

Karakamsha

Let me first clarify why I use Karakamsha in the birth lagna as the northIndian astrologers do, and not in the navamsha.

I saw books on Jaimini by south Indian writers who put the Karakamsha(KL) in the navamsha while the north Indian astrologers prepared a fullchart with KL in the center in the place of the lagna and put other planetsas they are in the birth horoscopes.

I tested it on horoscopes with me and found that if I used the south Indianmethod, it caused more confusion which I have explained in my book onMandook Dasha (which I do differ ently than other writers, with very goodresults) tested on many horoscopes, including mine and got results. I willexplain in later.

First let me explain why putting KL in the lagna appears logical to me.

Results of KarakamshaB. Suryanarain Raos translation of Jaimini Sutras is a mere translation ofthe sutraswithout any illustration. It was one the earliest books toinfluence me along with some books in Hindi from Varanasi. It does notsolve our problem. Yet some results as given in the book are reproducedhere first to show the confusion that gets created as a result of atranslation without illustration. Read my comments in brackets which Ihave added now.

If any of the planets is in the Karakamsha the results will be:

Sun: Will be fond of public service and will be fond of political activities.(Amitabh Bachchan and all people born on 14 Oct 2010 should begovernment servants or fond of political activities.)

Moon and Venus: If the full Moon and Venus are in Karakamsha the

person will command great wealth and all comforts.

Mars: Will prepare medical mixtures and will bear arms. Will live byprofessions involving preparations in or near fire. (GLNanda would, a stopgap prime minister twice has this. All people born on 19 Oct 2010 willbear arms or in professions involving fire. A friend of mine has thiscombination in his horoscope and he worked in a bank. He does not

prepare medical mixtures but buys medicines only.)

Mercury: Will become a merchant, weaver or manufacturer of clotheswill be clever in preparing curios, will be well versed in social and politicalmatters. (PVNarasimha Rao. should have been a trader not a primeminister.)

Jupiter: Will be well versed in Vedic or religious rituals, will havereligious wisdom, will know the rules of sacrificial functions and will havegood knowledge in Vedanta.

Venus: Will become a great official, will become political personage, willbe fond of many women and will retain vitality and sexual passion till theage of one hundred years. (Allpeople born in the world on 1 September2010 will have this combination.)

Saturn: Will be famous in his line of work.

Someone showed me an article of a writer who, I was told, a very keenresearcher in Jaimini. He wrote that Saturn in Karakamsha makes onefamous in ones own line. That is a well know Jaimini aphorism. Jaiminisays Saturn in Karakamsha or in 2nd house from Karakamsha Lagna

indicates the person will be known for his work.

Let me give an example.

Cast the horoscope of people anywhere in the world of 8 Sept 2009according to the Lahiri ayanamsha and see Saturn at twenty nine degreesand 51degrees.All the people born in the world will be known for theirwork as they will become famous in their line. prasiddha karmajivi. Whywere people born at the same time as Indira Gandhi not famous? Thereason is that a prediction cannot be based on an isolated factor.

The north Indian style of KarakamshaPut the Karakamsha in Dhanu and retain the planets of 8 Sept 2009 as inthe birth lagna and you get a different meaning which appeals tome.There cannot be a group of people born all over the world who willbecome famous only because Saturn will be Atmakaraka and thereforewill be in Karakamsha of all the people in the world born on 8 Sept 2009at any time and in any lagna. The sheer absurdity of taking Karakamshalagna so mechanically and herding all the people born with Saturn as

Atmakaraka must be noticed and discussed by Jaimini scholars.

Notes1. It should be clear that if the entire Navamsha of karakas are to be usedfor Karakamsha then:

(a)Anyone who has Sun as the Atmakaraka will invariably have Sun in theKarakamsha also will become public servant and will be in politicalactivities. If such is the case we can look at all horoscopes in which Sunis the Atmakaraka and draw a fast conclusion that such persons will bepublic servants and will be interested in political activities.

(b)Similarly those who have Venus as Atmakaraka will have great sexualvirility till the age of one hundred years.

(c)All those who have the Saturn as the Atmakaraka will be famous in

their own line of work.

Can we jump to such conclusions merely on the basis of the Atmakarakaand its navamsha position in the navamsha chart? It is obvious that it is afallacious approach.

Some astrologers use the Karakamsha in the birth horoscope and call itKarakamsha and use the entire navamsha of all Jaimini Karakas and call itSwamsha which appeals to reason. In an article later I will give scannedcopies of Karakamsha prepared by north Indian astrologers.

There is no hint given in any book available in the market to show howthe Karakamsha and Swamsha are distinguishable and which one is to beused when for predictive purposes.

The debate among astrologers about the correct birth data or thesuppression of the correct birth details of celebrities and historical figureswill be unending. Let me quote what I wrote in the preface to LEARNSUCCESSFUL PREDICTIVE TECHNIQUES OF HINDU ASTROLOGY.

"Birth-Time: Hearsay Evidence We in India have three historicalinstances of famous men being discussed in astrological articles, including

what they call their research. The late D.P. Misra, a well-known politicianof Madhya Pradesh, wrote in his book, "Living an Era", that Indiassuper Bismark, Sardar Vallabh Patel, did not know his birth day, year andtime. When asked by astrologers, he decided, being an Iron Man, knownfor decisiveness, that he was born on October 30, of some year in thenineteenth century and at a particular time. Using that data, astrologershave discussed his horoscope too often and too nauseatingly.

A more interesting case is that of the former Indian President,Dr.S.Radhakrishnan, who according to a biography written by his son, S.Gopal, was born on a different day of September (in the 4th week of themonth, perhaps) one year before the year used by astrologers and, theGovernment of India celebrates the Teachers Day on September 5every year. India's astrological journals and books contain the horoscopeof Dr. Radhakrishnan explaining Saraswati Yoga. But his own son hascalled his father an illegitimate child with an entirely different date andyear of birth.

More amusing is the gimmick of India celebrating the birth anniversary ofthe former Indian Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on October 2 everyyear when according to his well-known family horoscope it should be 9October. "

Birth-Time: Chaitanya Mahaprabhu The worst mistake committedby Dr. Raman in Notable Horoscopes is in his discussion of the horoscopeof Chaitanya Mahaprabhu ignoring all traditional evidence.

(b)Dr. Raman takes the time as 8-56 p.m. which gives him Tula lagna.

(c)I have used the time given to me by some Bengali friends which givesme 4-42-10 p.m. giving me Simha Lagna, though there is a difference of

48 minutes shown by N. C. Lahiri, who, as he had once told me, that henot being an astrologer, could never correct a horoscope.

Birth Lagna and Dogma: PrabhupadThere is in this book a long portrait of Prabhupad A.C. BhaktivedantaSwami which took considerable scrutiny because while the famous anddistinguished astrologer, Gopesh Kumar Ojha, gave him Makar lagna, anAmerican astrologer insisted that it had to be Dhanu lagna, giving not anyastrological logic but, on the basis of a pure dogma. It is pernicious not tofollow astrological basics. First of all, there must be sound approachthrough the verification of life events. See for instance the resultsattributed to Jupiter in the 8th house.

"Gurur-mrityago tasya VaikunthaGatham"

Which means that after death, those who have Jupiter in the 8th house, goto the highest world.

What blindfolded the American astrologer was a prejudice. He sawconcentration of five planets in the 8th house of Rajneesh (Osho) andconcluded, not on the basis of any astrological logic, "the person iswalking on the path to hell" . This is not astrology but dogma, not ascientific approach and is not in harmony with the Mahaprabhus spirit(Taror-api-sahishnu more tolerant than the tree.)

Lal Bahadur Shastri

Very early in my astrological career I came across a horoscope of LalBahadur Shastri with Moon in Kanya and Dhanu lagna with the date ofbirth not given by as many as three famous and established astrologers ofIndia, Sri Suryanarain Vyas, Sri Hardeo Trivedi and Dr.B.V.Raman.

I cast the horoscope and found that the date of birth was October 9 not

2nd on which his birthday is celebrated. I asked Dr.Raman and alsoHardeoji about it and they said that out of their respect for Shastriji theydecided not to give the date of birth but made successful prediction abouthis short term as prime minister and tragic death.

Then in course of time an aunt of my younger brothers wife marriedsomeone in the family of Lal Bahadur Shastri and I got the MemorialVolume in which the family horoscope given was the same as used by thethree astrologers referred to above with Dhanu lagna and Moon in Kanya.

Tendulkar

In early nineties of the last century a television anchor from Bombay whospecialized in sports used to meet me in Delhi and promised that he wouldget the birth details of both Tendulkar and Kambli. In his next visit he toldme that he would not be able to get it as the families of both Tendulkarand Kambli were advised not to give their birth details to anyone. Thismay have led to the creation of 24 April as the birthday of SachinTendulkar.

Then when I got the birth details from Karveji and his daughter Pinky, Igave it to Sri Manoj Pathak who has produced an article which is theredisplayed on the website.

I told many that the birth details of Virendra Sehwag were different inearlier year with his month of birth shown as May or April not 20 Octoberof 1978. But then an article in an issue of the Journal of Astrology, later ina book, made it difficult for the wrong date to continue since it was wellknown that I had got the details from the sister in law of the elder sisterof Virendra Sehwag. She is high ranking officer in the Indian railways andknows astrology. Suppression of correct birth details was not possible inthis case. There has been no such compulsion in the case of Tendulkar.

Astrologers have always quarreled without realizing that they are fooledby politicians and celebrities. They keep burning their fingers and neverlearn any lesson. But the age old Hindu or even Moghul emperors

tradition of giving wrong birth data will continue for some reasons.
