A prevention program is designed to help keep juvenile from

committing additional acts. Having a program that is focused on

improving future behavior than looking at the past behavior will help

the juvenile succeed. In order to have any successful prevention

program there has to be two main components to work. These two

components consist of a supervisory and a treatment component. With

this new program you will be using a therapeutic approach.

By using a therapeutic approach it can help change the juveniles

behavior by focusing on a more constructive development

within themselves. By using a combination of techniques such

as mentoring, counseling both individual and family, along with

cognitive-behavior therapy it can possibly reduce recidivism.

The program will be divided into the risk level of the juvenile

in need. The staff will consist of counselors, former juvenile

delinquents, social workers and volunteers. The program will be

designed based on each individual needs.

program in steps from counseling to education to living in

their community. The program will hold daily meeting

similar to Alcoholic Anonymous where the juvenile can

attend to maybe express their inner thoughts. Each of the

offenders will have the opportunity to speak if they choose

to all of the programs will be under supervisor and

    guidance of proper staffing.

The Big Brother/Big Sister of America was a program

designed to help the children through adult monitoring.

There are two parts to the programs. The first is

community mentoring where members of the community

will spend time one-on-one with the child spending time

together doing things such as movies, baseball games etc.

The community mentoring will help with kids who have

one or both parents not around and also guide them.

The other part of the BBSA is the school based part where

time is spent in the environment of the child's school. This

type of environment can be very helpful in helping the

juvenile to succeed in school by helping with reading and

homework along with after school programs. With the

BBBS in play to help at risk kids it has been proven

through research that these kids have improved in school,

not using drugs or alcohol and have a better relationship

    with family and friends. (www.bbbs.org)

Elan school was designed to help change the life of the

juvenile from being in trouble to having a trouble free life.

Elan was started in Main in 1971. The program helps

juveniles with previous delinquencies and substance abuse.

The approximate stay for the juvenile is about 27 months in

that time the program teaches self responsibility and hard

physical work. Intense peer pressure is also a way to help

the juvenile deal with the pressure on the outside.
