What WWAD IsOur Mission Walk with a Doc encourages healthy physical activity in people of all ages, in order to reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. Our Goal We will have WWAD in every community so everyone has the opportunity to Walk With a Doc on a weekly or even daily basis. If McDonald’s can do it, so can we. And we must!

• A local physician leads a weekly walk.

• Health workers greet walkers and offer healthy snacks.

• Walkers can get their blood pressure checked.

• Physician delivers a BRIEF talk on a timely health issue.

• Walkers can chat with physician before, during, and after their walk.

• EVERYONE is a volunteer.

• There is NEVER any fee to participate.

What WWAD Looks Like

Just One Hour a Week! What a weekly WWAD program can do:

• Dramatically alter walkers’ lives by replacing sedentary behavior with healthy, active habits.

• A 3 to 5 minute informational talk can educate participants on exercise, nutrition, and health.

• Immediately impact your community in a positive-life changing way.

Improving Public HealthWalking is well proven to help you:• Lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the

"bad" cholesterol);• Raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the

"good" cholesterol);!• Lower your blood pressure;• Manage your weight;• Improve your mood;• Stay strong and fit.

Wait! There’s More!• Whether you’re a man or a women, walking

improves cardiovascular health dramatically.

• Walking reduces risk of Alzheimer’s.

• Walking reduces osteoporosis.

• Walking reduces the risk of multiple forms of cancer.

• Walking improves physical fitness.

• Walking can reduce the risk of heart attack by the same amount as more vigorous exercise like jogging.

Why Doctors Are Interested • WWAD physicians see continual health

gains in regular walkers.

• WWAD gives them the excuse to get themselves and their families outside.

• They (and their hospitals) become identified as community leaders.

• Physicians get national exposure--with like-minded doctors throughout the country.

• The doctors come voluntarily to us, and/or we help recruit them for areas that want to start a walk.

It’s Really Pretty Easy

• Pick a location that’s right for you and your group. Country roads, shopping malls, parks, wherever it’s convenient for you and the doctor.

• A one-mile loop is ideal.

• We’ll help spread the word about your walk.
