Tom Cruise, multi million pound mega star of the big screen never seems to age. From Top Gun, right through to Mission Impossible, the boyish good looks have remained the same. This year, Mr Cruise hits the landmark age of 50, but in true Peter Pan style, he still looks as young as ever and, just to prove he is not ready for the scrap heap just yet, he has been doing his own stunts, which involve jumping out of the World’s Tallest building, for his latest film Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.4by Justin Seet

There are a few Hollywood stars that like to boast about how they do their own stunts, but Tom Cruise certainly ‘walks the walk’ as he walks right out the window of the tallest building in the world!

Cruise has done many stunts in his career, but they all pale in comparison to the ones he did for “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.” The 49-year-old actor climbed up and also ran down the mirrored glass exterior of the Burj Khalifa, the 181-story, 2,723-foot-tall skyscraper in Dubai.

But how much of the stuntwork did Cruise actually do himself?

According to producer Bryan Burk, every frame you see in the movie is really Tom Cruise. At a recent preview of scenes from the film, Burk said that Cruise did have a stunt double on set, but his job was only to test out the safety rigging. When the cameras were rolling, it was all Cruise, which was good, because Burk said the stunt double was actually afraid of heights!

FEATURE

Cruise has won more film awards than most ‘stars’ could ever dream of, but even though he is now closing in on the big 5 0, the awards based upon his looks are mounting up too. In 1990, 1991 and 1997, People magazine rated him among the 50 most beautiful people in the world. In 1995, Empire magazine ranked him among the 100 sexiest stars in film history. Two years later, it ranked him among the top 5 film stars of all time. In 2002 and 2003, he was rated by Premiere among the top 20 in its annual Power 100 list.

In 2006, Premiere ranked Cruise as Hollywood’s most powerful actor, as Cruise came in at number 13 on the magazine’s 2006 Power List, being the highest ranked actor. The same year, Forbes magazine ranked him as the world’s most powerful celebrity.

October 10, 2006 was declared “Tom Cruise Day” in Japan; the Japan Memorial Day Association said that he was awarded with a special day because he has made more trips to Japan than any other Hollywood star. n
