Dear Readers,Parenting is rewarding and amazing. But, we all know that it also can be hard and exhausting! One issue I am faced with ona daily basis is consistency and follow through with my children. I have learned that being consistent with my children buildstrust and security. I also have learned that the simple act of following through sets limits and creates boundaries for a childduring every stage of their childhood. When parents are consistent in their response and follow through in their behavior, children learn to count on that parentand actually feel more secure in their environment. If you tell your children you will pick them up at a specific time, be there. If you tell your kids they can't have candy, do not change your mind. If you promise a reward for good behavior, give it. Ifyou "ground" your teenager, follow through. Try to act, and NOT REACT to your kids behaviors. Give yourself time toconsider what you want to say and do. By being consistent in your actions and behaving in a manner your children canmodel, children learn the importance of self-respect and recognize the value of trust. Remember that establishing trust andcreating limits with your child is an essential element of effective parenting.Your Friend, Cami

HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILDOVERCOME ANXIETY
1. Help your child relax. A child will feel anxiety whenthey're stressed. Explore different options for helping your childrelax, then allow them to enjoy these relaxing games or hobbies. The activity you choose may be different for every child, ordifferent depending on the day.
2. Find a distraction. When your child feels anxious all of asudden, do something to distract them from the situation athand. If you're out in public and they start to panic, perhaps youcan engage them in a conversation about something they like ordistract them with a toy or something of interest in yoursurroundings. If you're at home, try a fun game.
3. Avoid pushing your children. You might find that you'repushing your child to behave a certain way without ever realizingit. It's more common than you think! Be positive around yourchild and free them from unnecessary pressure.
Remember, if you need to make a change, do it gradually so itisn't shocking to the child.
4. Schedule "worry time." This activity works well for adultanxieties too. Schedule a time during the day that is designated"worry time," where your child can worry and vent. Your job is tolisten to your child and help them sort out their feelings. Someparents keep a "worry book" and dedicate a time to it everynight or every week, encouraging their child to draw or write inthe book to clear the air. This technique is also helpful because, when a child is worrying, you can tell them that they're allowed to worry but they justneed to wait for the designated time. They may not even feelworried anymore when the time comes.
5. Build confidence. Help your child build their confidence. When you're feeling confident, it's difficult to feel anxious orscared. If your child begins to feel confident instead of anxious, they'll begin to have a positive attitude about themselves. Thiswill also help them when they're faced with fearful situationsagain in the future.
HERE ARE SOME STRATEGIES YOU CAN USE TO HELP YOUR CHILD OVERCOME THEIR ANXIETIES:

AT WHAT AGE SHOULDMY CHILD SEE AN ORTHODONTIST?The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child first visit an
orthodontist by age 7 or earlier if a problem is detected by parents, the family dentist,
or the child's physician. Many orthodontic problems are easier to correct if detected at
an early age before jaw growth has slowed. Early treatment can prevent future
problems and maximize future tooth and jaw development.
AM I TOO OLD FOR BRACES?Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age. With treatment options that include
ceramic braces and crystal clear Invisalign, everyone can have a beautiful and healthy
smile. Twenty to twenty five percent of orthodontic patients today are adults.
DOES MY DENTAL INSURANCE PAY FORORTHODONTICS?If you have dental insurance, we will gladly determine the coverage you have under your
plan. Orthodontic insurance is usually a separate rider to dental insurance, and not all
plans include this coverage. Just give us your policy information and we will be happy to
file your claims for you.
