SPANSPAN“The Edge Walk” is a new touristattraction at the CN Tower inToronto Canada, at one time theworld’s tallest free-standing struc-ture, The tower's operators plan tolet people walk hands-free aroundthe outside of the 116-storey build-ing with no guard-rail and just a 5ft(1.5m) wide see-through ledgeunderneath.- held in place by only acable!. It adds a whole new meaningto the idea of “Life on the Edge”most of us won’t entertain!

But come Easter and Pentecost we are called to the edge if we areto respond to what God has done and is doing through these greatevents- the power of the Resurrection and Pentecost, where Godcomes to invite us to share His very nature. But to receive, meanswe need to come to the edge by letting go of the desire to cling on toour lives, the way we believe, forget about ideas of self preservation, throw caution to the wind (the Holy Spirit), and let God have His waywith us.

The “Edge Walk” may only be for budding dare-devils, but the chal-lenge of Easter and Pentecost to “Come to the Edge,” is for every-one who wants to share in all that God is and does, not just for thethrill but for life!

Global Day of Prayer – Sunday12th JuneCounty Hall 5 to 9.00pmAnd speaking of towers, Cork’s very own County Hall, (once thetallest building in Ireland!) is the venue for a gathering on Sunday12th June the Feast of Pentecost. It’s a local response to the GlobalDay of Prayer which for 10 years has been gathering momentum. Itis an opportunity for Christians from all traditions to unite in prayer –an act itself which may bring us to the edge – we may not be alwayscomfortable in praying with others from different backgrounds. Thatis why these gatherings are so important, for apart from the prayerand its wonderful eternal significance, they allow us to enter intowhat God is doing in fellow believers.

The prayer event runs from 5.to 9.00pm – on the very top floor ofCounty Hall with a wonderful vista of Cork– but for those who mayhave been tempted, there is no “Edge Walk”!

Come to the Edge – Welcome The Queen of the UnitedKingdom and the President of the USA.It has been an amazing week for Ireland with the visits of the Headsof State of the United Kingdom and the USA. In particular QueenElizabeth’s four days has been described as a watershed in thehistory of Anglo/Irish relations. And this is more than just hype – hersymbolic presence was matched with words of sorrow for the pastwhich resonated across the land. Many republicans acknowledgedas much. For many of us we could not have envisaged the scenes atthe height of The Troubles.

And again it comes back to someone “coming to the edge”: peoplehigh up in power taking a risk and making the visit happen, and thenfor the Queen to be party to it – monarch or not it would have beenperfectly understandable for an 85 year old to remain at home withher Corgis and Dorgis! (A cross between a corgi and dachshund.)

Come to the Edge – Connect 12In a sense we have come “to the edge” in respect of Connect 12

the outreach from 11th to 19th February 2012, because over thesummer we should be clearer about how much we can physically dooutside of our usual buildings. Too often we are talking to only our-selves, which maybe enriching and encourage us at home and atwork. But too much what we have to share in Christ is hidden andinaccessible to so many. So we are “on the edge” of significant deci-sions.

In the meantime there are somethings you can do NOW!

1. Think Festival, Fun, Faith and Food– this is a very special week – lookforward now!2. Book the following dates and makea holiday of them (if the boss will allow ofcourse!)

“Refresh”Saturday 22nd and 23rd October 2011...aweekend to encourage you where you

are in your journey and for us to be prepared for Connect 12 byour mission leaders Bishop Ken and Helen Clarke. There will besessions on Saturday morning, Saturday evening, and Sundaymorning, culminating in our annual Harvest Festival service inInniscarra.

CONNECT 12 Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th February - it is half-term, let’s make this a festive family time.

3. Consider how you might be involved with Connect 12. Can yougive 12 hours of your time coming up to and during the week? So farwe are looking for coffee drinkers, story tellers, bouncers andenvelope stuffers and of course a whole lot more! Not to mentionevangelists, intercessors, and caterers.

4. Join a “C Group” - during November. Connect Groups – Cgroups for short or simply: C for Coffee, C of Chat or C for those whoaren’t Cool on groups! i.e.; don’t normally like (or feel they usuallydon’t have time for!) groups. So the programme will be light but with aclear purpose to prepare us for Connect 12. We’ll be looking forhosts and facilitators who will be trained – nothing too heavy!

5. Use that Prayer Book Mark given out around Easter –yes, itwasn’t just a book mark!

Come to the Edge – Intergenerational ChurchFor all of the richness of our Church family, we can still be stuck withstereo types, e.g. young people will only respond positively to contem-porary worship and are not ready for some of the more adult minis-tries. Older generations are slowing down and wedded to the past. The reality is that both statements can be completely turned on theirhead! So on Sunday 5th June at the United Celebration we are focusing on

what it means to proactively be an intergenerational Church. Theservice itself will celebrate the Growing Leader Youth Work Coursewhich was mentored by adult Church members – intergenerationalchurch at its best. It’s this kind of scenario we want to build on anddevelop with your ideas and support. That’s why we will be holding alight lunch after the United Celebration to help us to think throughthese issues – it will conclude no later than 2.00pm.

Launch of Worship SurveyWe will also be launching a Worship Survey. There will be roughly 10simple questions to guide us as to how our worship is helping peopleof all ages to engage in meeting with the living God. As well as helpingus to hear what you experience it will also give us an insight intowhether you feel you can invite others to Worship services, and if sowhich ones. PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR THIS SURVEY which can becompleted on line and in paper format.

PeopleWe extend our sympathy and promise of prayerful support to theCoulter family on the untimely death of Nigel. It’s not been an easytime for the Gould/Devoy family with minor accidents, toddler illness &Katie’s post-natal depression, and we pray for them. We also pray forRobson, Emma & Aaron Bolster Rodrigues as they prepare to returnto Brazil at the end of June—and for Sylvia & Richard. (E & R say’Thanks!’ to all who donated clothing for them to take with them!)
